Becoming Luna

The packhouse buzzed with whispers the morning after Aria learned the truth about her parents. Everywhere she walked, wolves turned to stare — some in awe, some in confusion, but none with the disdain she was used to. She wasn’t invisible anymore. She wasn’t the servant girl in the shadows. She was the Silver Wolf. The Moon’s Daughter. And Kai’s mate. But with recognition came pressure. Kai met her outside the packhouse, dressed in training gear. His eyes softened the moment he saw her. “You didn’t sleep,” he said quietly. Aria shook her head. “Too much on my mind.” He stepped closer, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. His touch was warm, gentle — grounding. “Then we’ll figure it out together.” Their eyes held for a moment too long, that familiar heat stirring between them. Aria finally looked away, breath quickening. Kai cleared his throat and nodded toward the training ground. “Come on. If you’re going to step into your role, you deserve proper training. Real training.” Aria followed, nerves buzzing. The field was alive with warriors sparring, shifting, and preparing for what the pack feared would be another attack. Alpha Rowan stood waiting. He studied her with a mixture of curiosity and respect. “Aria,” he said, “your wolf is powerful. But power without control is dangerous.” Aria nodded, swallowing her anxiety. “I’m ready.” The training began. At first, it was overwhelming. Dodging attacks. Learning how to channel her wolf’s instincts without losing herself to them. Her wolf pulsed beneath her skin, eager to burst free. Kai never left her side. Whenever her strength faltered, he caught her. Whenever doubt crept in, he whispered encouragement. Whenever frustration boiled over, he steadied her with his presence alone. During a short break, she leaned against a tree, panting. “I’m slowing you down.” Kai stepped in front of her, bracing one hand above her head, his body close — too close. “No,” he said softly. “You’re stronger than you know. You just don’t realize it yet.” Aria looked up at him. His scent — warm pine, strength, and something uniquely Kai — wrapped around her. The world seemed to narrow to just the two of them. “Kai…” Her voice trembled. He brushed his thumb along her jawline. “You don’t have to pretend with me. I feel the bond too. Every second.” Her heart thudded violently. He leaned in, slowly, giving her time to breathe, to pull away — but Aria didn’t move. She tilted toward him instinctively, drawn by a gravity she couldn’t fight. Their lips met. Soft. Warm. Deepening slowly as Kai lifted a hand to the back of her neck, pulling her closer. Aria melted into him, fingers curling into his shirt as electricity rushed down her spine. His lips were gentle at first, then more certain, more claiming. The kiss left her breathless, her knees wobbly her entire body alive with heat. When they finally broke apart, their foreheads rested together, breaths mingling. “You feel it too,” he whispered. It wasn’t a question. Aria nodded, cheeks flushed. “Yes.” A loud, angry voice shattered the moment. It was Mira. She stomped across the field, fury twisting her features. “This is a joke! She’s nothing but a nobody out of all the girls!? “ unbelievable !“ Kai stepped protectively in front of Aria, his voice low and dangerous. “Watch your mouth.” Mira laughed bitterly. “She can’t be our Luna. She doesn’t deserve it!” She couldn’t even pretend to Be one! ,Mira spat Aria lifted her chin. For the first time, her voice didn’t shake. “I’m not trying to replace anyone. I’m trying to protect this pack — the same pack that protected me.” Mira scoffed, but Alpha Rowan’s voice cut through the tension. “The Luna title is earned through strength of heart and spirit. If Aria wishes to take her rightful place beside her mate, she will undergo the Luna Trials.” The training field fell silent. Aria’s breath hitched. “Luna Trials?” “Yes,” Rowan said. “Three ancient tests. Few pass them. Even fewer survive.” Kai turned sharply. “Father—she’s not ready—” Aria touched his arm gently. “I have to be.” Kai looked at her, torn between fear and pride. Rowan gave a single nod. “Then tomorrow, we begin the trials .” As the pack dispersed, Kai stayed by Aria’s side, gripping her hand tightly. “Aria… you don’t have to prove anything to this pack. Not to me.” She stared at him, determination solidifying in her chest. “I have to prove it to myself. To honor my parents. To become the Luna I was born to be.” Kai pulled her into his arms, holding her against his chest. She melted into the warmth of him, her cheek pressed to his heartbeat — strong, steady, hers. “I’ll be with you every step,” he murmured. “You’re not doing this alone.” Aria closed her eyes, breathing him in. For the first time in her life, she felt powerful. Wanted. Protected. Loved. And tomorrow, she would start earning the future destiny had written for her.
