Mila’s POV
I had gotten used to my new routine, I went to training every morning, I had gotten a job at the hospital that I worked shadowing my mother every Monday, and I worked at the beach all the other days of the week. On weekends I hung out with Annie, Liam, Devin, Will and Waverly, sometimes Nora. My sister had made friends her own age, she was loving her new life as a werewolf. Annie had also moved at the packhouse, Liam was doting on her every minute of every day, he had enrolled her at the pack highschool. That’s where she would attend for her senior year.
I didn’t see Isaac too much, he was really keeping his distance now. He didn’t want anyone to figure out that I was his mate and I didn’t want to sneak around like his w***e. It was really painful to see him but I was getting used to it, it wasn’t getting easier but it was manageable.
I was doing a shift at the beach today, Devin was working with me. Come to think of it, Devin was always working the same shifts as me. It had to be a coincidence though.
“What did Annie’s family think of her teenage pregnancy and her running away with a wolf?” Devin asked casually while we were scanning the waters, making sure all the swimmers were safe.
Annie had told her parents and brothers that she was pregnant, they didn’t take it that well at first. Her dad and Oliver wanted to beat up Liam but Tyler quickly calmed them down. He knew first hand that there was no use fighting with a werewolf and Liam was massive. Liam and Isaac had decided that it would be best to let the entire Pratt family know about the supernatural world, since Annie would soon become one and she would have a little baby werewolf too. Annie’s mom fainted, naturally, and Oliver said it wasn’t fair, he wanted to be a werewolf too.
“It could have gone better, but I think it’s all good now. They know how stubborn Annie is anyways, they know there’s nothing they could have done to change her mind.” I answered.
“How are you doing with all of this?” Devin asked me genuinely.
“I’m okay, mostly thanks to you. You’ve honestly been the best friend throughout my entire life. Thanks.” I told him earnestly.
“No problem!” Devin said with a huge smile.
He was such a nice guy, it was a shame that he was a player and a man w***e. He would make the perfect boyfriend too i’m sure.
“So you haven’t met your mate yet?” I asked him.
“Nah..I wouldn’t mind finding her but i’m not actively searching either. I see how much it hurts when people lose their mates and I don’t really wanna go through that.” He said honestly.
“But having someone to love would be worth it wouldn’t it?” I asked him.
“Maybe..seeing how Cohen is coping with his loss, and how my dad was so distant growing up after my mom’s passing and even your mother went through a tough time, it just messed up my beliefs over the entire mate bond.” He said painfully.
“I bet your mom would want you to find your mate..” I said lowly.
“Yeah..sure. Are you happy that you found yours?” He asked me snidely.
“My situation is complicated..” I answered sassily.
“Ookay.” He answered as if he won the argument.
“HELP!!” A little boy screamed. He was way too far away from the shore, he was flailing his arms in a panic and fighting hard to stay above water.
Devin and I started running, Devin stayed and held back the boy’s hysterical mother from running in the water herself. As I was about to run in the water, I noticed that Tyler was swimming towards the little boy. He was out surfing with a client so he was much closer than us. He’s not supposed to interfere though, he doesn’t have the proper training, it could be dangerous for him.
I ran and dove in the water, I quickly approached the boy and Tyler. The kid was frantic, he threw his head back and connected with Tyler’s head, knocking Ty out cold. He slowly sunk in the water.
“TY!!” I shouted.
I swam there as fast as I could, I comforted the boy and gave him a floating device before I dove under water for Tyler. He was floating under water, lifeless.. my heart sunk. I didn’t want to never see his piercing green eyes again, or to never hear his contagious laugh, so I pushed myself harder than I ever had before and quickly reached him, I pulled him up above water and swam to shore with Ty under one arm and the boy under the other. Devin ran towards us and grabbed Tyler from my arms and I carried the kid to his mother.
“Tyler!!” I heard a soft women’s voice call out for him. It was Kelly.
She made her way to where Devin had laid Tyler on the beach and was performing CPR on him, she kneeled next to them and took over for Devin.
Devin glanced my way and nodded at me with his lips pursed in a thin line. I dropped to my knees on the other side of them and I willed him to live.
“Come on, Ty..you can do it, pull through, please Ty!” I sobbed as I held his hand.
He started coughing out water so we held him up.
“Oh thank god! Ty! Are you okay?” I asked him worriedly.
“I’m glad to see you still care about me.” He said with a small grin in between coughs.
“Tyler! What the hell were you trying to do! You shouldn’t have tried to save that boy, do you see now how dangerous it is?!” I scolded him.
“Is he okay?!” He asked.
“Ughh! Yes he’s okay!” I screamed at him before I instinctively grabbed him and crashed my lips on his.
I kissed him passionately, happy that he was alive, proud that he had tried to save that little boy’s life. He grabbed the back of my neck and matched my intensity. I finally came to my senses and pulled myself away from him slowly.
“Mila..” He grinned at me, I smiled awkwardly at him and reluctantly backed away.
I looked up and Kelly looked utterly broken. She walked away fighting back tears. Devin looked at me wide eyed.
“Mila..can I talk to you?” Devin asked me.
I made sure Tyler was alright and I let the paramedics take over and then I followed Devin to one of the huts. He looked at me nervously as I waited for him to say something.
“Uh Mila..Isaac knows..” He told me in a panicked voice.
“Isaac knows what?” I asked him confusedly.
“He knows you kissed Tyler..he felt it.” He said calmly.
How could Isaac feel it? What the hell? I felt kinda guilty but not at the same time.
“How could he feel it?” I asked him in a bored tone.
“Through the mate bond, it feels like a stabbing pain in your stomach when your mate cheats on you. It’s called the betrayal mark.” Devin explained.
So whenever I kissed Tyler, Isaac felt it. I never felt any sort of betrayal pain, that means that Isaac never betrayed me. He never even so much as kissed another girl since he met me.
“Oh Dev..I f**ked up didn’t I?!” I said as my eyes welled up in tears.
He nodded slowly as his lips were pursed again in a tight line.
“Come on, let’s go find him.” Devin said calmly as he placed his hand on my back to comfort me.
“Where is he?” I sobbed.
“I don’t know, he’s not answering my links. Try to feel him through your bond.” Devin said.
“How do I do that?!” I asked curiously.
“Focus on your bond. Try to connect your mind to his.” Devin coached me.
I closed my eyes and focused on my mate, my strong and handsome Isaac, selfless, romantic and honest mate. I could feel little strings in my brain trying to attach themselves to Isaac’s brain. I focused on each string and imagined them being tied to Isaac’s strings.
Suddenly, I could feel him. He was completely furious and sad at the same time. I could feel his heart ache and the stinging he felt in his stomach. I focused even harder until I could see through his eyes..he was in his office.
I could see paper flying everywhere, furniture was broken and misplaced, his office was completely trashed.
“He’s wrecking his office..” I said as we ran out of the hut and made our way back to Midnight Howl.
I had to make things better between Isaac and I.
