17th December - Mathew Harding’s Observation
Mathew stood waiting for Autumn, she approached him a little nervous. “So how are you feeling about today Autumn?”
“A little nervous my stumach is knotting.”
“You’ll get fine Autumn. Just act normal and like it’s just you and me you managed to forget Mr. Grayson was there it’s only the same but they’ll behind the screen watching to they’ll be watching me Autumn, not you so relax.”
“I’ll try.”
They went down to the room wheee they’d been only four days ago. He closed the door. ’Please take a seat Autumn.”
She sat down Mathew sat opposite. “Right Autumn we’re being observed today so just relax okay.”
“Okay.” She said nervously twitching.
“So I’d like to begin at the beginning and work my way up to where we got to the other day if that’s okay with you.”
“Yeah that’s fine.”
“So tell me a little about you and where you were originally from and why you moved here.”
“I lived in the Netherlands with my mom, dad and older brother.”
“Did you have many friends over there.”
“Yeah loads.”
“So can you tell me the reason why you moved over to the U.K. it must’ve been a big step for you.”
“It was. It was a family problem.”
“I see.”
“Mom and dad divorced me and my brother got separated I lost my friends.”
He looked at her.
“So I’d like it if you could please tell me a little about your family today.”
“Okay.” She swallowed.
“I’d like to begin with where you all lived before.”
“We lived in the Netherlands.”
“Wow. That’s along way away.”
“Well stuff happens.”
“Sure does.” He looked at her, he could see she was uncomfortable talking about this subject, but he had to press on to get to why she came to the U.K. and what happened for her to see him. “So what was it like out there?”
“Okay I guess. I had lots of friends. I was sad I had to leave them behind.”
“So all of your family move over here?”
“No, just me and mom. My older brother lives with my dad.”
“How come”
“They’re divorced. My brother and I got separated because we were “too close”.”
“It’s better than not been close at all.l
“They were jealous of our relationship. We wanted to stay together, but they wouldn’t allow it.’
“Tell me a little more about your school in the Netherlands, then your previous school.”
“Okay.” She swallowed, she just wanted to forget.
“So what was your school like in the Netherlands?’
“Big.”
“Did you like it there?”
“Yeah, I had a lot of friends.”
“I bet they were sad that you had to leave.”
“Yeah they were.”
“You said your mom and dad are divorced.”
“Yeah. He found himself someone else and mom found out.”
He looked at her. “You can’t just blame her Autumn.”
“I don’t . I blame him too, he could’ve kept it in.”
“You’re still angry?”
“Damn right I am. He threw away over twenty years of marriage for a skirt no older than you.”
“Right.”
“I hate him okay, they split up and split me and my brother up when we didn’t want to be. I haven’t spoken to him in four years and I’m not supposed to be pissed about it?” She said, angrily.
“I’m sorry, Autumn.”
“Dont matter no more, I had a great life over there. I had great friends and a great brother then they had to go and ruin it all.”
“So, I take it was messy.”
“Yeah and unfair. Just cause he had to go to college then do his degree he had to stay over there. Why couldn’t he come here and do it?”
“I don’t know Autumn, have you tried asking your mom?”
“She doesn’t want to talk about it.”
“She’ll have to one day Autumn, maybe when you leave or go to college and you decide that you want to find him. She’ll have to talk about what really happened.”
“I know.”
“So did you enjoy the school you were in when you lived in the Netherlands?”
“Yeah it was three schools in one. It ran through from the infants through to high school. Though they all stood opposite from one another. They were both combined. I grew up with my friends and my big brother, he always took care of me making sure I didn’t get in any trouble and that I never got bullied. He used to walk me home. I told him he needn’t bother, but he insisted. My friends thought he was hot and sweet, they wished they had a brother like mine.”
“So he was an all round popular guy?”
“I wouldn’t go that far. Everyone looked up to him, no one got on the wrong side of him he was the best big brother you could ever wish for. Pity I had to leave him behind.”
“I guess he’ll be finishing Uni soon?”
“A couple of years time.”
“So did he tell you what his plans were once he left Uni?”
“No.”
“So how old were you when you moved here?’
“Almost twelve.’
“Did you make any friends when you began your new school.”
“Yeah loads.”
“Can you tell me a little about them?”
“Sure.”
“My friends and I hit it off the day I began high school. We didn’t meet Taylor and his friends till I was in year nine. They collared us for being somewhere we weren’t suppose to be. He had so many friends.”
“Let’s talk about the ones he chose to hang with.”
“That would be Steven Downey they called him Downey, Dylan Rudge, or Rudgey and Jamie Stevens or Stevo.”
“So was Taylor his last name too?’
“No it was Mackenzie. His friends called him Macka. He preferred me to call him Taylor he said it sounded sexy when I said it. So I did.”
“So you moved over here when you were what eleven?”
“Almost twelve. I was one of the oldest in my year, we moved over here in July I began high school in the September.”
“It must’ve been a big step.”
“It was.”
“Anyway.’ He coughed again. ’I’d like us to stay on track.”
“Sure.”
“We’re you and his friends close?”
“I guess. We all hung together the guys dug on my friends and they all got it together.’
“So.” He paused. “Tell me a little more about your old school.”
She looked at him unsure where to begin. “Before it happened we were all close we all stayed over Downey’s he and Joanne were inseparable. He was the eldest of the friends it was just before Taylor..” she stopped, tearful.
“Take your time Autumn.”
She nodded.
He gave her a few minutes. “So are we okay to continue?”
“Yeah.’
“So you said everything was cool until the tragedy.”
“Yeah.”
“So what happened?”
“I’m not sure. None of us were. Rudgey went on a downer he shut himself away from everyone Caz couldn’t even get through to him. She tried so hard, but whatever she said made no difference he’d lost his friend who he’d known since primary. They’d become friends with Downey and Stevo in year seven. They done everything together he said it was like loosing a brother they were so close.”
“So what happened to this Rudgey guy?”
Tears fell off her face.
