Chapter 2

735 Words
Logan’s POV As I walk to the local bagel place, to meet my brother for breakfast, I find my mind is consumed with my elevator interaction. I’ve seen the girl around the building, I think she lives next door to me and Jess, but I had no idea she had a kid. God, she looks so young and the kid, who is apparently named Liam, looks about 4 or 5. She must have been a teenager when she had him, I don’t know how she manages to take care of him and go to school at Columbia. I saw our school’s logo on her bag. As I step into the deli and see my brother waiting for me I realize that I don’t even know this girl’s name. Why am I thinking about her so much? After breakfast, I head back to my apartment because I don’t have class until 2:00 this afternoon. Why my brother insisted on meeting at 8:00 am I will never know, but there is no way I can go back to sleep after our conversation. He told me he is leaving the company, which means my dad is going to look at me now. How do I tell my dad that I don’t want his company either? I’m sitting on the couch playing video games when my roommate and best friend, Jess, rolls out of bed. “Wow, 12:00, I think that’s the earliest you’ve woken up in years Jess,” I say with an immeasurable level of sarcasm. “f**k you, Logan,” he says, making us both laugh. Just then I remember my neighbor and what happened this morning. “Hey, you know the girl next door?” I ask Jess. “Yea, I’ve seen her a couple of times, she’s super hot, what about her?” “I saw her this morning,” “And?” he asks, wondering if there is anything else to the story. “She’s got a kid,” I say. “A kid, what do you mean she’s got a kid?” “I mean I saw her in the elevator and she had a little kid with her, they even looked alike, had the same eyes,” I explain. “Wow! I had no idea,” he says. “Me neither.” Then we hear someone walking down the hall, we both rush to the door and look through the peephole. It’s her. I don’t know what comes over me but I just have to talk to her so I open the door and step into the hall. “Hey,” real smooth Logan. “Hey,” she says with a small smile on her face. “I just wanted to say thank you for holding the door for me this morning.” “Yea, it was no problem.” Her voice is so beautiful I can’t help but imagine what it would sound like moaning my name. Whoa, where did that come from Logan? Shut it down, you don’t even know her name. Her name now is the perfect time to ask her for her name, “Uh, we haven’t really met before, I’m Logan.” “It’s nice to meet you, Logan, I’m Brittany.” Brittany, it doesn’t seem to suit her at all. Brittany is the name of the bitchy popular girl in the movies. She seems sweet like she doesn’t have a bad bone in her body. I’m desperate to know more about her. “Would you let me buy you a coffee to say thanks?” I ask praying she says yes. “Now?” she questions. “Sure, if you’re free,” I reply holding my breath. “Ok, let me just put my stuff inside,” she says as she opens the door. She walks in and says over her shoulder, “You can come in, I’ll just be a second. Stepping into her apartment, I see toys all over the floor and suddenly I remember. She has a kid, what am I doing? Well, I’ve never seen a guy coming or going and there’s no ring on her finger, and she wouldnt of agreed to coffee if she had a boyfriend, right? Then she steps back into the living room and all I can think about is learning more about her. “Ready to go?” I ask. “Ready,” she replies.
