Zeke looked smug, trembling with excitement at the thought that Jack would die by his hands.
Just as he was about to give the order to fire, a deep voice interrupted, "Wait a minute!" It was Officer Adam.
He walked up to Jack, his demeanor arrogant. "Are you General Steele?"
Jack didn't answer.
Drake said coldly, "How dare you! You're just an officer of South State. Why don't you salute the general!"
"With this?" Officer Adam laughed, taking out two documents from his pocket.
They were Jack's ID card and a certificate with gilded letters. Inside the certificate, the words "General Steele" gleamed in dazzling golden light, so bright no one dared to look directly at them.
But the next moment, Officer Adam threw the certificate on the ground and stepped on it.
Drake and the Phoenix soldiers immediately showed expressions of anger! This certificate was the highest honor of the Federation! Now, this guy dared to step on it; he deserved to die!
"Hmph, how dare a little upstart pretend to be General Steele? Do you know this is a capital offense?!" Officer Adam reprimanded coldly.
He took a step forward, exuding a terrifying aura. He stared fixedly at Officer Adam and said, "Do you realize that desecrating the personal documents of General Steele is akin to blaspheming the faith of millions of soldiers on the northern border and tarnishing General Steele's merits? This is a capital offense!"
In an instant, Officer Adam was stunned by Drake's imposing presence. As a mere superintendent in South State, how could he compare to Drake, a general of Skyblade?
What's more, the northern border defense line was extremely long, encompassing as many as ten states. When citizens of those states saw Jack, they treated him with respect and humility. For Officer Adam to dare step on General Steele's certificate, he was insulting the honor of all the warriors of the northern border!
"What... what do you want to do?!" Officer Adam stammered, frightened. "I'm Victor Adam, an officer of South State. How dare you be so arrogant? You're asking for death! Arrest these terrorists who are impersonating General Steele and his soldiers from the northern border for interrogation!"
"How dare you!" Drake stepped forward, standing in front of Jack. The female generals of the Phoenix were ready for a final bloody battle. The atmosphere was tense!
Jack stepped forward steadily, raised his hand, and pushed down the gun held by one of the female generals. He spoke slowly, "The guns of soldiers from the northern border should never be aimed at our own people."
"Yes, General." The female general quickly stood straight and saluted.
Zachary, Jerry, and the others sneered as they watched. 'You're still pretending at a time like this. Do you really think you're a general?'
"I'll go back with you. Tell them to put their guns down," Jack said lightly, walking up to Officer Adam.
Seeing that Jack didn't choose to fight, Victor relaxed and scoffed, "I thought you were tough!" He waved his hand, and the policemen immediately confiscated the weapons and firearms of the Phoenix soldiers.
Zeke felt a pang of regret. He had wanted to kill Jack and his men outright. He hadn't expected this guy to escape! However, impersonating General Steele was still a capital offense. Jack wouldn't get out alive this time.
"Jack, wait for the trial!" Jerry and the others taunted as they passed by the Steele family. "Boy, I'll take over your properties and women, hahaha!"
After being taken into the police car, Drake whispered, "Sir, why didn't we resist?"
Jack replied, "If we fought back, those ordinary policemen would die needlessly. There must be someone behind the scenes helping us. I want to find out who it is. The fate of the Shaw and Steele families is sealed—they won't escape."
Hearing this, Drake realized that with his own status, Zeke couldn't have summoned the Officer of South State with just two documents. There had to be a bigger conspiracy at play.
Jack continued, "Tell Simon to protect Emily and Cindy. It's important to keep my assets safe. I'll reclaim them in the future!"
"Understood," Drake replied, sending the order through the most advanced military intelligence device.
That night, Wyndcrest was rocked by an upheaval.
Early the next morning, news of the death of Ray, the Boss of Northside, spread throughout the city, causing all the local forces to stir. The leaders of the gangs controlling the north and south of Wyndcrest had died, prompting the return of some retired gang members!
This meant a reshuffling of the underworld forces in Wyndcrest!
As people speculated, another piece of breaking news surfaced: "Drake, the chairman of Destroy Steele Group, has been arrested for involvement in a terrorist incident. The group has been temporarily banned, and all its businesses suspended."
While the first piece of news was just about gang conflicts, the second one suggested a seismic shift in Wyndcrest's situation.
Everyone in the city knew that once the group was founded, it had destroyed the Steele family with immense power. It was rumored that the group had mobilized an entire division of forces for that operation. Later, it won several large official projects and became the city's undisputed number one consortium!
But no one had expected the illustrious group to face punishment today.
At the same time, at the Foster family home...
"Grandma, Destroy Steele Group is finished. Drake is done for!" Bob ran over excitedly to tell Ladyship Foster the news.
Ladyship Foster was also smiling. She nodded, "I heard the news earlier. The Foster family is truly blessed!"
Ladyship Foster's expression darkened as she added viciously, "Emily has no one to rely on now. I'm going to repay them for the humiliation they caused us! Her family will be homeless in the future!"
