CHAPTER 3: UNWANTED COMPANY

527 Words
We waited a few more minutes when the bus arrived. "Sawakas, makakatakas na ako sa lalaking ito, pero bago pa ako makasakay, bigla niyang hinatak ang bag ko at tumawa. "Ashira, saan ka pupunta sa Munoz? Alam mo kaya ka naliligaw eh. I thought you were smart; it turns out you can't even read. HAHAHA! No wonder you are miss rank 2," pang-aasar niya sa akin na kala mo naman kinapogi niya. 'I-I know that! I'm just testing if you know it,' I said, trying to trick him. I kept avoiding his gaze; I could feel my cheeks burning. This is so annoying; he can use this to blackmail me!" "Wala na bang mamamalas pa ang araw na ito?" tanong ko sa sarili ko. While I was zoning out, a hand suddenly grabbed mine. It was Desmond. "Come on, malalate pa tayo, tangeks," Desmond said as if I were a child he was talking to. He purposefully turned his voice to a high pitch. It's super annoying, but I didn't resist and got on the bus; after all, I wouldn't know what to do if I were alone. Not long after, we finally arrived at the university. I made sure to get out first and run away from Desmond as soon as possible. It's been almost an hour sitting in his class, and I can feel my classmates falling asleep one by one. These people just can't value education, can they? I thought to myself. After quite some time, the class ended before I even realized it. I was the last to leave the classroom simply because I didn't like walking with those imbeciles and wanted to avoid Desmond altogether. I went straight to the cafeteria where my friend Alice was waiting. It wasn't long before she spotted me. "ASH!" Her voice is so cheerful that I swear it could light up the entire world. She waved a hand so bubbly that I swear she's just a child. I smiled back at her, walked towards her table, and sat down across from her. Alice has been my friend for years; we are both on an ice skating team. Beside her sits her twin brother, Alister, a roller skating athlete, although I have never seen him close to Desmond despite being on the same team. "Ash, the exam is coming soon. Do you want to study together? We can stay overnight at my house," Alice said with her sweet, delicate voice. "Okay lang naman kung okay lang sa parents mo. I can't see why not," sagot ko sakanya. She started clapping as I said that. We ate in peace, talking about nonsense, academics, sports, and chismis, of course. Until the roller skates team came walking towards us. Of course they did. I'm not against them, but they really suck—typical male athletes (stereotype). just right on cue to ruin my peaceful lunch
