Chapter 106

After Edward finished his tirade, the room fell into a stunned silence. Decora turned pale, drenched in sweat. "Were you talking to me just now?" James stepped forward slowly, glaring at Edward. "You're the oldest here!" Edward, still oblivious to the change in atmosphere, reached out, intending to slap James. Edward thought that since his brother was the captain of the police, and he had dined with Williams several times, the police station was like his home. Naturally, he felt entitled to act as he pleased. Just as Edward was about to slap James, Asgore kicked him away. "How dare you! Who the hell do you think you are?" Williams snapped, coming to his senses. "How dare you be disrespectful to the governor? You're courting death!" "Swish! Swish!" A group of policemen rushed forward and pinned Edward down. "Wha-what's going on?!" Edward's face turned ghostly pale. He turned to Decora, pleading, "Decora, save me! What's going on?" Decora quickly averted his gaze. He wanted nothing to do with his foolish brother. Edward didn't even know who the governor was and wanted to slap him! He must be courting death. "Edward, how dare you strike the governor?" Williams's eyes widened in disbelief. "I-I..." Edward stammered, coming to terms with the reality of the situation. He hadn't realized who the old man was. No wonder he looked familiar; he was a prominent figure who often appeared on TV! Realizing his mistake, Edward wailed and begged for mercy. "It's not my fault!" He pointed at Jack. "It's all his fault! He beat me so badly I couldn't recognize the governor!" In a desperate moment, he tried to shift the blame onto Jack. After all, Jack had offended the Adela family, so Edward felt no guilt. However, as soon as he finished speaking, James pushed through the crowd, striding toward the interrogation room. Upon reaching the door, he knelt down and said loudly, "I, James Dodge, pay my respects to General Steele. I'm late. Please forgive me, Sir!" Everyone present was stunned. Edward's eyes were wide with horror. He felt as though he couldn't breathe! He never imagined the man he had just sent to jail was General Steele—the fearsome man who had single-handedly defended the border against many enemies. Wasn't it rumored that he had perished? Why was he here now? Edward trembled in fear. "Get up. You don't have to do this." Jack said indifferently. "Please forgive me. I didn't know you were here! Otherwise, I would have welcomed you like royalty!" James knelt, his voice filled with panic. "I said stand up. Do you understand?" Jack asked coldly. Terrified, James immediately stood up and stepped aside respectfully. "The fact that I'm still alive is a top military secret! Anyone who dares to leak it will die!" Jack glared around the room, his voice chilling. Everyone present shivered and nodded hastily. "What should we do with this guy?" Williams pointed at Edward. Edward's face went pale. He broke free from the grip of several policemen and crawled toward Jack. "Sir, I disturbed you. Please show me mercy and let me go this time!" As he spoke, he kowtowed frantically. "Bang! Bang! Bang!" In the blink of an eye, Edward's head was covered in blood. Jack frowned. "Alright, stop." "Thank you, Your Honor! Thank you, Your Honor!" Edward sobbed, tears and snot mingling on his face, looking utterly humiliated. "But we can't let him go now. The news must not leak!" Jack said. "Also, investigate his connections with the Adela family. What might happen after offending them? How capable are they?" Everyone felt a twinge of pity for the Adela family. They were about to be in big trouble. Then, Jack moved to another room to release Emily. "Can we leave now?" Emily asked anxiously. She had been worried about him getting into trouble. Seeing him come to rescue her eased her tension. "We're lucky," Jack chuckled. "That guy wanted to torture me, but he just happened to run into the governor during an inspection, so he let me out." "So that's how it is." Emily scanned the area for signs of the city. "What about the governor? Has he left?" "Of course." Jack replied. "He was furious that this happened, so he went to a meeting with a group of leaders." Hearing this, Emily felt much better. She smiled. "How are you so lucky? Last time, the City Lord saved you, and this time, the governor did! You're lucky enough to win the lottery!" Jack suddenly felt he should buy a lottery ticket to explain the source of his future wealth to her. After leaving the police station, they headed straight for the hotel. When it was time for the banquet, they rushed to the venue. The entrance to the Titan Hotel was already crowded with people, and luxury cars worth millions filled the parking lot. After getting out of the taxi, Jack and Emily joined the line to enter. "There are so many people tonight," Emily observed as she looked at the throngs around her. "Jack, in addition to the local businesses, there are many consortiums from other cities here. Try not to get into any conflicts," she cautioned. Jack smiled. "I don't like to make trouble." But just as he finished speaking, a mocking voice called out, "It's you! You're here for the banquet too!" Jack turned around and found Homer, the patriarch of the Adela family, along with his precious son. "Why do I have to meet this jerk everywhere I go?" Emily said, annoyed. Homer's expression darkened. "How dare you two escape from the police station! Arrest them!" When Homer's bodyguards heard the order, they immediately charged toward Jack.
