Chapter 6

"Captain Rowe, arrest him now!" Sam urged, seeing Rowe hesitate. Rowe looked embarrassed. "I can't arrest this officer. It's beyond my jurisdiction." "Captain Rowe, I thought you were an upright officer, but when faced with real power, you are a coward!" Sam assumed Rowe was intimidated by Jack's credentials. In truth, Rowe was indeed wary. If Jack truly belonged to a secretive high-level agency, it wasn't just about fear; Rowe simply had no authority to arrest him. "This is just a warning," Jack declared, his gaze sweeping over the Yates family. "If any of you dare to covet my woman, you'll end up like George." With that, Jack and Drake left the banquet. Watching Jack's retreating figure, Sam ground his teeth. "I don't care who you are. You killed my son, and you'll pay with your life!" "That's right. A life for a life is only fair!" came a sinister voice from behind Sam. It was Tom Steele. "Mr. Steele, I'm sorry to have disrupted your evening," Sam said. Even in his grief, he dares not to show disrespect to a Steele. Tom waved dismissively. "My condolences, Mr. Sam Yates. I'll leave you to mourn your loss." He left for the Steele family mansion. *** "What did you say? That bastard Jack killed George in front of everyone?" Henry's eyes widened. Tom nodded. "And Captain Rowe didn't dare to arrest him after seeing his credentials. Jack seems to have changed a lot. Henry, what should we...?" Henry scoffed. "It doesn't matter what Jack's status is now. We will not agree to his three conditions. I want to see what he can do to make the Steele family disappear! In three days, we have an important guest at Eastwoods Hotel. If Jack has the guts, he can come and try." Hearing this, Tom felt reassured. He had been worried about Jack's recklessness, but remembering the guest's high status, any concern dissipated. True power made Jack's threats a joke. Meanwhile, Jack returned to the presidential suite at Eastwoods Hotel. "Drake, have you found my sister?" Jack asked, standing by the window, overlooking the city like a king surveying his domain. Drake bowed slightly. "Sir, there's no new information yet. We only know that on the night your foster father died, your sister was at home. But by morning, she was gone. We checked all the nearby surveillance but found nothing." "Keep searching," Jack said calmly. As the master of the Skyblade, not being able to locate his sister suggested a deeper conspiracy. Drake nodded and left. Just then, Jack's phone buzzed. It was a message from Emily: "Jack, are you fine? George was killed after you came to the banquet! The Yates family claims it was a group of outlaws trying to rob the place, and George was killed in the struggle. I was in the private room with my parents and didn't see you. I'm so worried about you!" Jack smirked, understanding the Yates' need to save face. A prominent family's heir murdered at a birthday party, with the killer walking out unscathed, was a blow to their honor. If others at the scene didn't want trouble, they'd likely keep quiet. After reassuring Emily, Jack left the hotel. While chatting with Emily, he received a call from his classmate, inviting him to a class reunion that afternoon. Jack initially planned to decline, but upon hearing that Ms. Wilson, their high school teacher, would attend, he agreed. Ms. Wilson was one of the few people who had been kind to him during his school years. She had shared her lunch with him when he was bullied and had stopped others from picking on him. After so many years, he wanted to thank her. Arriving at the restaurant, Jack saw Lily Carter, his classmate, greeting classmates at the door. In high school, Lily had been the school beauty, and years later, she looked even more stunning. "Jack!" Lily recognized him immediately and waved. The men around her gave Jack unfriendly looks. "Hi, Lily. Long time no see." Jack ignored the hostile stares and greeted her warmly. Lily looked Jack up and down, clearly impressed. In high school, Jack had been introverted and malnourished. Now, after eight years in the military, he was strong and exuded a calm and commanding presence that made him even more attractive. "Well, well, it is you, Jack Steele, the big shot from the Steele family. I heard you ran off to join the army after being kicked out." A sneering voice came from Peter Boyd, a former classmate of Jack. "Peter, that's enough. You used to pick on Jack in school, and now you haven't changed at all!" Lily frowned, clearly annoyed. Peter quickly backpedaled, trying to appease Lily. "You are Peter?" Jack vaguely remembered the name after Lily mentioned it. "Ha, big shot Jack can't even remember me?" Peter sneered. "No, I don't remember," Jack admitted honestly. Peter's face darkened. He was about to retort when Jack interrupted, "Stay away from me. I don't want to get too close to someone who's about to die." Everyone's faces changed at Jack's words. "What the hell did you say? You looking for a fight?!" Peter roared, stepping forward to hit Jack. But as soon as he moved, his face turned pale, and he collapsed, clutching his stomach.
