IN THE very small hours of that night a swarm of workmen began to remove a whole end of the huge construction hangar. Section by section they lifted out the specially designed panels with mobile cranes until the vast interior was revealed like a great lighted cavern in the night. Then, with infinite care, a powerful tow truck began to move the cradle that held the gigantic flying boat, Spacemaster I, forward toward the open end of the building. With almost no sound except for the muffled throb of the truck’s engine, the wings of the great boat moved slowly past the rows of construction offices and the hundreds of carefully parked tool stands and workbenches.
