Chapter 5: A Dark Revelation As Johnathan and Lily celebrated their return from honeymoon, they were unaware that someone had been watching them all along. This mysterious observer had been lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike. His name was Victor, a former associate of Marcus who had his own vendetta against Johnathan. Victor had been following their every move, gathering information and planning his revenge. He blamed Johnathan for Marcus’s death and saw Lily as the perfect pawn to exact his vengeance. Victor’s plan was to kidnap Lily and force Johnathan into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. One night, as Johnathan and Lily were returning home from a celebratory dinner, Victor made his move. The night was supposed to be one of celebration. Johnathan and Lily had just returned from their honeymoon and celebrated it with their closest friends and family. The evening had been filled with laughter, toasts, and promises of a bright future. As they returned to Johnathan’s penthouse, they were both filled with a sense of joy and anticipation. But as they stepped out of the elevator and into the hallway, a sense of unease washed over Johnathan. The air felt heavy, and the usually quiet corridor seemed eerily silent. He glanced at Lily, who was chatting happily about the evening, oblivious to the tension building within him. As they reached the door to the penthouse, Johnathan’s instincts screamed at him to be cautious. He paused, his hand hovering over the doorknob. “Lily, wait,” he said, his voice low and urgent. Lily stopped mid-sentence, her eyes widening with concern. “What is it, Johnathan?” Before he could respond, the door burst open, and a figure lunged at them. Johnathan barely had time to react as he was shoved aside, and Lily was grabbed by a man dressed in black. The man held a gun to her head, his eyes cold and calculating. “Don’t move, Steele,” the man growled. “Or she dies.” Johnathan’s heart pounded in his chest as he raised his hands in surrender. “Who are you? What do you want?” The man smirked, his grip on Lily tightening. “The name’s Victor. I’m here to settle a score.” Victor forced them into the penthouse, locking the door behind them. He pushed Lily onto the couch, keeping the gun trained on her. Johnathan’s mind raced as he tried to think of a way to defuse the situation. “Victor, please,” Johnathan said, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at him. “Let’s talk about this. You don’t have to do this.” Victor’s eyes flashed with anger. “Oh, but I do. You see, Steele, you took something from me. Marcus was my partner, my friend. And you killed him.” Unknowing to Johnathan that Marcus died that night. Johnathan’s heart sank as he realized the depth of Victor’s hatred. “It was an accident. I didn’t mean to kill him.” Victor laughed, a harsh, bitter sound. “Accident or not, he’s dead. And now, you’re going to pay.” He pulled out a phone and tossed it to Johnathan. “You’re going to follow my instructions, Steele. If you don’t, Lily dies. If you try to call the police, Lily dies. If you try to run, Lily dies. Do you understand?” Johnathan nodded, his mind racing with possibilities. He had to find a way to save Lily without putting her in more danger. “What do you want me to do?” Victor’s smile was cold and calculating. “You’re going to transfer a hundred million dollars to an account I specify. And then, you’re going to ruin your own company. I want to see you lose everything, Steele. Just like I did.” Johnathan’s blood ran cold at the thought of destroying everything he had worked so hard to build. But he knew he had no choice. Lily’s life was at stake, and he would do anything to protect her. As Victor dictated the account details, Johnathan’s mind raced with thoughts of how to outsmart him. He needed to buy time, to find a way to turn the tables. He glanced at Lily, who was watching him with wide, fearful eyes. He had to stay strong for her. “Alright, I’ll do it,” Johnathan said, his voice steady. “Just don’t hurt her.” Victor’s smile widened. “Good. Now, get to work.” Johnathan sat at his desk, his fingers trembling as he began the transfer. He knew he had to find a way to alert someone, to get help without Victor noticing. As he typed, he subtly activated a hidden security feature on his computer, sending a silent alarm to his head of security, David. David had been with Johnathan for years, and he knew the man would understand the urgency of the situation. Johnathan just hoped he would get the message in time. As the transfer progressed, Victor’s eyes never left Johnathan. The tension in the room was palpable, and Johnathan could feel the weight of every second ticking by. He had to stay calm, to think clearly. Finally, the transfer was complete. Victor checked his phone, confirming the transaction. “Good. Now, for the second part of our deal.” Johnathan’s heart pounded as he prepared to sabotage his own company. He knew this would be the hardest part, but he had to stay focused. He began to execute the commands that would cripple Steele Enterprises, all the while praying that David would arrive soon. Just as he was about to complete the final step, the sound of sirens filled the air. Victor’s eyes widened in panic, and he turned to Johnathan with a snarl. “What did you do?” Before Johnathan could respond, the door burst open, and David and his team stormed in. Victor fired his gun, but David was quicker, tackling him to the ground. The room erupted into chaos as the security team subdued Victor and secured the area. Johnathan rushed to Lily, pulling her into his arms. “Are you okay?” Lily nodded, tears streaming down her face. “I am now, thanks to you.” David approached them, his expression grim. “We need to get you both to safety. There might be more of them.” Johnathan nodded, his mind still reeling from the events of the night. As they left the penthouse, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief. They had survived, but he knew their ordeal was far from over.
