Abigail's POV I got to the hospital and walked in. Anxious is an understatement for what I'm feeling right now. I walked up to the receptionist and asked what room mom was staying. She told me and I rushed over to the room. Entering the room, I saw mom lying on the bed with Ava sitting beside her, holding her hand. " Mom" I called with my voice shaking. " My baby" She said weakly. " Why didn't you take your drugs when you're supposed to? Do you want something bad to happen to you? Think about us Mom . What if something terrible had happened to you? Do you want us to become orphans?" I said In one go. " Her drugs finished last week" Ava said, avoiding my gaze. What? What am I supposed to do with these people. What are they behaving like this? " And you didn't think you should inform me?" I said angrily. " We didn't want to bother you" Ava said again. " That is very insensitive of you to think like that. You guys are the reason I'm working. I'm doing this to give you a better life that Dad failed to give us and you think you're bothering me? Family members don't bother each other. You should tell me if there's any problem." I said a bit calmly. " You should stop worrying about us and live your life My girl. I feel so bad for taking advantage of you" Mom said this time. Who will tell this people that I'm comfortable with taking care of them. " Mom am I complaining? No right? The only thing I want from you is to take good care of yourself. I'm your child and it is my responsibility to take care of you. You're not bothering me okay? And you are definitely not a burden to me" I said and she smiled. " God bless you my daughter" She prayed for me and I said Amen. " How are you feeling now" " I feel better. " She said and yawned. " Rest now. I will go and meet the doctor" I said and walked out, dragging Ava with me. As we exited the room, I pulled her ear. " Sis what was that for?" " Why did you think I got a phone for you?" I questioned her, ignoring her previous question. " For fun?" She said. I raised my hand to hit her and she ran back. " The primary reason why I got you this phone is to monitor mom. Why will her medications finish for a whole week and you didn't dim it fit to inform me? Am I complaining? Even if she asks you not to inform me, please let me know . I can't afford to lose her too Okay?" I lectured her. " I'm sorry. I thought you will feel burdened if we call you every time something is wrong at home" She said remorseful. " Ever since Dad died, I've always told you that I'm now your dad. And it's my responsibility to look after you. I'm not feeling burdened I promise. Just please look after Mom and yourself okay?" I said. She nodded and I hugged her. We walked to the doctor's office and knocked " Come in " The doctor said and we entered . " Good afternoon ma'am" We greeted the middle aged woman sitting behind the desk. " Good afternoon. You are?" She asked politely. " I am Abigail, Ms. Jones Daughter" I introduced myself. " Oh hi. Well you're lucky you Mom was brought in early. it they were 20 minutes late, it would have been a different story entirely. Luckily she's stable and she would be discharged this evening. I'll write some medications for you. Make sure you get them today and she should use them with the ones she has been taking before. And make sure she doesn't miss any dose." She said in one go. " Okay ma. Thank you so much." We stood up and walked out. I went to the reception to settle the bills and walked back to her room. . Oh my God! I totally forgot about my job. I checked the time and it was 2:00pm. I picked my phone and called Mr Wilson..He answered the call at the third ring. " Good afternoon sir. I'm sorry I had to leave in a rush" I said. " Oh it's fine. How is your mother now?" He asked. I sighed in relief and replied " She's stable now." " Thank God. If the need arises, you can take a leave for a few days." He said. " It's not necessary sir. I'll be at work tomorrow." I said. " Okay. Bye for now" He said and he hung up. Thank God he's nice. I can't imagine getting fired for negligence. I shuddered at the thought. I also called Mrs Daniels to thank her for bringing Mom to the hospital. Mom was discharged an hour later and we went home. ___________________________________________________________ This chapter is dedicated to every first born daughters shouldering the responsibility of their families.
