Sometimes, everything changes because of one small thing.
For Amina and Idris, it was a message.
A message that arrived on a normal evening and changed everything they thought they knew.
Amina noticed Idris becoming distant again.
Their conversations became shorter.
The laughter became less frequent.
And the boy who once searched for her in every room suddenly seemed to be avoiding her.
She tried to convince herself that she was imagining it.
But deep down, she knew something was wrong.
One day, she finally stopped him.
“Idris, did I do something?”
He looked surprised.
“No.”
“Then why do you feel so far away?”
He looked away.
“I’m trying to protect you.”
Amina frowned. “Protect me from what?”
He stayed silent.
That silence hurt more than any answer could have.
“Idris, you can’t decide what’s best for me without letting me choose.”
His eyes met hers.
And for a moment, she saw the sadness he had been hiding.
“I’m scared, Amina.”
Those words caught her off guard.
Not because he was afraid.
But because Idris was finally admitting it.
“I’m scared that if you know everything about me, you’ll look at me differently.”
Amina stepped closer.
“Maybe I will,” she said honestly.
His expression changed.
“But not because you’re not enough,” she continued. “Because I’ll understand you more.”
The silence between them felt heavy.
Then Idris smiled faintly.
“You always know what to say.”
“No,” Amina replied. “I just know what I wish someone would say to me.”
That night, they both realized something.
Love was not about finding someone perfect.
It was about finding someone who made you feel safe enough to be imperfect.
But neither of them knew that the biggest challenge was still waiting.
Because sometimes, the hardest part of loving someone isn’t falling for them.
