Chapter 5 The emergency alert came through just before noon—a high-ranking supernatural patient, a powerful Alpha from a rival pack, critically injured in a violent skirmish. The hospital instantly went into lockdown mode. Interns and junior staff were sent home, but Kael’s cold voice over the intercom had singled me out. “Stay. You’re assisting me.” The words felt like a command and a warning all at once. There was no room to argue. I stepped into the ICU, where the tension was thick enough to choke on. The fluorescent lights flickered intermittently, shadows dancing along the sterile walls. Kael’s silhouette stood tall and rigid near the operating table, his dark eyes scanning every detail with ruthless precision. His presence was intimidating but oddly comforting. I couldn’t explain why my heart fluttered despite the cold fear crawling under my skin. Lucian arrived moments later—effortlessly suave even in his scrubs. His usual playful charm was replaced by a serious, almost predatory focus. When his eyes met mine, I felt the weight of his gaze settle deep inside me, igniting a fire I couldn’t put out. The surgery dragged on for hours. Machines beeped erratically, monitors flickered, and the air grew heavier with every passing minute. At one point, I reached out to hand Kael a scalpel, our fingers brushing briefly. The shock was instant—his skin was scorching hot against mine. I saw something flicker in his eyes: raw power, barely restrained. Lucian noticed too. He narrowed his eyes, muscles tensing like a coiled spring. After the procedure was stabilized, the hospital began to empty. I was exhausted and ready to leave when the sky outside darkened suddenly. Rain began pounding on the windows, turning the streets into rivers. Lucian approached quietly. “You shouldn’t drive in this weather. I’ll take you home.” I hesitated. The storm outside was fierce, but I wasn’t used to being “taken care of” like this—especially by him. But the pull in his voice was undeniable. I nodded, and we slipped out together. The air outside was thick with rain and electricity, the night swallowing us whole as we reached his car. The moment I got in, their scent hit me—deep, wild, intoxicating. My body responded before my mind could stop it, heat spreading like wildfire. I wanted to surrender—to lean into the danger and let it consume me. Lucian’s hand found its way to my thigh, tracing slow, deliberate circles over bare skin. A shiver ran through me, and I bit my lip to hold back a moan. His fingers traveled higher, brushing the outline of my most intimate places. Kael’s wolf was on edge, his gaze darkening as he watched, muscles taut with barely concealed hunger. Lucian smirked, pressing a kiss against the sensitive skin of my neck, and I didn’t even realize I’d moaned until he whispered against my pulse, “Seems you want more.” The car jerked suddenly to a stop. Kael’s voice cut through the tension like a blade. “We’re here.” The storm raged outside, but inside the car, the air was thick with unspoken promises and dangerous desire --- The rain hammered the windshield, a relentless drum against the car’s roof. Outside, the city was a blur of lights and shadows, but inside the vehicle, the atmosphere was heavy, charged with something more dangerous than the storm itself. Lucian’s hand still lingered on my thigh, his fingers trailing slow, tantalizing patterns that set my nerves ablaze. My breath hitched, body trembling from the intoxicating mixture of his scent and the electricity sparking between us. The heat pooling low in my belly was a secret flame, dangerous and forbidden. Kael’s presence beside me was like a dark storm ready to break. His eyes, sharp and unreadable, flicked between Lucian’s hand and my flushed face. His jaw clenched, a low growl vibrating in his throat—a silent claim, a warning. Lucian’s lips brushed my neck again, softer this time, a teasing promise wrapped in silk and danger. “You feel it too, don’t you?” His voice was a velvet whisper, full of hunger and certainty. I swallowed hard, unable to speak. The craving inside me battled with the fear—fear of the unknown, fear of losing myself in these two powerful forces that threatened to pull me apart. Suddenly, the car jolted again as Kael’s voice cut through the haze, sharp and commanding. “Enough.” Lucian’s fingers paused, but his smirk never faded. “We’re