Kaira managed to get to sleep, but staying that way was a lot harder. She kept waking with a start from dreams where either the Glimmer was being torn apart by the fire from pirate ships, or where she was hunted through its rooms and then shot. After the tenth or twelfth time the fear of dropping into another such dream outweighed the bone weariness she felt. She clambered out of bed and headed to the upper deck, hoping to find Tarkus. The flight deck was still locked when she tried it, and when she checked the kitchen area there was no sign of him. She paused, thinking. He might be on the flight deck, but if so the locked door was a clear sign he didn't want to be disturbed. And if he was in his room he might well be sleeping.
