Chapter 2 : Welcome to the Unknown
As they approached the property, the more dense the area seemed. The trees were so close together , you had to walk between them to see through. They grabbed their supplies and headed into the woods. The leaves and twigs underneath their feet made rustling sounds.
They huddled together as they walked further into the dense forest.
Both women suddenly screamed as a twig to their left snapped. “Who ho is th th there” stuttered Lindsey. Both girls waited holding their breaths for a reply. Emily took a shaky step back. Just then a fox ran across their path and deeper into the forest. They both screamed and hugged each other.
After a while they both looked at each other and started laughing. “You were scared of a tiny fox” laughed Lindsey. “Nuh uh you screamed too, you goof”. They continued to bicker back and forth laughing as they headed further into the forest.
Walking for what seemed like hours, they found a small clearing with a river running through. They set up their campsite and then sat next to the river, letting their feet cool down in the ice cold water.
“You know, it's pretty beautiful here” Lindsey said as she flicked water with her fingers. “Yeah. I wish they wouldn't bow doze this place down. It would be a beautiful place for walking trails to see wild life” Emily said, agreeing. They put blankets on the grass and laid down resting as Emily wrote down notes about the layout of the land so far. By the time Emily was done it was getting dark. “We better get in the tent before the night wild life comes out. I have sandwiches made up in the cooler, so we can grab one on the way in” Emily said as she walked up and grabbed two sandwiches and got into the tent.
Inside the tent, there were blankets all on the floor and dozens of pillows scattered everywhere. “I think you out did yourself with the blankets and pillows” laughed Lindsey. “ I didn't know how cold it was going to be, plus you can never have too many pillows,” Emily said in-between laughs.
They continued having small talk as they ate their delicious sandwiches. Within thirty minutes, both women were sound asleep on the tent floor. Neither lady knew their lives were about to change and never be the same again.
A loud growl radiated through the tent, so loud it jolted the women up from a dead sleep. “Wha wha what wa wa was that?” Stuttered Emily and her body shook violently against Lindsey as they held onto each other. “I I don't know. Maybe it was just a drea dream” stuttered Lindsey as she also shook from pure horror.
The women screamed and threw a blanket over them as another growl radiated through the air. It was so loud, it felt like the ground shook.
Suddenly the blanket was ripped off their heads. The women clenched their eyes shut as they both continued to hold onto each other shaking. Tears were falling from their eyes as the fear increased. A blood curling scream left Emily's lips as she was yanked away from Lindsey. Emily's eyes ripped open as she realized it was a hand wrapped around her upper arm. Glaring right at her was the most muscular man she had ever seen in her life. He towered over her 5 foot 4 inch figure by at least a foot. He had spikey black hair with bangs falling into his eyes. His gorgeous but deadly looking eyes were glowing a golden brown. Emily's eyes lowered from his eyes as she let her eyes roam down his naked muscular chest to his visible voice line that disappeared under his knee length jean shorts. Emily shook her head and looked back up into the strangers eyes only to see he was checking her out too.
“Who are ya you” stuttered Lindsey from behind Emily. Emily completely forgot that Lindsey was in the room until she spoke. The man glared behind Emily and a fierce growl escaped his lips. Emily stepped back from the thunderous noise coming from the man. She tore her eyes off him to look at Lindsey who was now standing and looking just as confused as Emily felt.
The man took a long breath in through his noise and it seemed to calm him.
“What is your name?” He asked with his deep masculine voice. He was staring straight at Emily. Emily just stared at him dumb founded. ‘This man came in here growling like he owns everything, and now he's asking for my name. What a crazy person. Crazy but sexy as hell.’ Emily thought to herself. The man growled lowly in his throat , and that's when Emily realized she giggled out loud. “I asked you, what is your name?” the man asked again.
“First tell me your name and why are you here? You're the one who barged into our tent and started growling like an animal!” Emily said, confronting the man. Emily swore her heart stopped when the man smirked at her.
