Daisy Pov
He stood in the doorway, his eyes scanning the room, and it landed on me. Then in Jordan.
His jaw clenched.
The air left my lungs slowly,“Oh no.”
He walked toward us. Every step was deliberate, calculated, and controlled.
Jordan looked up. "Is that…"
Fear burned through me like acid"Killian," I muttered under my breath, and I instinctively stood, adjusting my dress. "Hi. I was just—"
"Texting me your location after you snuck out?" His voice was calm. Too calm. "Yeah. I got that."
My breath came shallow.
Jordan stood too. For a second, their eyes met. The tension compressed into glances. Jordan extended his hand. "You must be the bodyguard. I'm Jordan. Daisy's best friend."
Killian’s gaze was unreadable, but I could feel the weight in it. "I know who you are." Their handshake was firm and it took some seconds “Good to finally meet you” Killian added.
"Is it?"
The tension was so thick it could be cut. I placed my hand on their tangled hands trying to disentangle it.
"Killian. I'm fine. I just needed to see Jordan. To talk." I managed to say, “I had missed him.”
Jordan took his seat.
"In public. Where anyone could see you, where anyone could follow you," he said lightly, his eyes never leaving Jordan. "Real smart, Daisy."
My throat tightened. "I was careful."
"Careful?" He laughed. Cold. "You actually thought wearing a face cap and sunglasses is being careful enough?” he asked, tilting his head.
Jordan crossed his arms. "Relax Mr. Bodyguard, she already said she is fine.“
Heat flooded my face.
“ Not to worry she is safe here, with me,” Jordan added, taking a sip of his coffee. “ “For years I have been protecting before you came and I will still be here to protect her when you...“
His jaw flexed. “Daisy, let go” he commanded, his voice cut in like a sharp knife before he could say anything.
“Why the haste?,” Jordan asked easily. Turning to Killian “You only just got here”
I turned my head to Killian, and his eyes were dark already, his hand molding to a fist. His chest was rising and falling rapidly.
My pulse spiked “Killian” I blurted.
“Let go” he said calmly
At this point, I hated the attention we were attracting. People were staring, some were murmuring.
I reached for Killian hand “What's wrong Killian we were just having a chat over a cup of coffee”
They stared at each other. Neither was backing down.
The whispering and murmuring from people around became louder. I don’t exactly get why people can’t mind their damn business.
“I am waiting, Daisy, “ his eyes fixed on me. His hand stretched in front of me waiting for me to take it.
Thank goodness those nosy paparazzi weren't here. If not, this moment would have been the cover page of all the new papers tomorrow.
I mentally assess myself on what to do.
Should I keep sitting with the one friend who had always been there for me, reading my script, correcting them, sharing in my joy and my pains?
Or should I walk away with my bodyguard who was doing more than his job already. Making sure I was safe, and whose touch I crave every damn time.
“Killian. What's the issue “
I was on my toes. Straighten my skirt with trembling hands. It's best if we just leave.
“See you around bestie” I said trying to keep my voice as neutral as possible.
Jordan's jaw tightened enough to snap
Killian didn’t say a word, he just placed a hand on my waist and guided me outside. Possessively.
“We are using my car, someone will pick yours up soon”
“You care to explain what that was about” I asked once we were in the car and he was about to start the engine.
He didn’t spare me a glance “ it risk to be out alone”
I blinked, “ alone”
“Yes alone Daisy” he shifted in his seat “ Can your so-called bestie protect if the stalker starts shooting, can he pull a trigger for you”
I let out a breath “ I can’t just stay away from the one friend who had never left my side for years, yes he might not have the balls to pull a trigger but if he did he would pull a thousand triggers for me”
He threw his head backward in laughter “ And I won’t do that “ he paused, “and I haven’t done that already “
“Is not a competition, Killian.”
One of his hands found my tight gently and that touch awakened all my nerves.
“Then don't make me feel like I am in one”
My body went weak.
I pressed my thighs together trying to contain the heat that was raised there instantly.
Our fingers brushed as he pulled his hand away from my thigh slowly.
He reached out for his phone and played “Unchained Melody - by the Righteous Brothers”
The music filled the car, slow and romantic but my mind was spinning. My life was filled with drama. Jordan on one hand, Killian on the other hand and not forgetting the stalker.
How I wish life was a fairy tale where I had a genie who would grant three of my wishes. I would have wished for…
“Jesus “ Killian screamed as he slammed on the brakes. I lurched forward luckily the seat belt caught me.
My heart dropped to my stomach.
“What”
Then I saw him.
A child. He was young, maybe four years old standing in the middle of the frozen road.
“Oh, God. Oh God. Oh God”
Killian was already out of the car, door slamming before I could turn my gaze to him.
I stumbled out after him. My legs shaking
Killian was kneeling in front of the child, his hands hovering around him checking, not touching, just looking and making sure he wasn’t physically hurt.
“Are you okay?” His voice cracked. “ Do your hands hurt? Your legs? Do you feel pain anywhere at all.?”
The child didn’t answer, he just stood there trembling.
Killian pulled him close as gently as he could. “It's okay. You’re okay, I have got you.”
Tears started running down his cheeks as he let out sobs into Killian's chest.
“ I am sorry,” I whispered, though I knew my words at that point were useless. “ I am so sorry, baby. Don’t cry anymore please baby”
I reached for the child but Killian stood. Still holding him. Pasting and patting his back.
“Shh… It's okay. You’re safe now
And then we heard her.
“Give me my child.” A woman’s voice yelled ” Why are you holding my child? Give him to me!”
She ran toward us and gripped her son from Killian
The child's sobs became louder. “Mummy! Mummy!”
The woman clutched him. Checking his face. His arms. His legs.” Are you hurt? Baby, tell mummy, are you hurt”
“I am so sorry . I didn’t see him, please let me take him to a hospital just to make sure he’s ok” Killian said with trembling hands and voice.
She didn’t answer. Didn’t even look at him. She just held her son, tears streaming down her face.
“Please “ Killian sounded broken.” Let's just take you both to any clinic or hospital, just…please “
Silence
Then she looked up for the first time since she took her son into her arms. Her eyes were dark and filled with pain, terror, and rage.
“Okay,” she replied with a single word.
She was already walking toward the car holding her son like a lifetime.
Killian rushed ahead, opened the back door, and reached out with a hand to help.
But she shot Killian with a look that says “ get the f**k away from my child.
