CHAPTER SEVEN

819 Words
Alvin had always been the kind of person who put his heart into everything he did. From his early school days to his budding career, he was dedicated to achieving his dreams. However, as he climbed the corporate ladder, his work schedules became increasingly demanding. Meetings piled up, deadlines loomed, and the once manageable workload transformed into a relentless torrent of responsibilities. Amidst this whirlwind, one person began to feel the weight of his absence—Stella. Stella had been Alvin's childhood friend, the girl next door who had grown up alongside him. Their bond had always been special, blossoming from innocent playdates to the deeper affection of young love. Yet, as Alvin's career took off, he found himself consumed by work, leaving little room for the relationship that once brought him joy. Stella, with her sparkling eyes and warm smile, became a fading memory in the backdrop of his busy life. She tried to be understanding, often telling herself that it was just a phase, that Alvin would eventually find a balance. But as weeks turned into months, her patience began to wear thin. The emotional toll was evident; she felt neglected, invisible, and alone. Concerned for their daughter, Stella's parents decided it was time to intervene. They had watched the toll Alvin's absence took on Stella, and they couldn't sit idly by any longer. They reached out to Alvin's parents, suggesting a family meeting to discuss the situation. Reluctantly, Alvin agreed, unaware of the storm that was about to unfold. On the day of the meeting, tension filled the air as both families gathered. Stella's parents, dignified and composed, exchanged worried glances with Alvin's parents, who appeared more concerned about their son's future than the emotional state of their daughter's best friend. As everyone settled into the living room, the atmosphere was thick with unspoken words. Stella sat quietly, her heart racing, while Alvin fidgeted, unsure of what to say. Finally, Stella's father broke the silence. "Alvin, we need to talk about Stella. She’s been feeling increasingly lonely with your busy schedule. We want to understand what's going on." Alvin shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his mind racing. He knew he had been distant, but the truth weighed heavily on him. How could he explain that his heart no longer belonged to Stella? After a moment of hesitation, he took a deep breath and spoke, "I appreciate your concern, but I need to be honest. I don't love Stella anymore. My heart belongs to someone else—Sophia." Gasps erupted from both families. Stella's face fell, her heart shattering at the revelation. Alvin's parents exchanged horrified looks, their expressions a mix of disbelief and disappointment. "Sophia?" his mother questioned, her voice laced with incredulity. "But she's from a poor background! You can't be serious, Alvin." The room erupted into chaos as Alvin's father chimed in, "You must marry Stella! She's been your friend since childhood, and her family is wealthy. This union would benefit both families immensely. You can't throw that away for someone like Sophia!" Stella's heart raced as she listened to the arguments. She felt like a pawn in a game of chess, her emotions disregarded for the sake of business and social status. "But what about love?" she finally spoke, her voice trembling. "What about what Alvin wants?" Alvin looked at her, pain etched across his face. "Stella, I never wanted to hurt you. You know that. But I can't marry you just because it's convenient for our families. I love Sophia." The tension in the room escalated as the families clashed over the matter. Stella's parents argued for the importance of love and emotional connection, while Alvin's parents insisted on the practicality of the situation. The debate raged on, with neither side willing to back down. As the evening wore on, Alvin felt trapped between two worlds. He loved Sophia, a girl who brought light into his life in ways he never thought possible. They had met at a community event, where her passion for art and her kind spirit had captivated him. But now, he was faced with the suffocating pressure of family expectations, and the weight of their disappointment was almost unbearable. Days turned into weeks, and the conflict only intensified. Stella, heartbroken and feeling betrayed, began to distance herself from Alvin. She poured herself into her studies and her family business, trying to distract herself from the pain. Meanwhile, Alvin found himself caught in a whirlwind of emotions, torn between his love for Sophia and the loyalty he felt towards Stella and their families. One evening, as he sat in his office, staring blankly at his computer screen, he received a message from Stella. “Can we talk?" it read. He wondered why Stella wants to see him bec he already stated it in the last family meeting that he his not interested in her do he ignored the text.
