Kaira’s eyes flickered open. She saw black rock moving past and struggled to understand how. After a few moments she realised Tarkus was carrying her, cradling her in his arms. As her hearing returned she smiled at the fact he was cursing imaginatively as he went. The pain from the devices within her body had eased, but it hadn’t gone. Her body was being burnt up from the inside out and she was sure she didn’t have long left. She opened her mouth to try and tell Tarkus to leave her, but nothing came out. The walls disappeared and all she could see around her was rock, but it was nothing like it had been. Every part had been melted. Most of it looked like black glass now, but some parts were still bubbling. Tarkus continued to move forward, then half turned as he moved to the airl
