Daisy's Pov
It was one of the strippers who found me.
I had barely made it down the last step of the rooftop staircase when I walked straight into a wall of a man in silk trousers, his eyes going wide the moment he saw me.
"Miss." He grabbed my arm gently. "Boss Lady has been looking for you."
I didn't even have time to ask questions. He was already moving, pulling me through a back corridor, past the thumping music and the colored lights until we pushed through a side door and I froze.
Everyone was on the floor.
Hands behind their heads. Faces down. Not a single person dared to breathe too loudly.
Queen stood in the middle of it all with a cigarette between her fingers and the kind of stillness that was somehow more terrifying than noise.
"Found her Boss Lady," the stripper announced.
Queen turned.
The hardness in her face cracked the moment her eyes landed on me, and she crossed the floor in three strides, pulling me into a hug so tight that I felt my ribs protest.
"Don't ever do that again," she muttered into my hair.
"Queen I'm fine."
"I said don't ever do that again, Daisy."
I hugged her back and said nothing.
When she finally pulled away she held me at arm's length, her eyes running over me the way a mother checks a child for bruises. "Where were you?"
"I just needed air. I went upstairs for a bit, I'm okay. I promise."
Her eyes narrowed. She didn't fully believe me. I could tell but she let it go for now.
"You weren't the only one missing," she said, one brow lifting slowly. "Your bodyguard was gone too."
My heart dropped to my stomach.
"I didn't notice," I said, keeping my face even.
Queen looked at me for one long second. Then the corner of her mouth moved. "I told Ella and Adrian that he probably went to get himself a lap dance." She took a drag of her cigarette. "Because honestly? The way that man looks?" She exhaled slowly. "He would have the whole floor fighting over him."
She winked.
I said nothing.
Queen, turned back to the room and raised her voice. "Alright. I found my cousin." She waved a hand like she was clearing smoke. "Everybody get up and get out. Drinks on the house. Please go."
The relief that moved through the room was almost physical.
She led me upstairs to the VIP lounge and I barely had time to step through the curtain before Ella was on her feet.
"Daisy." She came to me with her hands outstretched, her eyes wide. "Oh my God, where were you? You look …” she trailed her words, her eyes scanning me “Are you okay, sis? What happened?"
I don't know what the hell happened when I was gone but I almost burst into laughter from the fake affection Ella was portraying.
She was touching my arm, my face, smoothing my hair back like she was genuinely worried.
And I just let her do her thing.
I looked over her shoulder and my eyes landed on Killian.
He was already seated, a glass in his hand. He looked completely relaxed. And Adrian was sitting just slightly too close to him, the kind of closeness that wasn't accidental.
I didn't know what exactly might have happened but somehow about the gaze and how close they said, looking fishy.
Before I could think about it further, the Queen's phone buzzed loudly on the table.
She picked it up, read it, and let out a long breath through her nose.
That's Dad," she announced, setting the phone down. "He wants us home” Something about the stalker situation not being resolved. He doesn't want anyone keeping late nights."
None of us dared to argue.
My father's words had always been law.
We left Adam's the way we came — in two cars, same arrangement.
The drive home was quiet. Queen made small talk. I watched the city lights pass the window and nodded in the right places.
Once we got home everyone went to their rooms without ceremony. A few goodnights in the hallway. A door closing.
And I was alone.
My room felt different at night.
I sat on the edge of the bed and looked at the ceiling and tried very hard not to think about the rooftop.
But it wasn't possible.
The way he looked at me “Ouchhhh! like he can never have enough of me.
But we didn't say anything afterward. Not really. We just straightened ourselves up, looked at each other in the dark, and then I said “We have to go back” and he kissed my forehead and that was that.
No conversation. No, what does this mean? Just the city below us and the cold air and his hands and then…Nothing.
I lay on the bed and let out a breath.
Maybe it meant nothing to him. Men like Killian didn't exactly operate on the” let's talk about our feelings". He was a bodyguard. A very infuriating one, a very attractive bodyguard who had just —
I stopped that thought before it finished itself.
Let's just call it a bodyguard with benefits.
Because maybe he didn't even like me the way I liked him. Maybe I was building a whole house out of a single brick and the man was downstairs somewhere not thinking about me at all.
But he had also said “you are mine alone” a couple of times.
I closed my eyes. Stop it, Daisy.
I turned onto my side and pulled the pillow over my face..“Get out of my head Killian, ”
Oh! I miss my best friend Jordan. He always comes over at night like this when my brain won't stop spinning and we will gist and chat all night.
Now we even go for days without text or call.
“I miss you Jordan’ I said quietly in my chest.
I rolled onto my back again.
And because I was apparently committed to torturing myself tonight, my brain moved from Jordan to the person it had been circling all evening.
Adrian.
