Chapter 61

1011 Words
The crowd was shocked by what they saw. 'Mr. Steele? Which Mr. Steele? The only Steele family in Wyndcrest was destroyed, wasn't it? And even at the height of their power, the Steele family couldn't have afforded a Lincoln Emperor! This car is beyond the reach of money alone! Without significant global influence, there's no way to get access to such a vehicle.' Only Emily, upon hearing "Mr. Steele," showed a hint of joy, a beautiful smile spreading across her face as she lifted the hem of her dress and walked toward the car door. Nancy felt a wave of relief seeing her daughter finally taking the initiative to approach someone of high status. Compared to the distinguished person in front of her, Nancy now held Jack in even lower regard! While her mind was spinning with these thoughts, the rear window of the Lincoln Emperor slowly rolled down. When Nancy saw the face of the man in the back seat, her mouth opened so wide in shock that an apple could fit inside. 'Jack?! Where did he get the money to buy such a luxurious car? He doesn't even have a job! How could he possibly have this much money?' Nancy was completely confused, her brain unable to process what she was seeing. Doan and his mother stood timidly to the side, helplessly watching Emily get into the back seat of the Lincoln Emperor. Doan didn't dare compete with such a powerful figure for a woman! "Jack, you've given me yet another huge surprise!" Inside the car, Emily looked at Jack with a sweet expression, feeling extremely fortunate. Jack snapped his fingers, and the Lincoln Emperor drove forward under the envious gazes of the crowd. "By the way, Jack, where did you get this car? I heard them say there are only three of these in the entire world. Even someone as powerful as Drake wouldn't be able to get their hands on one of these cars, right?" Emily asked curiously. Jack smiled and said, "In our alliance, there's only one! And it belongs to the only five-star general, General Steele." "What?!" Emily was shocked, and she covered her mouth with her hand. "How did you get this car?" She widened her eyes and exclaimed, "General Steele sacrificed himself. You didn't steal this car from him, did you?" Jack had already spoken quite directly, but Emily still couldn't believe that Jack was the "General Steele!" He could only say, "This is just a fake that I modified myself to look like the real thing." Emily felt much more at ease hearing this. In her view, Jack, a recently retired ordinary soldier, couldn't possibly have gotten his hands on the real Lincoln Emperor. Moreover, she wasn't particularly interested in luxury cars. The car arrived at the entrance of the auction house. Jack and Emily held hands as they got out. As soon as they entered the auction hall, a private butler approached them to guide them. "Mr. Steele, Miss Foster, your private box is ready. Please follow me." "A private box?" Emily was taken aback. This auction was of a very high standard, and not everyone was qualified to sit in a private box. "Arranged by Drake," Jack whispered. Emily gave Jack a helpless look. She didn't want Jack to keep asking Drake for favors because of her. Before entering the box, Emily said, "Jack, I'm going to the restroom first. You go ahead, I'll be there shortly." Jack nodded and went in first. As Emily was leaving the restroom and about to head to the box, she heard someone behind her say, "Well, well! Emily! Why do I run into you everywhere, you slut?" She turned around and saw that it was Jolina, whose face had been beaten by Jack but was now fully restored. Emily asked in confusion, "What are you doing here?" "You don't deserve to know! Get out of my way!" Jolina shoved Emily forcefully, strutting past her with arrogance, causing Emily to stumble and fall to the ground. When Emily returned to the box, Jack noticed that she was limping. "What happened?" Jack asked with a frown. The attendant at the door immediately stepped forward and explained the incident in detail. "Jack, it's just a small matter. I didn't expect to run into her..." Emily didn't want to cause any more conflicts. "I'll handle it." Jack said, patting her hand reassuringly. He then asked the attendant to bring some ointment for sprains and carefully applied it to her. The main items up for auction today were jewelry and diamonds. Besides the large box occupied by Jack and Emily, there were three other private boxes, though Jack didn't know who was inside them. The regular guests sat in the hall below, where Jolina and her companion were seated in the third row. From the box, Jack easily spotted the obnoxious and flashy woman. The auction soon began. The first items to be auctioned were just some ordinary pieces of jewelry. Jolina showed no interest in these, spending her time touching up her makeup instead. Midway through the auction, a gemstone necklace with a starting bid of 260,000 dollars was presented. Jolina immediately began to flirt with the man beside her. The man had no choice but to start bidding. From the box, Jack suddenly felt that the man next to Jolina looked somewhat familiar. But with just a view of his back, Jack couldn't recall where he had seen him before. "Alright, the current bid for this gemstone necklace is 580,000 dollars by Mr. Steele. Is there anyone who wants to bid higher? 580,000 dollars, going once!!" The auctioneer pointed at the man beside Jolina, shouting excitedly. Jolina was equally excited, tightly hugging the man beside her. At that moment, she basked in the attention of the entire crowd, greatly satisfying her vanity. "He's also a Steele?" Jack frowned. "580,000 dollars, going twice!" "580,000 dollars, going three times!" The auctioneer was about to strike the gavel when Jack's calm voice suddenly rang out, "I bid 580,001 dollars."
