"Are you really going to accept this child?" Madison's voice dripped with mockery.
Chloe shot back coldly, "Since you think I won't accept her wholeheartedly, then why did you force me to adopt her in the first place? Was it your grand plan to have someone else take my place from the beginning?"

"Lower your voice, you're scaring the child." Chloe tightened her hold on the baby, gently soothing her. The little one snuggled into her arms, and seeing the affection between them, Madison's face twisted in fury.
