It was approaching noon and the sun glared red hot shafts of light down upon Eresteid. The soldiers stationed there lounged lazily in the shade, the blistering heat making them drowsy, their limbs heavy with lethargy. The angels, with their thick skin protecting them from the heat, patrolled the borders occasionally, but nothing stirred on the wide plains. It was too hot and humid, even for the many wild creatures that usually prowled the region, and the area was eerily calm. The angels with their superior vision could see creatures stir more than two hundred metres away, and the humans felt protected enough to drop their guard for a while and take the rare opportunity to relax.
