11th February The weeks had flown by and the snow was finally melting Connor had juggled his time between Autumn and their friends after what had happened before they had returned to school after Christmas and the new year he was more conscious of her insecurities and influences on them to snap more than ever after what he had said after they had done the deed. No one else knew that they had gone past third base and had consensual s*x. But they had agreed it wouldn't happen again unless she was comfortable to take their relationship one step further than being just friends to boyfriend and girlfriend though everyone at that goddamn school thought they were considering how obsessed and possessive he was over her. The sat had finally come to return to school after almost a month of being away because of the weather. Connor knocked on Autumn's door. “Oh hi, Connor.” “Is Autumn in?” “Sure is come through she's been wearing the carpet out all morning.” He laughed stepping in. She closed the door behind him. “Autumn, you have a visitor.” ”Who is it, mom?” “Surprise!!!” “Con.” She said, almost excited to see him. “Sit down Connor. I'll do you a hot drink it's cold out.” “Thanks, Mrs Cleveland.” He walked in sitting down next to Autumn. She hugged him. “You okay babe? We only saw each other the other day.” She dropped her arms from around him. “Yeah, I'm fine. It's just so boring round here there is nothing to do” Autumn's mom placed the drinks down. “I'll leave you two to it.” “Thanks, mom.” “Yeah, thanks.” She walked out of the room Connor spread his arm across the back of the sofa. “At least the snow's almost gone.” ”Yeah.” “We're going back to school tomorrow ain't that great.” “I guess.” “You okay babe I thought you'd be pleased.” “I'm surprised you are, you don't like school.” “I know, but I have you to keep me in line.” “I haven't done a good job of that so far.” “You have babe, I don't know half as much as I used to. My teachers are impressed with me so is Mr Grayson he often comments on how pleased he is to see me going to all my lessons. It's all thanks to you babe and I told him that too.” “Why did you do that for?” “Cause, it's the truth. He was happy that I was keeping him out of trouble and had made him feel welcome. I try my best you looked so lost that day.” “I guess.” “I'm glad we're friends, babe.” “Me too.” “So how are you feeling about tomorrow?” “Okay, I guess.” “You have Harding first thing.” “I know.” She sighed. “You'll find it a little hard to get back into it the first few sessions I did so did dan him more so than me we had a lot of time off last winter it was worse than this one.” She looked at him she remembered last winter and what had happened like it was only yesterday and it had happened again. “You okay babe?” “Yeah, I'm fine.” “Cool.” He pulled her close. “It'll be fine babe trust me.” “I hope so.” “So how long have you got to wear the patch for?” “I have an appointment next Tuesday to check to see if it's all healed up could take all day.” “Harding's going to love that.” “He'll be cool.” “Let's hope so, for your sake.” 12th February Connor knocked on Autumn’s door she opened the door. “Oh hi, Con.” “So are we ready to go?” “Yeah.” She said, closing the door behind her. He dropped his arm over her shoulders and they walked away. “So how are you feeling about today babe? You have Harding this morning?” “Yeah, I’m fine.” “You don’t sound fine.” “What if they all laugh at me Con?” “They won’t.’ “What if they do?” “They won’t trust me.’ “Hey, guys wait up.” “Dan.” He jogged over to them. “I thought you’d already be gone by now and at school?” “Nah, mom couldn’t wake me, bad night.” “Nightmares?” “Yeah.” He looked at Autumn. “Hey Red, it’s good to see your back.” “I guess.” “So when are they taking the patch off?” “Next week hopefully.” “Does the school know?” “They’ve been notified yes.” “I bet Harding’s pleased, he ain’t like Grayson at all, he likes everything running smoothly.” “So does Grayson.” “He’s worse, so I’ve heard.” “Well, at least the snow’s nearly gone.” They all walked into the high school where their friends were waiting. “Hey Con, Dan, Autumn.” “Come on babe.” They all walked over to them. “So how are you, Autumn?” “Okay.” “So when are they taking it off?” “Next week hopefully.” “Good.” The bell rang. “We’ll see you at the break.” “Sure.” The friends parted company. “I best go Con, I have Harding.” “Sure, we’ll see you at the break.” He said, kissing her cheek. “Later Red.” “Yeah, later Dan.” She walked away. “Gee that was hard. How did you do it Con? What did you say to her?” “Just tried to ignore the issue and do different stuff.” “Like what?” “Just stuff.” Mathew stood at the door of the office. His eyes showed anger. She chose to ignore it walking into the office and sitting down. He slammed the door shut she jumped. He sat opposite her his glare angry for several minutes. She was the first to speak. “Are you going to speak to me? If not this session is a waste of time and I may as well be in the lesson.” He stated his silence. “Fine I’ll go.” She said, pulling herself up. Walking away. “Why did you tell Grayson that I came round to see you?” She turned. “I didn’t, mom did she thought he knew.” “Well he didn’t.” “I’m sorry okay? Did she praise you up to him okay? She said that you made a good impact on me.” “He wanted to know why I was there. I told him that I thought I could get you to talk and get the truth out if you to who threw the snowball at you. I guess I was wrong.” “Oh.” “He asked me how long I was there for, I told him twenty mins tops so if he asks.” “Fine.” “So when’s it coming off?” “Next Tuesday.” “Does then head know?” “Yes, Mom kept her informed.” “Fine.” “Don’t take your strop out on me. This isn’t my fault she told him to thank you for coming when we saw him. she thought she was doing the right thing giving you a good recommendation.” “Well, she didn’t.” “I tried to tell her okay, she thought I was being a stroppy cow. I didn’t want to get you into trouble Matt. Parents will be parents please don’t take this out on me.” He looked at her, he could tell that she didn’t want to be in school being angry with her was making it worse. “I’m sorry Autumn, it’s just he can go and see you and I can’t.” She looked at him. “I was concerned. I wanted to see if you were okay.” “I know. I’m sorry too. My mom has a big mouth.” “Please sit down.” She walked back over to the sofa sitting opposite him. “We haven’t got long.” She looked at him. “So, I’d like to get to the reason why you’re hiding the truth away about who did this to you.” “I’m not.” “Well if you’re not, your friends are.” She looked at him. “They know who done it Autumn you can tell in someone’s eyes when they’re hiding the truth. And they are they may have sour face fooled but not me.’’ “I don’t know honest.” “You’re talking to me now Autumn not sour face not Mr Grayson me.” “I know, but I don’t know who threw it.” “What made you turn your head Autumn.” “I – I can’t remember.” He placed his hands on hers. “Try.” Her lips trembled. The bell rang. “We’ll continue this talk Thursday okay.” He said slipping his hand off hers. “Okay.” She said, pulling herself up and walking out of the room closing the door behind her, walking down the corridor walking outside lighting a cigarette, tears falling off her face.
