As expected, the cafeteria was full of students. Gabby had asked them to eat lunch with her, and James had gone before her, so she looked around for them.
She held onto her food tray tightly as she walked towards the two people she was supposed to sit with.
"Over here, Ashley!" She saw David waving at her, and she wondered if he was crazy. He was sitting with the people that had made it to her, I HATE YOU list, and he was still trying to invite her to the same table.
"Thank you, David, but I have a company already. And I would rather starve than eat lunch with you when your little princesses are around" She smiled politely at them before walking away.
"Wait, were you trying to freak me out?" Vanessa asked him. She looked so irritated.
"Did she call us princess?" Victoria took their attention to Ashley's choice of words which they didn't seem to hear or probably not pay attention to.
"I'm a princess," Kelly said as she touched her hair behind her ears.
"She doesn't mean it that way, dummy."
"Chill out guys. I don't see any reason for you guys to hate that girl. She did nothing wrong to be hated for no reason", George, David's best friend said.
"Okay George, I know you don't like me, and you don't hide it, but please don't try to make me look like a bad person. Besides, all of this won't happen if your dad makes the school for just Elites like we want" Vanessa said, loud enough for anyone closer to them to hear.
"Okay Van, she is not as bad as you described. I met her myself yesterday." David supported George.
"I told you to stop trusting Vanessa's judgment."
"Whatever. Do you want to see a movie with me after school?" Vanessa asked David with a different voice. She sounded seductive
"Not today, I'm sorry" he turned her down.
"Sad face picture?" Kelly asked, but she already took a picture before they could refuse, capturing the sad face Vanessa made after being turned down.
"Oh my God guys! I need to use the restroom", she told Gabby and James before running off.
Vanessa was fixing herself in the bathroom mirror when Ashley barged in. She didn't notice Vanessa and just got into the available toilet to empty her bladder.
It wasn't until she came out she saw Vanessa standing like she was going to pick a fight. Ashley decided to ignore her and just went close to the bathroom sink to wash her hands.
"Are you so scared that you are avoiding me now?" Vanessa smirked.
"I'm not avoiding you!" At least, Ashley was going to defend herself.
"Oh?" Vanessa scoffed "Do you know my problem with you? You never keep quiet. And don't worry, you can keep up with that attitude, okay? You will voluntarily become humble when I show you how much I can make your life miserable" She hissed and walked away.
"Just when I thought today would be good."
Ashley fixed herself quickly before running back to the next class.
Grace, Lily, Priscilla, and Danielle all sat on the bleachers, watching the basketball game and talking about other things midway. Priscilla decided to change the whole conversation.
"So guys, my Dad wants me to go to the University of Toronto. I've tried persuading him I want to go to Stanford with you guys, but he won't just let me. His words are final."
"Cheers to us that our Daddy doesn't decide for," Lily said and they giggled.
"Do you want us to come over to your place and convince your Dad?" Danielle was closer to Priscilla in their friendship group, so she asked with great concern.
"And that is an opportunity to finally visit your house. You have never invited us over", Grace said.
"You guys have never met my Dad. He specifically told me and my siblings to never bring friends to his house. And no matter what you do, his words are final."
None of them knows what Dad does, but they know she is from a wealthy family because she matches their expensive lifestyle.
"Sounds more like a dictator" Danielle muttered as she concentrated back on the game.
"Oh my gosh! I think I know why Gabby likes James. He is so hot right now" Lily held her cheeks in her palm.
All of them quickly searched for James with their eyes. He was sweating and used his basketball jersey to wipe it off, revealing his abs.
"Are you blushing?" Grace asked and tried to remove her hands from her cheeks.
"Gabby should give up already. You see that new girl, she is going to be James' girlfriend. I don't even know how she managed to be close to him, no one has done that successfully", Lily added.
"She might even like James already and probably hit on him very soon"
Ashley also came to watch James, and she was not so far away from the four jolly friends. Hearing them made her decide to listen to their conversation, and she couldn't believe they all thought she was trying to hit on James, and she was ready to clear the misunderstanding.
"I'm not so sure of what to think of her yet, but she looks nice" Priscilla commented.
"I don't know her yet, but I'm going to choose her over Vanessa every time. I don't like her one bit", Lily stated her opinion.
"Well…I like David. I mean who doesn't? So I plan to ask him out. Vanessa won't go crazy, right?" Priscilla publicized her plan to her friends
"There is one way to find out, and that is getting David to like you first," Grace said, and they all laughed.
"Ashley!" James' voice brought the four of them back to the game they didn't realize was over. They all wondered if Ashley was around, and she was right behind them. Just two rows in between. The four of them gasped and looked away embarrassingly.
"Hi Ashley, didn't know you were here?" Lily asked awkwardly.
"Yeah. I've been here since she talked about not going to Stanford with you all", Ashley said, intentionally, so they could know she had heard the part they talked about her.
"You don't have to be so detailed," Grace said and faked a smile.
"Were we wrong?" Danielle blurted out.
"Don't be bitchy" Priscilla pinched her
"Yes, you were wrong. Can't I be his friend because I'm not RICH? Because I'm not RICH, does it mean I'm hitting on him?" Ashley said, emphasizing Rich.
"Okay, I don't like her" Danielle whispered to her friends and left alone.
"She is not always like that" Priscilla tried to paint Danielle in a good way. "Let's go guys."
