Chapter 9 - The son returns.

Kyan’s Pov: 4 days previous. I loved this hotel, I loved the island, all the homes belonged to ones that had spent years helping this place to become the safe and remote haven it is, away from everyone else that wasn’t our kind. The couple that ran everything here was actually once human, but at the age of thirteen, after spending years of being beaten to a pulp by his alcoholic father, Donny found himself wandering the streets alone, when he finally left his home. He happened to stumble across a young girl, Marina, who didn’t look much older than him. They became the best of friends and when he learned that she was in fact a vampire and so were her parents who had taken him into their home and cared for him, he pleaded with them to turn him. They waited until he was twenty-one, turned him and he married and lived his life with Marina, his best friend. But over the years, Donny wanted to get as far away from humans as possible, so both he and Marina left and found this incredible island in the middle of the Indian ocean. Once word got out, more and more of my kind flocked to this place, either to live or just for a rest. The more I came here though, the more I planned on staying permanently. I know my father wasn’t keen on Zekan taking his place with that f*****g Lyra beside him, but I didn’t want the title of Lord! I had nothing there, no real reason to stay. I hated sharing land with humans and their constant snobbery of thinking they were somehow superior to us, which is f*****g laughable! We were the misfits, the ones who deserved to die, even though they’re a pathetic race who can’t keep their s**t together and kill whatever they don’t know or understand. I took another sip of my whisky with my fellow friends, some new, some old. One’s that passed by just as I did. “Kyan, there’s a phone call for you”. The man at the bar called out and I hesitantly got up, already knowing who would be on the other end of the line. It was only him that ever called me here. “Yes Brother”. I sighed down the phone as I picked it up. “I know you don’t want me to call, but you know father and I need you here. He would feel much better if you were with us”. “I’m sure you can handle things”. “Brother!” he replied, rather irritated. “You know we have others lurking around. Ones that are not with us. If they do anything in Blue-bay, you know the humans will come for us. We need you back in case something happens”. “Zekan, I’ve barely been here fourteen days and you already want me to come back?” He sighed. “Look, come home, we’ll try to figure out who it is, but if we don’t and nothing comes of it, then you can leave and you have my word, I won’t contact you again unless their boarders have been breached”. “For f**k’s sake Zekan!”. “I’m asking you, not just for me, but for father too”. Great! The father card! I hummed in my head as I rolled my eyes. “I’ll think about it!” “Please do, brother”. Of course, the moment I put the phone down, I already knew what my decision was. I paid for my tab, collected all my stuff from my room and booked the next ship home. Standing on the ship's main deck, I was already dreading my decision, before I could even see the land come into view. I didn’t leave just because I felt as though I hadn’t much reason to stay, it was mostly because of that f*****g human girl, who I almost risked my father’s hard-earned peace treaty for. I never should have gone to her the first day I saw her, but the fact that I actually stepped onto their land when that piece of s**t tried to force himself on her, I knew then I had to get as far away as possible. To a place where I wasn’t tempted by her scent or the way her eyes shone like diamonds on the sea. I couldn’t get to grips why I suddenly had a fascination with a mere human, but whatever it was, I had two choices, leave or let curiosity get the better of me, and I couldn’t allow the latter to happen. After three days on the ship, I finally stepped foot in our territory and rushed through the trees. As much as I wished I was still at shelter island, I just couldn’t refuse my brother and especially my father. He had always done his best for us after all. The moment I opened the doors to home, the smell of fresh meat and wined blood sunk into my senses and seeing Zekan’s relieved expression, it made it a little more worth coming home. Although I was pissed to see he still had that sly b***h sitting next to him, laughing so loud it was all I could hear, the moment the doors opened. But something was triggering me, something too familiar, the closer I got to Zekan. That smell…. That sweet fruitful smell was toying with me. How the f**k is it possible? I can recognise her scent from here? Her town is miles away! My head rambled as Zekan pulled out a chair for me, right next to his. I tried to listen to what he was saying in hushed whispers, but I couldn’t shake how her scent had already found me and I couldn’t get the flashes of her face out of my mind. As much as Lyra pisses me off, at least her little tyrant episode distracted me for a moment from my own rambling. As much as I don’t like humans, I wouldn’t stand for them being mistreated whilst in our walls. Much like my father, we’d only act against those that acted against us and from what I could see of that young human, dressed in those awful clothes that were way too big for her, she definitely wouldn’t lift a finger to go against us. Besides, just the way Lyra sits there like she’s already queen of the f*****g castle makes me want to rip out her throat myself! I can happily admit, I did enjoy the way she shut her mouth when I scolded her for her treatment toward the human. But the thumping of my fist on the table was more out of frustration, that already my mind was occupied with the Blue-Bay girl. I ended the evening early, leaving the rest of them to drink their wine. Tired from the travelling and hoping that once I wake in the morning, I wouldn’t be able to smell her scent that seemed to have floated the long distance from her home to mine, just to piss me off even more about being back here. I can’t, I absolutely cannot go near that f*****g town! Find out what’s going on and get the hell out of here! No f**k ups! Do not see her! She’s just a dumb human, nothing more!.
