Chapter 5 - The Scent of Death

1741 Words
Zane; I watch the poor fool I am about to kill reaching for the door handle and I am about to make my move… when suddenly all four of us freeze as the handle turns on its own! I frown as the door opens and there she is, the Euphoric human standing on the other side of it with a surprised expression painted across her face! My eyes widen with a mixture of both concern and confusion. ‘What the f**k is she doing awake and walking around already?’ I can’t seem to figure out how it’s even possible. I know full well that I gave her enough sedative to knock out a bloody horse! So how in the world is this human able to be up and walking around already? She should have been out for at least another hour or so. My answers will have to wait as I then realise the danger she has now put herself in by making her surprise appearance. She has no idea that these men are after her! Trace is the first to speak, breaking such an awkward silence as Adella’s heart rate begins to quickly pick up; I can hear it from here. She is about to either run or scream. “The human!” Trace announces in confusion, alerting the others as to what needs to be done. “Take her!” My body tenses up… But it seems that Adella has other ideas. Suddenly and without warning she slams the door closed in his face and I hear the sound of it being locked on the other side as the vamp attempts to grab at the door handle, smashing into the door with his right shoulder in desperation to get inside. The other two immediately turn on me, their eyes glowing brightly enough that I can see their neon blue hue through the darkness of their sunglasses. Their faces contort into furious snarls and their fangs are bared as they officially challenge me. “Jax, kill him!” Trace commands the one with the long white hair. I assume his name is Jax… Jax charges me and I immediately unsheathe both daggers. With one swift spin around I have decapitated his head from his body. I stand posed as my eyes now fixate on Trace. The vamp behind me falls down to his knees slowly as his body begins to dissolve into nothing but blackened ash. I can hear the sound of his head ‘plopping’ to the floor below before it dissolves entirely along with the body and within a matter of seconds. I know the sound well enough. I’ve heard it many times in my line of work. Trace seems stunned by my actions, deciding to quickly pull out what appears to be a automatic handgun. I can only guess it’s loaded with silver bullets and my body immediately reacts towards the imminent threat. I jump and roll out of sight, disappearing behind one of the adjourning doorways leading into the kitchen, leaving him to stand aiming a gun at nothing but shadows. These men have no idea of how f****d they are… This is my place and I have weapons hidden everywhere for situations such as this one. And now it’s time to take out the trash. - Adella; The deepened thumps against the metal door echo over and over in my ears as I back myself into a desk located against the wall on the opposite end of the room I am now stuck inside. My entire body is shaking with fear as I try to think under such difficult circumstances. I can’t seem to form a singular thought with the continued banging piercing my ears. ‘What do these men want from me?’ My gasps reoccur each time I hear the loud ‘thud’ against the door. I know it will cave inwards at any moment and I brace myself for whatever is about to happen to me. A feeling of doom begins to take over, until… My finger finds something solid, a lever of some sort, buried underneath the desk I am backed against. I turn my head around as my fingers grasp at the lever and grip it firmly. Pulling it down a secretly hidden draw slides out from underneath the desk, revealing an assortment of weapons! My emerald eyes widen with shock at the three different types of hand guns and several different blades. They all appear to be made of the same thing; silver. Silver? Why silver? “What the…“ ‘’CRASH!’ I am quickly spun around by the sound of the door crashing inwards and I reach for the nearest gun, lifting it and squeezing the trigger in a state of panic, all within the matter of a second or two. ‘BANG!’ The roaring sound of the gun firing almost deafens me as I am almost thrown back against the desk by the blunt force of the gunshot. I watch as if by some miracle I actually hit the man charging towards me directly in his left shoulder. He snarls, pushed back by the impact and forced to cradle at his new wound. Dark crimson blood begins to flow out of his newly-formed wound, glistening in the dim lighting of the room. His head now turns towards me and his eyes meet mine. The air from my lungs is immediately sucked out… his eyes appear to glow a bright blue colour! “You’re a f*****g vampire!” I mutter beneath my breath as the realisation suddenly hits me. “No shit.” he snarls, taking one slow step at a time. Once again I lift the gun up, aiming it blindly at him as my brows furrow in fear and I fight to control my rapid breathing. “Stay back!” I command, though I can tell he chooses not to heed my warning. “I mean it! I’ll shoot you, I swear!” “I like my chances little one.” the vampire boasts, grinning ear to ear. “I said stay back!” I shout now, forcing myself to get angry in an effort to fill my body with the necessary adrenalin it needs in such a difficult situation. Once again, he ignores my threats and takes another step in closer towards me. “I wonder just how amazing your blood tastes…” he taunts, tilting his head to the side ever so slightly. My face contorts in disgust at such an idea. His neon blue eyes are terrifyingly void of life and I watch as he steps forward again, this time closing the gap between us until he is within reaching distance of me. “I’ve always wanted to taste the blood of a Euphoric…” I’m beyond terrified right now. My body refuses to move even an inch as I am forced to stand and stare into his lifeless eyes. The gun is still held out in front of me, between the two of us. “Please…” I find myself begging as my body betrays me. He reaches out his hand slowly and grasps the top of the gun, along with my grip on it. His hand forces mine down slowly and I can’t understand why I am unable to fight against him. Why my body won’t do anything! “Let’s see what all the fuss is about… shall we?” I hear him say softly, menacingly before he steps up right in front of me, close enough for me to smell the scent of his breath wafting across my face. ‘I’m about to die! A fricking vampire is about to feed on my blood!’ I can feel my pulse throbbing loudly over and over within my head and I furrow my brows as I decide to accept my inevitable fate. “I bet you taste sweeter than anything I’ve ever tasted, little one…” he coos. Then he reaches out, grasps the side of my face and forces my head to tilt to the side, baring my open neck to him. I close my eyes and whimper with horror, waiting for the pain I know is sure to come… ‘Zip!’ The sound is unfamiliar to me, but the sound of gurgling following it seems somewhat obvious and causes me to open my eyes again and take a look. The vampire’s eyes are wide with apparent fear as he continues to stare directly at me. It’s only then I notice the trail of crimson blood pouring out from the corner of his mouth which is also wide open in surprise. I gasp softly. My eyes lower and see the cause; there seems to be a fricking dagger sticking out of the front of his neck, bathed in his darkened crimson blood. My eyes move over his shoulder and see the one responsible. My handsome kidnapper! He stands behind the vampire, holding onto something that looks similar to a gun, but has a long silver chain attached to it. The chain is linked all the way up to meet the blade sticking out of the vampire’s throat and I realise what’s happened. Within the fraction of a second Zane pulls at the chain and it zips right back inside of the gun, the chain disappearing from sight and wrenching a huge hole in my attacker’s throat. Blood spurts out all over the place, including my face and chest as the vamp gasps, holding at his open neck as he falls down onto the floor before me. A large pool of his life’s liquid begins to spread out across the floor as he squirms around helplessly. I look down at him and watch as he slowly dies before my very eyes. I can feel the blood drain from my head and seconds later everything goes dark. -   Zane; Hmmm… Apparently the sight of a vampire bleeding out before her very eyes was a little too much for poor Adella, who suddenly faints and falls to the floor. Her body almost hits the ground before I manage to use my Vamperic speed to reach her. I catch her limp body and pick her back up, carrying her across towards the bed. Once I have laid her out across the mattress I turn and assess the situation we now find ourselves in. One word comes to mind as I take it all in… ‘Crap!’
