The Perfect Luna

Chapter 6

***Steven POV***

My eyes greyed over as I received a mindlink.

'Yes?' I asked

'It's time, son. Make your way to the platform. I'm going to start the announcements.' my father instructed

'I'm on my way.' I ended the mindlink

"We'll finish this later. I'm being summoned." I motioned towards the platform

"Right behind you, bro." Alex  placed a hand on my shoulder

We turned and walked towards my father who was already standing at the microphone, starting his speech.

"I hope everyone is having a wonderful time?" he asked

Cheers and applause erupted throughout the crowd.

"Good. Now that the younger pups have been taken home, we'll get to bring out some of the more refreshing drinks." he said with a wink as the crowd laughed

Alex and I were still weaving our way through the crowd. There were a few omegas who appeared with trays of drinks to walk around and serve. Alex walked over to where his father was standing, but I couldn't see Nick anywhere. I walked and stood near the stairs waiting for my cue to join my father on stage.

"I'm officially naming my son," he gestured to me "as my successor. He, along with his chosen Beta and Gamma, will take over in two years time after completion of their training."

I made my way onto the platform and took a seat on one of the three chairs on the left side, as he spoke.

"I've lead this pack for the last 18 years. We've prospered and grown tremendously in that time." he continued his speech

I'd heard this speech a thousand times so I drifted off to talk to Nix one last time before I was called to the microphone.

'Hey, Nix?' I called out to him

'Yes?' he replied

'I know you want me to chose Nick as my Gamma. I'm just wondering if we're doing the right thing? I want a strong leader as much as you but I don't feel too comfortable taking away someone's birthright.' I sighed

'She'll get over it. And Spencer will understand.' he huffed out

'Alright.' I ended the mindlink just as my father was calling me up to the podium

I stood and slowly walked over the place where my father previously stood. Looking out over the crowd, I took a deep breath.

"I, Steven Lewis, future Alpha of the Blood Moon pack will now share who will help me to lead. For my Beta, I choose Alex Clark." I announced loud and clear

Applause erupted, I watched Alex make his way towards the platform.

"For my Gamma, I choose-" I was cut off by a growl

***Unknown POV***

"Papa, how could you not have told me?" I ask, fighting back my tears

"The negotiations just began earlier this year. I thought I'd surprise you." he smiled, touching my cheek softly

He always knew just how to calm me. I don't know why it was so upsetting to be in an arranged engagement. These things were common and marrying for love was a luxury few royalty had. Time and time again, alliances were formed based on an arranged marriage. I just didn't think Spain was in need of an alliance.

"If you believe this is best, que así sea" I smile back

"Gracias, that's my girl." he hugged me before heading back out to the party

I took a few deep breaths to steady my nerves.

"You are a Princess. It is your duty to do what is right, for your country." I thought

Why doesn't that make me feel any better? Being duty bound was truly a burden, but I have no choice but to obey. The King's word was law and no one, not even the Queen was exempt.

A few more breaths and I poised myself to go back out and face my newly discovered fiancé. With every step my resolve became more concrete. If we were going to get to know each other a lot better over the next two years before marrying, we'd better start now. I would put in the effort, but I knew I'd never love him.

***Nick POV***

"Give me one of those." I stopped one of the Omegas who were serving drinks

"Forgive me, young Beta. But aren't you underaged?" she replied, withholding the tray

"Does that matter? I'm your Beta. Soon to be your Gamma. Either way, I'm over you in rank. But I'm not issuing a command, I'm asking a favor." I c****d an eyebrow at her

She seemed to think it over for a second. Of course underaged drinking wasn't allowed but the same goes for disobeying a direct order from a ranking member of the pack. I wasn't the official Gamma yet, but my bloodline afforded me a few perks.

"Yes, young Beta." she reluctantly agreed and held out the tray for me

I looked over the options and took a deep breath. Even with the overpowering scent of alcohol, something smelled faintly of pineapples and that was what I wanted to try. Finding what I was looking for, I grabbed the glass and took a big drink. Seeing a shot glass I grabbed one and downed in. It burned but I was all for it.

'What do you think you're doing?  You're really gonna risk getting drunk now?' Trey growled out

'Chill out, Trey. This isn't my first time at the rodeo.' I rolled my eyes

'But this is your first and only time to f**k it up for us if you decide to show your ass tonight.' 

'Whatever. I'm just  trying to have some fun. I'm not arguing with you.' I shoved him away to shut him up

I downed the rest of my drink and went to find Alexa. Spotting her across the party, I made my way over.

"Sup, babe?" I walked up behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist

"Hey, handsome." she giggled

"Sup, Piper?" I turned my head to look at her

"Nothing. You?" she replied

"Just waiting for the announcements to start." I began kisses Alexa's neck

She pressed herself into and moaned low. I took that as my cue to up my game. I gently took her earlobe in my mouth and gave it a nibble.

"Mmm, baby, you don't know what you're doing to me right now." I whispered in her ear

"And that's my cue to go find Kyle. Bye." Piper said with mock disgust and a laugh "Later Lex."

As she walked away I spun Alexa around and immediately captured her mouth. She moaned into my kiss. I could feel myself getting hard just tasting her lips.

'You're gonna piss off Jason. This is a family event, remember?' Trey warned

'F**k off.'  I put him in a cage to shut him up

"Let's get out of here, Lex. We could be back before your dad even starts." I nipped her lip

"Nick, have you been drinking? We can't leave. So we'd better stop."

"Just a little more?" I pleaded

"Just a little more." she giggled and deepened the kiss

Alpha Jason walked up to the podium and cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. Alexa abruptly stopped the kiss and turned her attention to her father.

Those drinks must've been stronger than I thought they'd be. I knew wolf alcohol was potent but they must've put a little extra in the drinks. When I found myself not being able to focus on the speech, I knew I had caught a buzz.

I knew Steven would be naming me as his Gamma soon so I decided to try to make my way to where the platform. Walking in a straight line was proving more difficult than I initially thought.

"I wonder where Alexa got off to?" I thought as I kept walking through the crowd

Steven had just been called to take his father's place at the podium. I took one final look through the crowd and spotted Alexa walking toward the platform. 

"Wasn't she wearing a green dress? When did she change?" I thought shaking my head "Get it together, Nick. Steal one last kiss then get your ass on stage. It's show time!" 

"For my Beta, I choose Alex Clark." I heard Steven Say just as I run up behind Alexa. Without a second to waste I caught her arm, spun her around, and kissed her.

A growl rippled out through the crowd, stopping everyone in their tracks. They all looked at us.

"What the hell do you think your doing!?" a smack landed across my face

"Huh?" I shook my head, trying to focus my vision, my head was pounding

I blinked a few times and looked harder. In front of me, stood my Luna. Fear hit me like a freight train. Instantly I lowered my head in submission. I knew I had f**ked up, this was a life and death situation.

"For my Gamma, I choose Piper Grant." Steven's words cut straight through me
