Kaira had been awake long enough to have a quick shower and was now sitting down to eat. As she worked her way through the ration bar she wondered whether Tarkus really ate the bars or had something better. She shrugged. Either way, she was grateful to have anything to eat after the bars she’d paid for had turned out to be defective.
Tarkus’s voice suddenly boomed out in the room.
“We’ll be docking at Vocandus in twenty minutes. Get your stuff ready. I want you gone as soon as we arrive.”
The message cut off as abruptly as it had begun. Kaira took a deep breath. This was it. This was where she found out what Tarkus would really do. Whether he would truly see her on her way… or turn her over to the authorities.
