The mood in the chat started to shift.
A: [Is this chick ever going to get on the mic?]
B: [I like the streamer. She doesn't back down.]
C: [This has to be another troll making s**t up. Seriously?]
The other person stayed silent for a few minutes before finally joining the call. Her voice was distorted with a voice changer.
"I just can't stand your fake innocent act. You hit on guys who are already taken, and you don't even have the guts to admit it. You're disgusting."
I let out a cold laugh. "Plenty of people can't stand me. What number are you on the list?"
The chat immediately filled with laughing emojis.
I kept my tone mocking. "You don't even have the guts to say who his girlfriend is, yet you're already calling me a homewrecker. What, scared you'll say the wrong name and have no way to walk it back? Or maybe you don't actually have any proof because the guy you're claiming is taken never even gave you the time of day?"
The other person immediately hung up and left the livestream.
The chat exploded.
A: [Holy s**t, did she just get called out?]
B: [This is better than any trashy TV drama.]
C: [So she made the whole thing up? She literally started drama for no reason?]
I shrugged. "All right, show's over. I'll be back to taking requests tomorrow."
The second I ended the livestream, Stella slapped her thigh. "Cathy, that was freaking badass."
Nia, however, frowned. "Do you think Jane Doe knows you?"
"She's from our school." I didn't even bother hiding my answer. "Grace Vale."
Stella's eyes widened. "The campus queen? Why the hell would she come after you on your livestream?"
I curled my lip. "She's got issues."
The more desperate Grace got, the more entertaining this was starting to become.
If she liked Brian, that was her business.
But who the hell gave her the right to pull this kind of cheap s**t just to make my life miserable?
Then Brian texted me.
Brian: I've seen your livestream. I'll find out who's spreading those rumors about you.
The last time we'd texted had been sometime last year. After that, I stopped replying to him.
If Brian hadn't randomly decided to pick me up today, Grace wouldn't have set her sights on me in the first place.
I replied.
Cathy: The person spreading the rumors is Grace. Do me a favor and keep your girlfriend under control. Tell her to leave me alone.
After sending it, I was so pissed that I blocked and deleted him.
Before bed, I got several calls and messages from unknown numbers.
I didn't open a single one. I blocked every last one.
The day of the basketball tournament, the gym was packed.
I was part of the campus media team and had been assigned to do the live commentary.
Grace was the captain of the cheerleading squad. She went all out during the opening performance, but her eyes kept drifting toward Brian.
During halftime, I had just picked up my water bottle when she marched over, snatched the microphone right out of my hand, and said, "Let me borrow this."
Before I could even react, her voice rang through the entire gym.
"Can I have everyone's attention for two minutes? I'd like to stand up for my good friend Brian and get him some justice."
The entire gym went silent. Every head turned toward us.
I had a feeling she was about to pull some bullshit again.
Grace pulled out her phone, held it up to the microphone, and played a recording.
"This guy might have some performance issues. I'd suggest making the first move and finding out for yourself."
Those were my exact words from the livestream.
Whispers immediately spread through the crowd. A few people even laughed.
Grace put her phone away, her eyes turning red as she put on the performance of a lifetime.
"Cathy Wood publicly spread rumors about one of our star players just to get more views. Someone like her has no business working for campus media. She also makes money by scamming her followers through livestreams, pretending she's some kind of detective. Today, I'm here to demand answers on behalf of everyone she's ever taken advantage of."
Someone in the stands shouted, "I knew it! Cathy is a scammer. I told you guys, and nobody believed me!"
I stared coldly at Grace. "When you stole Brian's blood and mailed it to me, why didn't you stop and think about your own behavior first?"
Grace smiled smugly. "You don't have any proof. How dare you accuse me of stealing?"
"The blood came from you." My voice rose. "Do you want me to read out your tracking number and our DMs in front of everyone?"
Her smile faltered for half a second. Then she quickly pulled up several screenshots on her phone and held them above her head.
She changed the subject. "These are screenshots of you threatening me in private messages. You said if I got anywhere near Brian again, you'd make sure I was ruined."
The screenshots were obviously fake.
But Grace was the campus queen, and everyone instinctively wanted to believe her.
The whispers grew louder. Then people started throwing things toward the commentary booth.
Grace looked down at me with a smug, superior expression and raised the microphone.
"And that's not even the biggest secret I have."
I was about to stop her when a hand suddenly reached out and snatched the microphone away from her first.
