Carry lay on the ground with his eyes wide open, already devoid of life.
Jack casually threw the phone aside and turned to leave. From the phone came his father's anxious voice, "Carry, Carry, what's wrong? Speak to me!!..." But there was no response.
An hour later, all the direct descendants of the Shaw family had gathered at the Shaw family residence. Led by Sean, several family managers stood with grim faces around an elderly man with graying hair—the current head of the Shaw family, Jordan Shaw.
In the ancestral hall, Carry's corpse was laid out, covered with a white cloth.
"Father, you must avenge Carry!" Sean cried out in anguish, kneeling in front of Jordan. Carry was his only son, and he wished he could tear Jack apart for what he had done!
"Sean, get up!" Jordan said coldly, his lips pressed together. "Even if you didn't beg me, I would still seek revenge for my grandson! Our family has kept a low profile for too long, causing some fools to forget their place and try to step on us to rise—what utter folly!"
"Bang!" Jordan slammed his palm on the armrest, causing a loud noise. The Shaw family members in the ancestral hall were too scared to make a sound. "Who is Jack Steele? Does he not know that the Shaw family is the top family in Wyndcrest?" Jordan demanded.
"Grandpa, I know who Jack is!" Lisa stood up to answer. She had been injured by Jack when he rescued Cindy from the Shaw family, but after that, she had been unable to find any information about him. She never expected that today Jack would kill her cousin!
After listening to Lisa's account, the Shaw family members finally realized that Jack was Catherine's adopted son!
"So, Jack holds a grudge against our Shaw family because of Catherine and her illegitimate daughter, Cindy?" Jordan asked with a cold smile.
"Yes, Grandpa!" Lisa gritted her teeth. "After Catherine's death, if our family hadn't provided food for Cindy, she would have starved to death on the streets. Now, Jack not only shows no gratitude but dares to kill Carry—such despicable behavior! He is nothing but a complete scoundrel!"
Upon hearing Lisa's words, the Shaw family members were filled with outrage, their voices rising in anger.
"Yes, Jack is a beast!"
"A cruel and deceitful beast!"
"We must avenge Carry!"
Jordan looked at the united Shaw family members and nodded in satisfaction.
"Since that's the case, I'll leave dealing with Jack to you. Carry was killed mainly because of Jack's underhanded tactics and Carry's own lack of caution. You must be more careful when you go after him. Whoever manages to eliminate Jack will be the next in line for the family nomination!"
"Yes, Grandpa!" The Shaw family members responded loudly, their faces showing uncontrollable excitement at the mention of the "family nomination."
Meanwhile, Jack returned to Dragon Crest.
"Sir, you're back," Simon said, visibly relieved to see Jack return safely.
"Just a couple of small pests," Jack said calmly. "Simon, from now on, stay at Dragon Crest and protect Ms. Trump and Cindy's safety."
"Understood, I will complete the task perfectly!" Simon saluted Jack seriously.
At that moment, Tina came over with a smile. "Dinner is ready, come and eat." As she turned to head to the kitchen to bring out the food, she accidentally tripped on the steps. Simon reacted quickly, catching Tina, and a necklace fell out of his pocket.
"Hey, how did this necklace end up with you?" Tina exclaimed, picking up the necklace.
"Do you know this necklace?" Simon's heart skipped a beat.
"It's a bit embarrassing, but I sold this necklace for two thousand dollars to a girl when I was short on cash," Tina said with an awkward smile, preparing to return the necklace to Simon. But Simon grabbed her soft hand, his expression agitated.
"Mr. Cooper..." Tina was startled, looking nervously at the man in front of her.
Simon realized his actions were inappropriate and quickly let go, his face reddening. "Sorry, I got too excited. I apologize!"
"Nothing." Tina said with a small smile, then hurried into the kitchen.
Leaning against the staircase, Jack observed the entire scene. He shook his head with a slight smile, marveling at the strange fate that Tina turned out to be the person who had helped Simon all those years ago!
Elsewhere, Emily was overseeing a construction site. With the Boss of the Northside in charge of safety, the redevelopment project in the slum was proceeding smoothly. Just then, her phone rang—it was Bob calling. After a moment of hesitation, she answered.
"Sister..." For the first time, Bob addressed her as "Sister."
Emily was momentarily taken aback and couldn't help but respond, "Bob, what are you up to now? If you have something to say, just say it!"
"Emily, we grew up together. Do you really think I, Bob, am just someone who would harm my own family for personal gain?" Bob asked in a sorrowful tone.
"Isn't that exactly what you are?" Emily retorted.
"..." Bob was momentarily speechless. Then he said, "I've made a lot of mistakes recently, but after a stern lecture from Grandma, I've had an epiphany. Can I treat you to a meal?"
"You want to treat me to a meal?" Emily was suspicious, feeling that Bob had ulterior motives.
"Emily, please trust me one more time. This time I genuinely want to apologize." Bob said, his tone filled with regret.
Emily hesitated for a moment and then said, "Alright, I'll call Jack and we'll come together."
"No, don't bring Jack!" Bob suddenly exclaimed, "I'm a bit scared of him. If he's there, I'll be too nervous to apologize properly. Let's meet at the restaurant in the mall, okay? I won't hurt you, just trust me one more time!"
"Send me the address." Emily sighed, reluctantly agreeing.
Emily arrived at the mall, feeling more at ease with the crowd around. If Bob tried anything, she could call for help. She decided to give him another chance, out of family ties.
"Emily, over here!" Bob waved from a corner of the restaurant.
Emily walked over and noticed a man with a sinister smile sitting beside Bob.
"Bob, who is he?" Emily asked cautiously, refusing to sit down.
"Oh, come on, Emily!" Bob laughed and immediately pushed her into the seat. "He's just a friend I met today. We'll talk; don't mind him."
Emily felt uneasy but decided to stay, given that she was already there. Soon, the waiter began serving the dishes.
"Besides apologizing, I also have a favor to ask," Bob said with a smile, pouring her a drink.
"That time on the construction site, I offended the Boss of the Northside. It wasn't intentional, but I'm worried he'll hold a grudge against our Foster family. If he unifies the underworld of Wyndcrest, wouldn't our family become his enemy? Can you ask him to forgive me?"
Emily frowned and shook her head. "I can't do that." She wasn't familiar with Ray and couldn't possibly speak to him on such matters. Given Ray's stature as the Boss of the Northside, he might not even consider a second-rate family like the Fosters significant.
"Emily, that's not right!" Bob's face darkened at her refusal.
"I'm not unwilling to help, but I can't. I don't know Ray well," Emily said calmly.
"Hmph, don't lie!" Bob slammed the table and sneered. "John told me that Ray showed up at the construction site because he's trying to go legit and sought you out for business! You're business partners—how can you say you don't know him? You just don't want to help me or the Foster family!"
"What going legit? What business? I don't understand!" Emily was growing angry, putting down her chopsticks and standing up to leave.
"Do you think you can leave now?" Bob grinned wickedly.
"What do you mean?" Emily felt a bad premonition and suddenly felt weak, collapsing into her chair.
Bob laughed coldly, pointing to the drink on the table. "You had a sip of that drink, didn't you? I added something special to it."
"You!" Emily was horrified. "Bob, you bastard!" She tried to call for help, but all her strength was draining away, her eyelids growing heavy.
In the next moment, Emily closed her eyes and passed out.
