"No, of course, you cannot leave here Princess..." A voice interrupted.
I jump from my seat and face that voice. It was no surprise when I saw Lazarus with his usually stoic face.
"Are you planning something again, Elena?"
I was shocked when a cup of tea flew toward Lazarus' face—but I am more surprised when it stops in the air!
What the hell is happening!? Elena stood up and glare at Lazarus.
Elena gritted her teeth. "Planning something? I asked you to take care of my friend, Lazarus! But what the hell did I hear? She took her life?!" Then she laughs in disbelief.
I am quite shocked by the change in the atmosphere. It was calm and solemn—not until Lazarus entered the picture. Elena looks like going to scratch Lazarus' face in anger.
"It's that even my fault? I didn't want Genevierre to do that, sister—"
"All of you, leave!" Elena shouted to the ladies and her men. I am more surprised when they just oblige without any words or hesitation.
So Elena holds a power that much? Oh, she is also a queen!
I gulped and move a bit to the corner. I... don't want to get hit too.
"You didn't attend your engagement party, Lazarus! I told you to be kind with her—"
"I am being kind." Lazarus didn't show any fear on his face.
Lazarus even dare to take the glass of tea and sip from it!
If I were in his place, I will just beg on my knees and ask for forgiveness... But Lazarus is just provoking his sister even more!
Elena raised her finger. "You are not kind enough."
"What can I do, Elena? I also told her I give what I want! I just didn't attend the engagement! It was just for formality but we all know at the end of the night—without my presence, the marriage will still proceed!" Lazarus reason.
My eyebrows shot up. Really?
Elena breathes in. She is trying to control her anger with Lazarus.
"How dare you say that in front of the princess?" Elena murmured. But I can sense the danger in her voice.
Why are they fighting early in the morning? Elena can ask peacefully—and for Lazarus, he can shut up his mouth to stop the chaos! He is putting gas into the fire instead of stopping it!
"You asked for it, Elena. What do you expect me to say? Genevierre knows me. She can also understand—"
"Lazarus! Stop your filthy mouth! You are being disrespectful!" Elena hissed.
I took a step backward. God... the tension is suffocating me.
"I am not being disrespectful. I am just answering your question," he reasoned out again.
I was surprised when a knife flew in Lazarus' way—but he manage to dodge it.
"Father will kill us if he will know about this."
Elena laughed in annoyance. "You are not taking this matter seriously, Lazarus! Genevierre took her life because of the stress in the palace—"
"If she can go, then the door is open..." He answered and looked at me. "If she can do that."
I feel insulted by what he said even though I don't have any idea what the hell is he talking about.
"Stop being disrespectful again Lazarus. Don't make me report your behavior to the King. As a queen of Ramon, I don't accept your behavior to the Princess!"
Lazarus shook his head. "Why did you come here? To see her or scold me?"
"I came back here to do both, fool!" Elena screamed. "And why she can't leave here?"
"Oh. We know why Elena. It's because of the Aristocrats that's why she cannot move or leave here..."
Elena stilled.
The Aristocrats again?
"So stop giving Genevierre a false hope about leaving. That will never happen because she is bound to be a toy to the Aristocrats..." Lazarus said in remorse.
My mouth opened. That feels... rude. For unknown reasons, my heart was sunken. I feel hurt. This is not my life—but why do I feel hurt and insulted by Lazarus' words?
"I told you, she didn't choose to be like that, Lazarus! Aside from that, she is different! She is kind and genuine—"
"I don't like genuine people from Aristocrats, Elena. I don't like history repeating itself. It's obvious—"
"Stop! She just woke up from a long sleep, Lazarus! I will tell Father about this behavior... and regret your choice of words!"
Lazarus doesn't look threatened at all! I jumped when he shifted his glance toward me.
He smirked.
"Like I've said... I don't care about what his father going to say. I obey him well, my dear sister. So don't be angry for nothing." Lazarus sighed and shook his head calmly.
"But you cannot tell me to respect her, Elena. Someone said that respect should be earned and not asked or ordered..." then Lazarus smirked at me.
I gulped. Wow, how dare he connects what I've said last night in this context? And hello, he is just being a plain jerk!
"Who said that!?" Elena shouted again.
"E-Elena," I called her. "Don't... talk to him anymore. He is just spitting unimportant things... we don't need to hear."
"Yes! Yes! Don't worry I will yell at him more—What?!" Elena was confused after I told her that.
Lazarus shot his brows up. The amusement in his eyes lingers again.
Elena gather her gown in front of her and hurried into me. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
"Did I hear that correct? Do you want to... stop this?"
I nod my head.
"Stop... convincing him. It will lead us to nothing. So I suggest... we should take our breakfast again in... somewhere peaceful? Without him?"
"Oh my god, brother! What did you do to her?!" Elena said in horror.
I panic. What does she mean by that?
"Why don't you want him to get scolded?" Elena asked again. "Is it because you don't care anymore?"
I accidentally nod my head as a reflex. It was my answer but it was too late for me to realize that it was weird!
Elena covers his lips in shock. While I am still nervous.
Did I do something wrong!?
