The Deal You Can’t Refuse

327 Words
Rain fell hard against the city. The kind that erased footprints. The kind that hid secrets. Cassandra followed him. She didn’t hesitate. Didn’t second guess. Randy Allen had information—and she needed it. That was enough. He led her to the old science block behind the school. Abandoned. Dark. Forgotten. Perfect. “You shouldn’t be here,” he said without turning. “And yet you brought me,” Cassandra replied. He turned then, eyes unreadable. “No,” he said. “You chose to come.” Silence stretched. Heavy. Testing. “What do you know about my father?” she asked finally. Straight to the point. Randy studied her like she was a puzzle he already solved. “More than you do.” Her chest tightened. “Then talk.” “I will,” he said calmly. “But nothing comes free.” Of course not. “What do you want?” That was the moment everything shifted. “Be with me.” Cassandra blinked. “…what?” “My girlfriend,” he clarified. “Publicly. Convincingly.” She stared at him, disbelief turning into anger. “You’re insane.” “Maybe.” “I’m not playing games with you.” “You already are.” Her patience snapped. “I said no.” And then— He stepped closer. Too close. “You don’t really have that option.” Her breath caught. “Why not?” His voice dropped. “Because if you walk away… everything you’ve been searching for disappears.” That was it. The trap. The leverage. Cassandra clenched her fists. This wasn’t just manipulation. It was control. And she hated it. But she hated not knowing more. “Fine,” she said coldly. Randy’s eyes flickered. “But understand this,” she continued, her voice sharp as glass. “I’m not yours. This is temporary.” A pause. Then— “We’ll see.” And just like that— The lie began.
