CHAPTER 7 (13 days left)

(DAVE’S POV) After the conversation with Maggie, I remained in my study working my accounts and company till thin rays of sunlight streamed in through my window and onto my desk. Time had gone by so quickly and i could not help but groan as I realized that I had not been able to get to sleep. It was not like I was not sleepy ,but I knew that deep down, I was not too sure about going to share the same bed with Maggie. It was a little awkward for me especially since she did not seem so keen on the idea. Not that she had a damn choice though. There was no way we could sleep in different rooms, what the f**k did that mean? How would we get into character if we did not stay together. I knew that I was just confused about it because no girl would want to throw away such an opportunity but Maggie looked like she was forcing herself to do it and that bothered me. Maybe she had a boyfriend even though I thought against it and trust me it was not just because of her ugly clothes even though that was definitely a good reason. Or maybe it was because of the label I was now given. The bankrupt billionaire who had been humiliated and dumped. But when I had placed my finger on her skin tracing her face, I had felt her shiver and so that meant that I had some kind of effect on her. So what was the problem, why was she not jumping to be with me? It was all confusing. I stopped thinking of Maggie and I decided I would go down to the kitchen and ask Grey my Chef to make me something nice and I could have breakfast on the balcony the way I loved to. I was hungry anyway and by something nice, I meant my usual breakfast of omelettes. I was getting close to the kitchen when I heard voices. I rolled my eyes already assuming it was Tyler in the kitchen. That was all he knew how to do,Eat and make noise. I got ready to give him a sarcastic greeting. I pushed the door open a little and from where I was I could see Grey standing and laughing. And then I heard something strange, the voice of a woman. Well I’ll be damned! I stepped a little further into the Kitchen and then I saw Maggie with a bright face laughing and talking to Grey. They didn’t notice me walk in and so I had little time to briefly observe them till they finally noticed me. Maggie, (don’t get me started on whatever she was wearing. Was that a skirt?) looking bright and fresh had her hair pulled back in a ponytail and her eyes looked very bright. What time was it? 7.00? She was cutting up something with a knife and on a chopping board. Grey on the other hand dressed in his usual white shirt and black pants is eating an apple slice by slice and with a tiny knife. He was leaned against the counter and he looked so laid back. They are both engrossed in a light and obviously humorous conversation. Maggie said something to Grey and he burst out laughing hard and that was when he saw me. He stopped laughing immediately, straightened his posture while clearing his throat and putting his hands behind him as a way to hide the apple he had been eating. “Mr Wayne, Good morning.” He said giving a slight bow and averting my eyes. Maggie on the other hand turned to see me and then just stopped laughing. Then she took her gaze back to what she was chopping. I felt confused. Did she just sort of ignore me or what? Was she angry with me? Was she shy? Because it looked like she just somehow ignored me even though our eyes had just met each other. “What’s going on here?” I asked folding my arms and looking at the both of them “Well the Miss is um making breakfast for us, sir.” Of course those words don’t just flow out of the mouth of Grey effortlessly. His gaze is mostly focused on his shoes than my face. He is worried he might have offended me and I know that. Well did he? I’m not sure but for Maggie she is very well getting on my nerves by acting like I was not in the kitchen. Not even acknowledging my presence. What the f**k! She just keeps chopping up the vegetables carefully and focusing on it. “Maggie.” I say finally unable to take her ignoring me anymore, she turns to me with her chin stuck up and her beautiful lips set in a straight thin line. “Morning Mr- Dave.” She narrowed her eyes slightly because of the mistake she had just made now. “Can I see you aside for a sec?” I asked turning to leave the kitchen. “I’ll be done with this for-” she started saying but I did not let her finish m. “Grey can handle that.” I cut in walking out and hoping that she followed me behind. She did and when she stood before me those eyes made me swallow the string of words I had ready for her. What kind of charming eyes did this woman have? She folded her arms at me and I noticed she seemed to be glaring. Well I’ll be damned! She was actually angry at me. “Is something wrong?” I demanded angry that I was asking her that instead of scolding her for going down to the kitchen to make breakfast. She turned sideways first and then released her arms that had been folded across her chest and looking more relaxed than she had been looking. “What you said to me hours ago.” She said to me pouting like a spoilt child whose lollipop was taken from her. “What did I say to you?” I asked her throwing my hands up. So, she was indeed angry. She looked at me with disbelief as if surprised that I had forgotten. I retraced my mind back to the early hours of this morning when I was in the room with her. And then realization hit me. I burst into laughter. And her annoyance showed clearly on her face. “What’s so funny?” She asked angrily her arms still folded across her chest. “Don’t tell me you didn’t have a good night sleep because you kept thinking of tonight. When you wouldn’t be alone. But with me.” I said moving closer to her. She moved backwards looking uncomfortable. “Or you just can’t wait.” I went closer to her. “Mr Wayne.” She blurted out and I paused. “You need to get that straight. You’re my girlfriend you can’t keep calling me Mr Wayne. Just like Grey does.” I said “Except you plan on becoming my cook instead.” I added in sarcasm but she outrightly ignored that comment. “I know.” She said straight up to me. “But I can’t start playing this role well if you keep making me uncomfortable.” I stopped. It felt nice the way she was blunt to me. Simple, straight and clear. I was also intrigued that she did not look forward to being with me. In fact if I was being totally honest, my ego was bruised. This was what my mind had been set on not long ago. Why the f**k she did not want to be with me. Maybe she thought I was worthless because I had just been dumped and was said to be bankrupt everywhere. Yeah I might just have to go with reason number two. “Fine, I’ll stop making you uncomfortable.” I said and was surprised by how calm my voice sounded and so unfamiliar. “Whatever.” I repeated again. “Well, well, well, You both should get a room.” I heard Tyler’s voice come from behind me. Maggie gasped startled and moved backwards looking terribly embarrassed. I rolled my eyes before evening turning around and then when I did, I saw that Tyler was wearing one of those his annoying smirks and he was also still in his ruffled clothes and with a smirk on his face. “Shut up, Tyler.” I said to him and he laughed “Now. There is the man I know.” He said in a mocking tone. “ I thought I heard you laughing not too long ago. I almost had a heart attack out of shock.” He looked past my shoulder and to Maggie who was somewhat peering. “Good morning.” He said smiling at Maggie as he nodded. I wanted to wipe that smile off his face. “Good morning.” She replied smiling as she fell into step beside me. “I’ll go back and see if breakfast is done.” She cast me a quick glance and went back into the kitchen. Shit! I didn’t get to tell her to leave the cooking for the Chef. “She knows what a kitchen is?” Tyler said coming forward with wide eyes. I rolled my eyes at him. But what he said sunk into head and that was when I thought that I had never had a woman step in to my kitchen before . Maggie was the first. I needed to have a word with her. “You have a lot to tell me Dave. Who is she? What’s she doing here?” He said still starring at the door of the kitchen which Maggie had used. I wanted to smack his attention away. “Well then, come on.” I said heading back to my study. He did not say anything, simply followed me behind. Maggie seemed to be driving my head into nuts, telling Tyler about it all would be a good way to calm down and also to get started on my plans of revenge. Because this was all so confusing in my head.
