It was approaching noon and the sun glared red hot shafts of light down upon Eresteid. The soldiers stationed there lounged lazily in the shade, the blistering heat making them drowsy, their limbs heavy with lethargy. The angels, with their thick skin protecting them from the heat, patrolled the borders occasionally, but nothing stirred on the wide plains.
