Ray dared not hesitate and rushed out of the room.
"Boss, why did you come out? Is this girl not to your liking?" Ray's subordinate waiting outside thought that Ray was dissatisfied with Emily and might want to keep her for himself.
"I'm really f*****g satisfied!" Ray roared in anger and slapped the subordinate across the face.
"Boss, why did you hit me?" The subordinate looked bewildered.
"Do you know who that woman is inside? That's the wife of my benefactor! You brought her to my bed, are you trying to get me killed?!" Ray yelled, following up with a flurry of punches and kicks.
Hearing the commotion, other subordinates rushed over to see what was happening. "Boss, what's going on?" Billy, leading the group, asked urgently.
Ray pointed at the fallen subordinate. "Chop this guy into pieces and feed him to the pigs. Trying to frame me, get the hell out of here!!!"
"Yes!" Although Billy didn't fully understand the situation, he obediently followed orders. The subordinate wailed and begged for mercy, but Ray showed no signs of leniency.
Half an hour later, Jack arrived. Ray had already changed into proper clothing and stood outside with a group of subordinates, respectfully waiting.
"Where is she?" Jack asked coldly as he approached Ray.
"Mr. Steele, Miss Foster has woken up and is resting in the room," Ray said, trying to be conciliatory.
Jack nodded and quickly walked toward the room. He didn't question Ray about whether he had touched Emily because he knew Ray wouldn't dare.
Inside the room, Emily sat on the bed, still under the effects of the drug, looking dazed. When she saw Jack enter, her eyes filled with grievance.
"Jack!" The woman threw herself into Jack's arms, sobbing softly. "I'm sorry, I should have explained things to you and not made you worry about me!"
"It's alright as long as you're safe," Jack said, relieved, his voice gentle.
"Bob, he..."
"I know," Jack said with a slight smile. "I've already been to the Foster family residence, and they've received their due punishment."
"Did you beat them up?" Emily asked with wide eyes in surprise.
Jack shook his head. Beating people was the least effective form of punishment. He had planted seeds of discord in the Foster family that would, in time, grow and ultimately tear the family apart!
At that moment, Emily's assistant called, hurriedly explaining something that made Emily's expression turn anxious.
"Jack, I need to go to the Forest Hotel now," Emily said urgently.
"What's the matter?" Jack helped her off the bed.
"I forgot about an afternoon project bid. The proposal for Joyland Realty has already been submitted, and the bidding is about to start. My assistant is waiting for me there," Emily briefly explained.
Jack understood her plan. Although Joyland Realty had a large renovation project, it was too big to complete in a few years. To turn around their finances and expand their market, they needed to take on smaller, quicker projects first. Emily had a sharp business sense.
Jack drove Emily to the bidding site, where various luxury cars were already parked outside.
As Emily was about to enter, a mocking voice called out from the side, "Oh, isn't this Emily?" The speaker was a woman dressed provocatively, arm-in-arm with a plump man.
"Are you... Mary Jane?" Emily was momentarily stunned, finally recognizing the woman as her high school roommate.
"I'm not Mary Jane, what nonsense are you talking about!" Mary Jane, now fuming, yelled, "My name is Jolina now, call me Jolina."
"Sorry, I misspoke," Emily said with a slight smile, choosing not to engage further.
Jolina and Emily were classmates with no particular bond. During school, Jolina was already involved with wealthy men, regardless of their looks.
"Are you here for the bidding? How coincidental, my husband is also bidding today, and you're up against him," Jolina said with a smug smile.
The man beside her, her husband, named Martin, leered at Emily's angelic beauty with blatant desire.
Jolina's eyes brightened when she saw the handsome Jack, but she was disappointed by his plain clothes, which didn't look like they belonged to a wealthy man.
Jolina sneered, "Emily, you were better than me in high school, but now you can only look up to me. I'll show you what a real rich person is. This project will definitely go to my husband!" She then dragged Martin into the bidding site.
"Ugh, so boring," Emily said with a frown, sighing as she entered the venue with Jack.
The project involved building a road from a small town to the city, a small-scale project that suited Joyland Realty's current situation.
However, as the bidding meeting began, things took a turn.
A representative from the organizer stepped onto the stage and announced, "First, welcome everyone to this bidding meeting. Since this project is straightforward and all the proposals are excellent, we couldn't choose a suitable partner. We've decided to change the rules and auction the project. The money raised will be donated to a welfare institution!"
There was an immediate uproar among the attendees. Auctioning a project for charity was unheard of. The organizers must have their reasons, so participants had no choice but to comply.
However, some smaller companies, which had come for the small project due to financial constraints, were unwilling to compete in a bidding process that required significant funds. As a result, representatives from several small companies stood up and left.
Emily was also preparing to leave. Joyland Realty was merely a shell and couldn't compete with the larger firms. It was better to look for other suitable projects.
Just then, Jolina's mocking voice rang out, "Emily, are you leaving already? Not planning to participate in the auction?"
Emily ignored her and continued walking towards the exit.
Jolina scoffed and continued, "You really are just a show-off, always pretending. You haven't changed a bit since high school!"
Jack, who was following Emily, stopped upon hearing this.
"Jack, don't let her get to you," Emily said, sensing he might be upset. She quickly took his arm and spoke softly.
Jolina, however, coldly smiled, "Oh, you want to get even with me? Does he have the ability to? A pathetic little tramp and a poor loser, pretending to run a company and bid on projects. They should know their place! Just a couple of filthy rats in the gutter!"
"Enough!" Ignoring Emily's attempts to stop him, Jack stepped in front of Jolina.
"Are you going to hit me?" Jolina rolled her eyes disdainfully. "A slutty tramp and a poor fool, you think you can do anything...!!" Before she could finish, Jack's slap landed heavily on her face.
"Smack!"
Jolina's jaw twisted from the impact!
