“You talked about how you felt left out and alone.”
“Yeah.”
“So tell me a little about the kids in your class.”
“There’s not much to tell.”
He looked at her. “You mentioned that they turned against you.”
“They sort of did. It wasn’t just them it was those in Taylor’s year too.”
“So, tell me what happened with these kids that made you feel like you did.”
“They snubbed me. No one would talk to me or acknowledge me. They all blamed me. I’d made a lot of friends through Taylor. Then everything seemed to change their perspective about me. I hated it there the only place I felt I belonged made me an outcast. It was like they blamed me for what had happened to all of them.”
“How could they blame you Autumn you weren’t there?”
“I know. I tried to tell them that I had no idea that they were going to do it. They reckoned I pushed them to it. They thought my friends had confided in me and I’d helped them to take their own lives.”
“The police didn’t find anything that indicated that you were involved did they?”
“No.”
“Well that’s good isn’t it?”
“I guess. But, they seemed to have an overactive imagination when it came to anything to do with what happened to them. Sam was the only one that believed in me.”
“His brother?”
“Yeah, he believed me and stuck up for me. he was the only person that ever believed in me and believed that I didn’t have anything to do with it.”
“At last, you had one person believe in you if no one else did.”
“Yeah, until he took his own life too.”
“He may have had a good reason to Autumn, maybe it was just the fact he was still grieving and finding it hard to cope with the death of his brother.”
“Maybe.”
“How long were you there for?’
“Until summer, weird stuff kept happening.’
“Like what?”
“I’d like to talk about two of them today.”
“Okay it’s your call Autumn, just be prepared that it will be hard to discuss two of your closest friends so any time you wish to stop just say and we’ll take a breather Okay.”
“Okay.”
She sat nervously her fingers twitching.
“Are you okay Autumn? If it’s too much pressure.”
“No, I’m fine.”
“So I take it these two particular friends were found together?”
“Yeah, Downey and Joanne. They were close they did everything together even after everything that had happened. She told me that they were going all the way. She asked me what I thought. I told her if she was sure and if she loved him. She assured me that she was sure so I told her to go for it, he was a nice guy.”
“One you could trust?”
“I guess, they’d been together for a while. She was staying over at his house, I’m not sure what exactly happened just the cops found them in an uncompromising position. The cops reckoned they'd got waisted, but she wasn't like that.”
“Maybe she wanted to try something new.”
“She wouldn’t, she was totally against drugs.”
“Depends on how easily you fall.”
“I guess.” She breathed heavily, continuing. “Anyway, the cops reckoned they took a trip that had gone wrong one of the cops made a joke of them doing an all-nighter. “Must’ve been good!!” They joked. None of us found it funny as the naked teenage dead bodies came out of the house.
They said that their hearts had burst they did tests but with no traces of drugs in their system, they classed it as suicide seen as two healthy teenagers having a heart attack at the same time was suspicious.
They reckoned they chose to end it cause they couldn’t live without thee other.’
“Some guesswork. I don’t think that the cops knew what exactly happened so they guessed because they couldn’t come up with any other explanation for How their hearts had exploded. With no traces of drugs, It was wrist off as another suicide
“We’ll take a break okay.’”
She cut a short, but brief smile.
He pulled himself up making them a coffee. He placed them down. “Thought you might need one.”
“Thanks.”
“You okay with this anytime that you need a breather tell me okay.”
“Okay.”
He sat down looking at her. “I know this is hard for you and everyone seems to be in the way of you getting on with it, but we’re here to help.”
“I know.”
“Just take your time okay.Things take time I’m always here if you need to talk okay.”
She nodded composing herself.
“You talked about some of your friends and Taylor’s. I’d like to concentrate on Taylor’s friends if that’s okay with you.”
“Yeah.”
“So you told me a little about his best friend Rudgey.”
“Yeah.”
“You mentioned there were two more.”
“Yeah.”
“I’d like you to tell me about one of them when you're ready.”
“Okay.”
“Jamie Stevens.”
“Okay, would you like to tell me a little more about him than just his name. He was a friend of Taylor’s wasn’t he?”
“Yeah.”
“So would you like to tell me what happened to him, Autumn?”
Tears formed in her eyes slipping down her face.
“So would you like to tell me what happened to him, Autumn?“
Tears formed in her eyes slipping down her face. “Take your time Autumn I know how hard this is for you.”
“They found him.”
“Who found him, Autumn?”
“The police.”
“Where?”
“In the woods. The back of the park. Charlotte was so cut up, he’d gone missing two days before they had found him. Charlotte found him, she was hysterical.” She cried.
“Take your time Autumn.”
“His parents called the police after they found his bed was empty and it hadn’t been slept in. His window was edged open they didn’t care he was sixteen and they didn’t give a toss they told his parents they had to give it twenty-four hours before he could be classed as missing. Why didn’t they look sooner? They could’ve saved him.” She said angrily.
“They were just doing their job Autumn.”
“Well, it wasn’t good enough.”
The bell rang let them know that the two hours were up for the observation.
“We’ll talk more about this Tuesday okay.”
“Okay.” She said, wiping her eyes.
“You did well Autumn. I’ll see you Tuesday .”
“Okay.”
“Keep your head held high okay.”
“Okay.’”
“Tuesday okay.’
“Okay.”
He opened the door and she walked out. He closed the door. “Well done Mathew.”
He turned looking around at the two eldest males. “You handled that well.”
“I could’ve handled it better. I should’ve given her a break. she needed one having to go through it all again. There was too much pain for her to handle all at once.”
’“You did your best Mathew. You reassured her without harassing gestures. You’re going to go a long way, Mathew. The students here obviously trust you enough to let you in.”
“I guess.
“Well, thanks for letting us observe you.”
“No probs.”
“Thank you Mr Grayson for allowing us to see Mathew work.”
“Not a problem.”
“Well thank you we’ll see you tomorrow.”
“You will.”
Mr Grayson opened the door the assessors thanked him again walking out. Mr Grayson closed the door. “Well done Mathew you did well today keep it up.”
