Chapter 27

Ladyship Foster smiled triumphantly and nodded. "Good girl. Hanks, Bob, let's go." With that, she walked out of the villa with an air of arrogance. Bob sneered at Emily as he passed by, his smugness extremely irritating. Once they had left, Nancy collapsed onto the floor, wailing. She pointed at Frank and cursed, "Oh God, how did I marry such a weak and useless man? People are trampling all over our family, and you don't say a word. You even let our daughter give up the project!" "That's 100 million dollars—money we could never spend in a lifetime, just handed over to someone else. Oh God, I'd rather die!" Nancy continued to lament. Frank's face turned red, unable to say anything. He had always been afraid of his mother and never dared to argue with her. Confronting her felt worse than dying. "I'm sorry, Jack." Emily turned to hug Jack, her voice filled with guilt. "Sweetheart, it's nothing," Jack said, smiling. "Trust me, Ladyship Foster will come to us. She'll soon realize tonight's decision was a huge mistake!" "Okay." Emily nodded obediently. Jack suggested, "Don't be too upset. Let's go out and have some fun to relax." Emily glanced back at her mother, who was still berating her father, and agreed, eager to escape the harsh words. The two of them hailed a cab and went to a downtown bar. "Jack, why are we here?" Emily asked curiously. She hadn't been to a bar since leaving school. Jack smiled mysteriously. "You'll find out soon." He pushed open the door to a private room. "Mr. Steele! Miss. Foster! Finally, you're here!" Drake stood respectfully, bowing as they entered. Emily was startled and tensed up. She had just given up the project Drake had entrusted to her, and seeing him now filled her with guilt. Drake smiled gently. "Miss. Foster, don't worry. Mr. Steele told me everything. It's not your fault; it's that narrow-minded old lady's." "You're not angry?" Emily asked nervously. "Why would I be?" Drake blinked. "It's just a project. If they want it, let them take it. But they should remember that the Destroy Steele Group is in charge. I have a hundred ways to make sure they can't proceed. Bob is so naive!" Emily couldn't help but laugh, covering her mouth. She looked at Jack. "Jack, I didn't know you and Drake were such good friends." "Back on the battlefield, I saved his life. So, forget 100 million; even 100 billion wouldn't be an issue," Jack said nonchalantly. Hearing this, Emily felt a huge weight lift from her shoulders. Knowing they had a life-and-death bond, she realized there was no need to worry. The three of them sat down in the private room. Drake mentioned, "Mr. Steele, they've arrived downstairs. They'll be here soon." Jack nodded in acknowledgment. A few minutes later, the door opened, revealing a familiar figure—Simon Cooper, the brother of General Edwin. "You're here," Jack greeted calmly. "I want to know about my brother," Simon said directly. At the recent Carter family banquet, Jack had told him that his brother was still alive. This news had haunted him, so he arranged to meet Jack for more details. "Drake, explain it to him," Jack said, taking a sip of his drink. Drake nodded and recounted how Edwin had joined the Skyblade, describing it as a special operations unit without mentioning its true nature. "So, after that fight, my brother was saved by your people!" Simon sighed in relief. In truth, Edwin had fought because of Simon. Simon had written a love letter to a pretty girl at school, which another suitor discovered. This suitor brought some thugs who beat Simon up and humiliated him. Simon, unable to bear the shame, wanted to retaliate with a knife. His brother, Edwin, joined him, worried for Simon's safety. They fought bravely but were outnumbered and separated. Simon was rescued by Chloe, while Edwin vanished. The police presumed Edwin was dead. "No wonder you became a subservient son-in-law to the Carter family. Chloe saved you," Jack nodded and said, his curiosity satisfied. "What's your plan now? Will you stay with the Carters?" Jack asked. Simon thought for a moment. "I want to see my brother, but I owe my life to Chloe. Although she treats me poorly, I believe if I persist in being good to her, she'll eventually see my sincerity!" Jack and Drake shared a helpless look. They didn't want to reveal Chloe's infidelity, knowing it would devastate Simon. Just then, the door was kicked open. Scarface, from the amusement park, stormed in with a group of armed thugs. "I've been watching you all day. Finally, I have my chance!" Scarface sneered, glaring at Jack and the others. "Jack," Emily clung to Jack's arm, her face tense. "Don't worry. They're just trash," Jack said dismissively. Scar's face turned red with anger. Waving his machete, he shouted, "Attack! Leave the couple to me. Kill the rest!" Scar wanted to crush Jack's skull and subject Emily to endless humiliation, so they couldn't die yet. The others were just collateral damage. As Scar grinned hideously, his men charged, but Drake leaped up, tackling them. In ten seconds, fifty thugs were on the ground, defeated. Terrified, Scar turned to flee but crashed into a solid figure. Drake glared coldly at him. "You think you can just come and go as you please?" Scar, panicked, dropped to the floor, kissing Drake's shoes. "I'm sorry! Please, let me live. I won't do it again!" Drake glanced at Jack, who signaled to throw him out. He didn't want to kill in front of Emily. Drake grabbed Scar by the collar and tossed him outside. Simon looked at Drake in awe. "Bro, you're amazing!" "Amazing?" Drake grinned. "Your brother is even better. He was the best fighter in our unit." "Really?" Simon's eyes were full of admiration. Drake wasn't lying. Among the Skyblade's ten war generals, Edwin was the fiercest, the sharpest blade under General Steele. Drake had stronger overall abilities, excelling in combat, reconnaissance, counter-reconnaissance, and assassination. That's why Jack often took him on missions. "Alright," Jack stood up. "Everyone has their path. If you choose to stay, we respect that." He was about to leave with Emily when the door was kicked open again. Scarface stumbled back in, this time with a handsome young man in a suit. The young man was heavily intoxicated, his eyes barely open, and he was constantly hiccupping from the alcohol. Scarface pointed at Jack's group, snarling, "Mr. Walter Hill, these are the ones who insulted you. They called you an i***t, unworthy of their respect!" The drunk young man swaggered in. "Ha! A bunch of nobodies dare look down on me? I'll give you a chance to apologize. Lick my shoes clean. Isn't that generous?" Jack recognized him as Chloe's lover. He had been kicked off Dragon Crest but was too drunk to recognize Jack and Drake now. At that moment, a beautiful woman rushed in, shouting anxiously, "Honey, why are you here? You're drunk; don't wander off." Hearing the familiar voice, Jack smiled. The show was about to begin. Simon stared at the woman, stunned. His mind went blank. "Chloe, what are you doing here? And why did you call him 'honey'?" Simon asked, his voice trembling. Chloe hadn't expected to see her real husband here, and her face turned pale.