“My name is Blake Salvatore and you both are trespassing on my property. Now it's your turn. What's your name?” Blake said, smirking. “First this isn't your property. It is owned by my boss Mr.Davidson. Secondly this is Lindsey and I'm Emily.” Emily said with confidence. By the time she got down introducing herself, Lindsey got the confidence to stand next to her. Emily looked at her best friend and saw she was no longer scared or in shock from the strange encounter.
“This is my land. Mr.Davidsons property is 100 acres East. There is a road separating our land and this is private property. So unless you want me to call law enforcement for trespassing, I'd advise you both to leave my property at once.” He said to Emily.
Emily looked shocked. How could she be on the wrong property? Did she really take the wrong way on the road and should have gone East instead of West. Hundreds of thoughts were racing through her mind but only one thought she whispered out loud. “How are we supposed to find our way out of these woods in the middle of the night?” She whispered. “I can walk you out. I know this land better than anyone. Pack your things and meet me by the river when you're done” Blake said walking out of the tent.
“He's so intense. I thought he was only going to growl at us. Isn't it weird he was growling? Maybe he grew up in the woods like a wild man. That would explain a lot, don't you think?” Rambled Lindsey as she packed her things. “Wild man. Girl you're crazy. He was probably just trying to scare us ,so we wouldn't want to stay here. You gotta admit though. He's sexy as hell. Did you hear him talking?” Whispered Emily to Lindsey. “Seriously Lindsey! I know you miss living in the country and all those cow boys but a wild man living in the woods does not sound like a match made in heaven for me. Like seriously Emily, he was just growling at you. Doesn't that bother you at all?” Asked Lindsey. Lindsey stared at Emily waiting for an answer. “You should seriously see your face Lid. But you know the saying ‘men are dogs’. Maybe he just takes it to a whole new level. Plus it was kind of sexy. How many men do you know that can make your whole body shiver from simply a noise?” Emily said laughing. “Humph you're crazy as heck. Let's just hurry and get out of these creepy woods with the creepy wild man.”Lindsey said laughing.
Both women were laughing when they exited the tent. Blake had already packed everything outside of the tent away. As soon as the women were a couple feet out of the tent, Blake walked over and took it down. He packed it away and motioned the women to follow him. They lit their way with flash lights as they traveled through the forest . The only sound was their breathing, the ground crunching underneath their feet, and some twigs snapping in the distance every so often.
“So why were you out this late at night wondering in the woods?” asked Emily. “Nosy little one, aren't you. Well if you must know, one of you two triggered an alarm back at my house. At first I thought you guys must be poachers for the wildlife on this land until I saw how unprepared you were to even be in the woods in the first place. You do know there are bears, snakes, coyotes, and more dangerous wildlife in these woods. Neither one of you brought anything to protect yourselves from danger. What if a bear stumbled onto your campsite from the smell of your food? What if you stepped on a venomous snake and it bit one of you? It was very reckless to come out here so unprepared” Blake said while still leading the way. “It's not our fault , we were so unprepared. Her boss wanted her to survey the land even though she is an accountant. We have no training for this and found out about it last minute.”defended Lindsey. Blake simply shook his head and continued walking. It seemed like days before they made it out of the woods even though it was only an hour.
The women thanked Blake for helping them get out of the woods. Blake simply nodded and went to head in when he spun around and grabbed Emily's arm. “Emily, if you ever need anything, simply call me. Blake said, handing Emily a contact card before disappearing back into the woods.
“See told you he was a wild man. He just walked back into the woods by himself after we pretty much just got a lecture from him for wandering the woods. He's such a hypocrite! Can you believe the nerve of that man? And then for him to give you a contact card like you're going to call him. What would you need him for anyway? That is just plain weird.” Complained Lindsey. “Lindsey, let's just go home and get some sleep. I don't know any man that gets under your skin as much as Blake does. It's pretty funny actually” laughed Emily. Lindsey rolled her eyes at Emily as she continued walking to Emily's car. Unknown to them the man they kept talking about was in the woods laughing , listening to their crazy conversation as he walked happily back home.
