CHAPTER 26
Jack had a very busy day ahead. A conference call with the lawyers on the Consolidated and PetroMark contracts and then a staff meeting with the election team to discuss the next steps in the Lindsay Revelle for Congress campaign. And that was just the morning schedule.
On his way to work, Jack picked up Maya early enough for a trip to Brown’s Bagels for a quick breakfast before dropping her off at school.
“Hi, Daddy,” she said half-heartedly as she got into the back seat.
“You sound sad.”
“It’s just that I miss having you home all the time,” she confessed.
“I know, but you know I can’t live with you and Mommy anymore. You have two homes now, and one has a dog!” Jack was trying his best to make her feel better. It wasn’t working.
“I know” was her sad response.