claiming you, whether you want it or not.” My heart thundered. The words felt like chains tightening around my soul. “Don’t,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the rain. Kael’s gaze softened for a heartbeat. “Because we care.” Lucian laughed, dark and dangerous. “That’s what they all say before they fall.” I looked between them, caught in the storm of their conflicting energies. Was I truly theirs to claim? Could I survive what that meant? The car grew silent, save for the rain and our ragged breaths. And then, as if the night itself was holding its breath, the car’s engine died. ---Chapter 5 — Part 2 (Continuation to 2000 Words) --- The sudden silence after the engine died was deafening. Lucian sat back, withdrawing his hand slowly, almost deliberately, as though savoring the moment he just created. My thighs were still tingling where his fingers had danced. Kael opened the door and stepped into the rain without a word. The cold gust of wind that followed him inside was a cruel contrast to the fire blazing beneath my skin. Lucian looked at me, his eyes gleaming in the dim interior light. “Come on, sweetheart. We won’t bite…” A pause. “Unless you want us to.” My breath caught. He opened his door and stepped into the storm like it didn’t even touch him, his tall figure a silhouette of confidence and sin. I was left alone in the car for a second, heart pounding, skin burning, thoughts spiraling. Why did I react like that? Why did I… want more? I stepped out quickly, the rain soaking through my hair and clothes within seconds. Kael was already unlocking the tall, sleek apartment building we’d parked in front of. Lucian held the door open for me with a smirk that said he knew exactly what was running through my mind. They lived together? That was dangerous. Once inside, I followed them up a narrow staircase, trying not to think about the heat radiating off their bodies. My soaked shirt clung to my chest, and I caught Kael’s eyes flick toward me before he looked away sharply, his jaw tight. Lucian, on the other hand, didn’t bother hiding it. “You should really stop tempting us,” he said, voice low, eyes on my chest. “I’m not—” I started, flustered. He chuckled. “But you are, angel.” The apartment was modern, dimly lit, filled with dark wood and the faint scent of cedar, leather, and something purely male. I stood awkwardly near the door, raindrops still dripping from my hair. Kael tossed me a towel. “Dry off. You’ll catch a cold.” The softness in his voice caught me off guard. “Thanks…” I said, clutching it close. Lucian leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching me with the eyes of a predator who’d already marked his prey. “You’ll stay the night. Roads are flooded.” “I—” I started, but Kael cut in. “He’s right. It’s not safe.” I knew they weren’t asking. I nodded slowly, unsure of what I was agreeing to. Lucian’s lips curled. “Good girl.” That phrase again. Something about the way he said it made my knees weak. --- Later, I sat on the large velvet couch, wrapped in one of Kael’s shirts while my clothes dried. It smelled like him—woodsy, crisp, and addictive. Lucian entered the room holding two mugs of something hot. He handed one to me and sat down way too close. “What do you think of us?” he asked casually. The question came out of nowhere. I looked at him sharply, caught off guard. “I—I think you’re my bosses,” I said weakly. Kael, who’d been leaning against the wall, gave a low chuckle. “That’s not what he meant.” Lucian’s hand brushed mine, slow and deliberate. “You feel it, don’t you?” “I don’t know what I feel,” I admitted, my voice low. He tilted his head, his eyes locked onto mine like he could see everything I was hiding. “Your body does.” I looked away, but I couldn’t deny it. I did feel something. And it terrified me. --- A knock suddenly echoed at the door. Three sharp raps. Kael was immediately alert. He crossed the room in two strides and peered through the peephole. His body went tense. Lucian stood up, his entire energy shifting. “Who the hell is that?” “I don’t know,” Kael growled. “But it’s not good.” I stood too, heart thudding. “Should I hide?” Lucian turned to me, eyes fierce. “Yes. Go into the room at the end of the hall. Don’t come out until we come for you.” Kael’s voice was darker than I’d ever heard it. “And whatever you hear… don’t scream.” ---
