breaking up is hard to do

The water was turned up as hot as it could be without actually burning her skin. RickyJo enjoyed the feel of it sluicing down over her naked body as she scrubbed at the roots of her hair with her fingers. Her shampoo smelled like oranges and she tried her very best not to let it remind her of how her mate smelled. He smells so good though! “Shuddup Jade! Or we’re never gonna get out of this freaking shower,” she said, speaking the words out loud since she was alone in her bathroom. That’s a good point. Hurry your ass up, our mate is waiting for us downstairs! “What the hell do you think I’m doing?,” she asked, trying to hold back her laughter. RickyJo stuck her head under the water, rinsing the suds out as fast as she could before she grabbed her conditioner and started slathering it into the lengths of her hair. While that sat in, she ran a razor over her legs and underarms. Then she put one foot up on the edge of the tub and shaved between her legs, making sure everything was baby smooth except for the tiny little strip of hair on her mound. That’s right, get ready. Jade growled her approval of their personal grooming, not being shy about bombarding her human counterpart with images of their mate’s head between her legs. I’ll ride his face like a bull at the rodeo. “Jade! Knock it off. We’re just having lunch. I barely even know him.” Then what did you just shave your p***y for? He was made just for us. He’s perfect. What else do you need to know? “I don’t know. Just shut up for a minute with all the horny s*x stuff. I can’t f*****g think straight with all that in my head.” She couldn’t think straight. She couldn’t even get through the simple routine of showering. She couldn’t do s**t. All she could think about was him. RickyJo stuck her head back under the water, rinsing the conditioner out before she reached up and grabbed the shower head. “Forget it. Just show me the rodeo thing,” she told her wolf. Jade perked right up, being more than happy to fill their head with a series of pornographic images. RickyJo set her foot back up on the edge of the tub and closed her eyes, aiming the shower head at her swollen c**t. She could see Jade’s desires, which were really hers as well, since they shared one mind. Her knees were positioned on either side of her mate’s shaved head and she was leaning forward over his body. As he ravaged her p***y with his mouth and fingers, she swirled her tongue around the head of his d**k. It wasn’t long before she was bracing her hand against the tiled wall of the shower, trying to keep herself upright as her orgasm coursed through her body. That’s more like it. “Okay, we got off. Now chill out and let me get ready,” RickyJo ordered. Jade curled up into a ball and closed her glowing green eyes. She wasn’t really asleep. But for the moment, at least she was silent. RickyJo got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her body. She ripped a brush through her hair and wrapped it up in a second towel while she brushed her teeth. When she stepped back into her bedroom, she was assaulted by the smell of pink lemonade. “Laney!,” she gasped. “You scared the s**t outta me! How did you even get in here?” The other woman was sitting in her bed, her eyes already red-rimmed from crying. “Were you even going to bother telling me?,” she asked. RickyJo sighed. So much happened so fast. She felt bad, but breaking up with Laney hadn’t even crossed her mind. In fact, the woman hadn’t crossed her mind at all. She forgot Laney even existed until the woman suddenly turned up in her bedroom. “I’m sorry you didn’t hear it from me first,” RickyJo said, adjusting the towel around her middle. “...I found my mate.” Laney’s eyes filled with a fresh burst of tears. RickyJo felt a pang of sympathy for the woman. She cared for her. Maybe even loved her. But all those feelings just seemed to melt away the moment she met her mate. That was just how it worked for wolves. None of this should be coming as a shock to Laney. “You can’t really be thinking about accepting him?,” Laney asked. “That ancient beat up alpha? He’s old enough to be your dad.” RickyJo took a deep breath, willing Jade back. Her wolf growled inside her mind, baring her teeth with her hackles up. No one insulted their mate and got away with it. But RickyJo understood her former lover was just hurt and upset. She was sure she might feel the same if Laney found her mate first. Though she would like to think that she would have been happy for her. Everyone deserved the true happiness that came with finding their fated mate. “I know he’s older,” RickyJo said, sitting down on her bed but leaving some space between her and the other she-wolf. “...and I think the moon goddess was wise to bless me with a mate that has the patience to deal with my bullshit.” RickyJo wasn’t stupid. She knew a younger wolf wouldn’t have the self-restraint to deal with her. Most wolves mated and marked their mates within minutes of finding them. If she refused, she would have been rejected or even worse, forced. “When you find your mate, you’ll understand,” RickyJo said, giving Laney a soft sad smile. “I already found my mate!,” Laney cried, bursting into tears. “...A year ago. I rejected him for you!” RickyJo’s eyes widened, her mouth falling open in shock. It wasn’t totally unusual for a wolf to reject their fated mate. But usually it was because they had already mated and marked a chosen mate. And maybe even had children with them. But an unmated wolf rejecting their fated mate was unheard of. “What?,” RickyJo asked, unable to believe her ears. “Why would you do that?” “I’m in love with you!,” Laney sobbed. “I thought you were going to take over the pack and name me as your chosen luna.” Laney choked back another round of tears, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. “My mate was some omega from Little River. Kitchen staff. He wasn’t even a pack warrior. Why would I accept him when I could stay here and be your luna?” “You rejected your mate because he had a crappy job?,” RickyJo asked, her voice full of disbelief and shock. She knew Laney could be selfish and demanding at times. But to reject your chosen mate because he worked in a kitchen was the ultimate petty move. And she was starting to question if Laney’s feelings for her were even real or if the woman just wanted to be with her because she was set to inherit the pack once her grandfather stepped down. “That’s easy for you to say, you’re mated to the alpha of the biggest pack in the state,” Laney huffed. “Didn’t you just tell me to reject him?,” RickyJo asked. She held her hand up before the woman had a chance to respond. That question was rhetorical. She didn’t actually want an answer. Get rid of this b***h before I do it for you! RickyJo hated it when Jade yelled inside her head. But this time, she was right. She crossed the room and opened her bedroom door. Then she pointed out into the hall, the direction she wanted Laney to go. Which at the moment was whatever direction would get the woman away from her. “Please leave,” she added when Laney didn’t move from her spot on the bed. Instead, she buried her face in her hands and started sobbing. RickyJo felt herself pushed back to the rear of her mind as Jade pushed forward. Her eyes began to glow as she crossed the room and seized Laney by the arm. You heard her! Time to go! Jade yanked Laney up off the bed and walked her over to the doorway. She shoved the woman out into the hall, slamming the door in her face and locking it. “How long have you been waiting to do that?,” RickyJo asked, laughing at the satisfied smile on Jade’s face. A long f*****g time!
