Past

Through every sad memory,

Through every hard mile,

Still, we are able to crack a smile.

Even in our differences,

Even in our terrible fights,

We are always capable of seeing those bright lights.

We might not come from the same blood,

Or from the same town,

But we are as close as family without a frown.

You chose me to be your friend,

And I see you as a brother,

Hope we will stay this close without a bother.

Even when enemies are against us...

I hope we will stand strong.

And hope we stay grand palls forever,

Because we are super awesome and crazy together.

Thanks for being in my life,

Thanks for being a friend,

Hopefully, it can last till the end.

Present

She wonders how Robby is doing. He was one of her good friends in grade 10. Unfortunately, he had to move back to Vereeniging, last year. He was like a brother to her. Their friendship has come a long way. She nearly committed suicide after nearly losing their friendship. At that moment, it was too much for her to handle. But they both survived afterward.

"Athene, are you finished with your assignment?" Ms Voster asked, her Tourism teacher.

"Almost, just give me 5 more minutes please." she replied while getting back to reality.

-The bell rang for the next period-

Saved by the bell, now she has Architectural Drawing next. Mr Steyn is considered to be her favorite teacher, while her favorite subject was English.

"Right class the task for the day is, to finish yesterday's work, so we can all leave early to go home." was all Mr Steyn had to say while everyone took their seats.

"Hi, Athene, How have you been?"the very familiar voice asked.

Athene's POV

Right remember that boy I got a broken heart from in grade 10. He was my biggest crush yet, but his words hurt me badly. Yes, his name is Bennie, and he is the familiar voice who is greeting me. I wonder what he wants. We have not spoken since 10th grade.

"Hi, I suppose it has been good thanks and with you?" I answered awkwardly.

Like, is he sure he wants to talk to the girl who he claimed smelled so bad and had dirty hair?

"All good, can't complain, listen. I wanted to know if I could maybe get your number?"

O wow and he wants the dirty girl's number. That truly is surprising.

"My number? Why?" I had to ask.

"Yes please, look, I know all the bad that happened, but I want that to stay in the past."

I looked up at the time and saw the bell would be ringing in 2 minutes, so I tore a piece of paper out of my book and gave him my number on it. Just to see where this will lead to.

No one's POV

As she was on her way walking to the shelter, she saw Leo sitting under a tree waiting for her.

"Aww were you waiting for me?" She asked with a giggle.

"Of course I could not let you walk all by yourself now, can I?" He said with a smirk, while looking at her legs with his, You look sexy look.

While they were walking, Athene told him all about her day and about Bennie asking her number out of the blue. Leo did look interested in her talking except about the boy wanting her number. As they stood outside the shelter, Leo grabbed Athene's hand. He seemed very serious about his follow-up question. "Athene, I really want to do something, but I don't want to scare you off?"

Athene's POV

I understand why he would think that. Leo always reminded me of that bad f**k boy you normally read about in books. The one all-girls fall for, but he only takes what he wants and leaves them... He would be that type to break hearts. That's the vibe I got, but I hardly know him that well to judge. But I have never met a bad boy type before. Maybe I should experiment a bit.

"I am going to tell you this once and only once, especially with me. If you want something, take it. See what the risk of taking it will lead to." Wow, I sound really confident and a badass.

He looked at me for a few seconds, then grabbed me by my waist and kissed me gently, but I pushed him away the moment I felt his tongue.

"I am sorry, but you told me..."

" I know what I said, you just took me by surprise with your tongue, that is all" I interrupted him. And kissed him again. The kiss felt so good, and he tasted so delicious, and here I thought you only read about these types of kisses in books...

-20 minutes after making out and playing pool-

I realized while having a smoke I still liked Bennie, and I could not allow these feelings for Leo. He could really break everything I have left.

"Listen Leo, what ever we have going is all good, but can we like only be friends with benefits? I love kissing and everything but still like someone else. But also, the benefits go as far as making out, no sex." I really would not want to break my virginity just yet.

"That works with me, and to be clear, I love kissing you too, and would never push the limit on sex."

" Thanks for the understanding, you are the best. But also remember, as soon as I am in a relationship, it ends." Just to clarify.

"I know, I get it. No stress." He answered, so chilled.

I take my last pull at my cigarette, to continue with homework. If I can just finish school and get a job, then I can get my dad and I out of here. It won't be easy but I have to. He is all I have. I still have Nora, I suppose. She is my sister, but since everything went down she only calls me or my dad to go out drinking and then ignore us for like a month. And I am still mad. She never apologized for kicking me out like a dog in 7th grade. She knew I had nowhere to go, and she was drunk that night with her husband while doing so. It always seemed amusing to me, how I always apologize when we fight and she could never. Like she was too good for me or something. We usually see eye to eye, but now and then we differ.
