The schools dull gray walls seemed to have an incredible ability to suck the life out of people, no matter how many bad paintings the art kid's tried to cover them with. I just so happened to be staring at a fish, well a salmon. It had surprisingly good perspective. People chattered away all around me, probably talking about gossip I didn't really care about. Who's dating who, how Selena (who the hell is Selena?) was having a party at her house this weekend. I wonder how much meaningless gossip that fish has heard over the years? I felt a tap on my shoulder

"Ren? Renatta?"

that was my name. I turned around to see James Carter, but redder. He was blushing, which for some reason caused his freckles to turn a very dark red instead of the usual light brownish color. "hmm? What's up?"

Somehow he got redder, I don't know how but he did.

"Ummmm- d- c- would you go to Selena's party with me?!" James asked, he gave Eminem a run for his money once he stopped stuttering.

Seriously who the hell is- wait did he really just say THAT?! As in together?! like a couple?! I could taste the awkwardness. wait how long have I been thinking?

in a sudden moment of verbal diarrhea.

"YES."

I said it. It was not graceful, it was not beautiful, it was however a fight or flight response and I was about to punch that son of b***h in the face. Oh Christ I said it. James turned redder, I turned redder. Some how over the sounds of my internal screaming I heard him spit out a sentence.

"OH s**t YEAH."

really that's the best you can come up with?! wait why am I playing along with this I want NO part in this OH GOD HELP ME!

"S-sorry that was really a-a really awkward thing to say. I- I'll text you later!" he almost yelled awkwardly. Then he just turned around and ran. He said nothing else, he just ran.

There I was, laying on my bed staring at the celling thinking about how today's events had transpired. Did I just get a boyfriend? I don't want a boyfriend! I've never even had a crush on anyone...

my phone buzzed at me, I looked at it, it was James.

MISSION ACQUIRED - tea and Netflix

I opened my door and walked down the hall to the kitchen to find my mother eating some form of chocolate. Hazelnut? I've been told I look a lot like my mother actually, Dark brown hair that's almost black, pale skin dotted with freckles and moles. Though unlike my mother I have bright blue eyes, glasses and the ends of my hair colored blue.

"Hey kiddo, you feelin okay?" she inquired, a slightly concerned look on her face.

"I'm fine." I said, walking past and turning on a half full kettle and getting a mug from the cupboard.

"Well okay." I think what she really meant was, "I can smell your bullshit from a mile away." she continued to prod "how was school?"

why does water take so long to boil? "It was good, actually I have something to ask you."

my mom nodded. "can I umm, go to a party this weekend?" I continued

She raised her eyebrows, "You want to interact with other humans?!" she smirked "it's fine with me just stay safe and don't do anything to crazy."

It's really not to surprising she sounded so happy. I really don't get out of the house much, I spend most of my time at home. If I do go out it's to meet up with my two whole friends.

"thanks, mom."

She smiled at me, returning to her chocolate. I want chocolate. why did I say yes? I mean, really? He's cute I guess, he has nice eye's dark brown, with hair to match. I've known him for a long time too we were pretty good friends a point, but a boyfriend? Hell even going to a party as a couple sounds weird.

the kettle clicked and I poured myself a cup of tea, and slunk back into my bedroom. Staring at my blank phone screen sitting on my bedside chair (it's weird but it works). I grabbed my laptop off my desk and set my tea down. After much searching I landed on a series called Violet Evergarden. It's gonna be a long week.
