The Perfect Luna

Chapter 5

***Piper POV***

I had just finished going through the line and filling my plate up with a steak, mashed potatoes, garlic roasted green beans, and some fresh fruit. I walked down the stairs and over the first table where my best friend Alexa was already sitting.

"Hey girl!" I said as I sat down next to her

"What's up best friend?" she laughed

"I should be asking you what's up." I lower my voice to a whisper "Don't think I didn't notice you sneaking in after the party had already started."

When I wiggled my eyebrows she began to blush.

"Can we take this conversation somewhere a little more private?" she whispered back

'Here good?' I mindlinked her

'Here is perfect. No prying ears with wolf hearing.' she laughed

'No, they'll just consider us rude to be having a private conversation while sitting at the table with everyone. It's almost as bad as texting constantly while with a group of friends or family.' I laugh back 'Anywho, spill the details. I know you were with Nick again. You cleaned up but I can still smell him on you. What's actually going on between the two of you?'

We began to slowly eat as we continued our private conversation.

'Girl, he is amazing. He treats me like a Princess.' she started

'I mean, you are an Alpha. Kinda the same thing" I laugh again

'I know. But I'm talking about just as a person. He doesn't seem to care that I'm an Alpha. He treats me good. As a person in general. I know that I just got Rose a few months ago and we wouldn't know it yet. But, I believe Nick could be my Mate. Everything just feels so magical with him. You know?'

'I do. I feel the same about Kyle. Although we're taking things much slower than you and Nick.'

'Yeah, things have been going kind of fast ever since my wolf woke up. Although I'm definitely not I've always had a crush on him though.' she laughed

'Speaking of Nick, where is he?' I asked

'I don't know. I thought he'd have fighting his way through the line. He does have quite the appetite.' she said suggestively

Before I can respond, someone at the table speaks up and breaks our conversation.

"Ladies. Care to join the rest of us at the table?" the Luna asked with a raised eyebrow

"Yes, Luna." I replied

"Sorry, mom." Alexa said

As everyone continued eating and chatting among themselves a commotion started towards the back of party. I perk up my ears to get a better listen.

"She my Mate!" someone growled "Get you dirty hands off of her before I rip your arm from your f**king body!"

"Chill man. I didn't know she was Mated. Take her." the other guy responded

I look and see Mimi beaming from ear to ear. She got up from the table and leapt into her Mate's open arms, wrapped her legs around his waist.

"Mine!" she growled as she plunged her tongue into his mouth

"Mine!" he growled back

"Family. Function." Alpha Jason stood up using his Alpha voice "Take it somewhere else."

The happy couple pause their mouth s*x. He starts to carry her away.

"And congratulations" Alpha Jason laughed as he sat back down to his Mate and dinner

"Young love." she laughed "What are you gonna do?"

"Whatever it takes to keep anyone from f**king at my son's birthday party. In front of young pups, nonetheless." he laughed back before giving her a kiss

No one else seemed to notice that Nick's seat was still empty at the table. Luckily there were a few groups of people lingering about and he could have easily been in any of them. Just plausible enough to not arouse any suspicion.

'If he messes this up, we're going to get the spot as Gamma.' Lily spoke up

'I know, Lily. I just know he's best friends with our future Alpha and he wants to be Gamma just as much as we do.' I reply

'But it is our birthright! Just because we're not swinging some meat stick between our legs should not automatically disqualify us from getting what is rightfully ours.' Lily was getting pissed off

'Calm down, Lily. The Moon Goddess will make sure everything will work out. Have faith.' I tried to reassure her

***Alex POV***

We were already 30 minutes past the start of the party and no one else seemed to realize that Nick had yet to show his face. My brother has always been a slacker but he would normally pull through when he was truly needed.

'Where the hell are you!? You'd better have a damn good reason for-' I started to mindlink Nick

"Long lines." Nick chuckled gesturing back toward the food as he looked eyes with me

Nick sat down and started eating his food. I could faintly smell Alexa on him. I shake my head.

'Dangerous waters you're playing in with Alexa.' I mindlink Nick

'But how I do love to play.' he laughed

'Just be careful you don't find yourself up sh*t's creek without a paddle. I'm not saving your ass.'

'I'm not some child you have to save.'

'Then act like it. It's the biggest night of Steven's life and an equally big night for us and you just couldn't keep it in your pants.'

'Technically I wasn't wearing any pants' he laughed

'Idiot.' I ended the mindlink

As everyone finished their meals, we all got up to go enjoy some more of the party. More guests continued to show up, eating food and mingling.

As I'm nearing a group of girls from school and I overhear them talking. I perk up my ears to get a closer listen.

"Does anyone even know if he has an interest in anybody?"

"He's single, right?"

"I just know that he's hot."

"Sure is, the things I would do if I could get my hands on the Beta."

"Cammie!" the girls giggle

I act as if I heard nothing and greet them as I pass by.

"Ladies." I smile

Each one turns a shade redder. Cammie turns the reddest.

"Beta." they all say

I continue walking until I find Kyle and Steven standing off in the corner of the party.

"Kyle, you know there's no official naming for lead pack warrior but the spot is definitely yours when your father steps down." Steven said hugging Kyle

"Thanks, Steve. It's not the same as the succession of ranking members so anyone could take the spot of lead warrior." Kyle said stepping back

"Anyone could. But that doesn't mean that they will or that they deserve to." I walked over and joined the conversation

"Exactly. You're the best fighter in our generation." Steven added

"That's because they don't let wolves train to fight until they're at least 16. Not the case with me because my father does the training. I've been in this world since I was a pup." Kyle laughed

"Whatever the reason. I wouldn't trust the spot to anyone else. Consider it yours." Steven finished with a smile
