Zane

Knight hasn’t said a word since he found out about Elle’s wolf retreating. There is a possibility that his mate may never come back. Knight waited our whole lives for his mate. He has always made sure that we waited for our mate. When I dated Katie in high school, Knight was so pissed at me he made my life a living hell. I didn't know why but he always said that we needed to wait for our mate and so I broke up with Katie and I did just that. I knew it was unusual for Alphas to wait for their mates, but if Knight had felt so strongly about this, then I did too.

I climbed into the bed next to her and held her. The sparks and tingles were so faint now I worried me but I had to stay strong for her, for Knight and for my own sanity. Dr. Albert said that my closeness would help her to recover faster, so I held her and pulled her closer, since she wasn’t hooked up to monitors. I was able to hold her without any issues. I whispered to her, hoping that she would be able to hear me. Elle, please come back to me. I need you more than you ever know. Knight and I both need you two to get through this. I will be right by your side when you wake up. I lay there in silence for a while hoping that maybe her breathing would increase and she would at least stir, but nothing. I buried my face within her hair, inhaling her scent. It relaxed me a bit and before I knew it I drifted off into an unsettling sleep.

It was now six in the morning. I barely slept a wink last night. I wanted to make sure she was still breathing so I kept waking up to make sure that she was still alive even though Dr. Albert said she would recover. The uncertainty was slowly killing me. I looked over at her and she was still breathing and looked so peaceful. I decided today I would bring her to my suite. I felt like it would be a better healing environment for her rather than her being in this hospital bed. I mind-linked the cooks and the cleaners to please make sure my room was clean and to have breakfast brought up. Though I didn’t have an appetite, I knew I had to be the best version of myself so that I could be there for her. I was worried about her not eating so I decided to mind-link Dr. Albert to find out what his plan was going to be for this? I wanted her to receive the best care to give her the best fighting chance at a full recovery. In 15 minutes Dr. Albert was in the room checking on Elle.

Dr. Albert

Alpha we can place an IV catheter in her vein to give her some fluids. We can also use a tube through her nose into her stomach to feed her. The IV fluids will keep her hydrated and we can put liquid foods down the tube in her nose.

Zane

I hated the thought of having a tube down her nose but I would do anything to keep her alive so I agreed to it. I double checked with him to make sure that taking her to my suite would still be fine, since she would receive the IV and the nasal tube. I didn’t know if she would need to be closely monitored now.

Dr. Albert

Yes, it would be best for her to be in your suite. It is your personal space and will probably be best for her healing. Once you get her settled into your room, I will bring my supplies and I will place the IV along with the tube so it doesn't get pulled out on the way up to your suite. I’ll go check on everyone else now. Mind-link me when you are ready for me to come up.

Zane

After he walked away, I mind-linked Alfie to bring the SUV to the front of the hospital. I looked over at everyone. They all seemed to be on the mend. They were talking more and asking for food. Dr. Albert wanted to keep them for one more day to run more tests to make sure all of the wolves' bane was out of their systems and that they didn’t sustain any lasting damage. Alfie mind-linked me that he was waiting up front. I scooped Elle up and held her carefully as I walked to the door. The guards in front of the room opened it up for me and I started walking out to the front door to meet Alfie.

Katie

I bolted up when my wolf mentioned that someone was coming out of the room. I must have fallen asleep. I waited in this waiting room all night for him to leave or atleast her to leave. I just didn’t understand what was keeping them so long. I saw Dr. Albert and the nurses all rushed into there at one point. I wonder if things have gotten worse. Was that b***h a healer or maybe she was a witch? Yeah that’s probably a white witch, one of those ones who mixes potions to help with healing. I needed to find out what she is or who she is, for that matter. When Zane walked out of the room holding her limp body, my whole body shook with rage. Why was he carrying her? Was she dead? I hope she was, she better be or I would kill her myself. I was about to approach him when Alfie walked in. His eyes looked saddened when he saw her.

What the f**k is wrong with everyone? Who was this b***h? Then the most upsetting part about all of this was when Alfie offered to carry her to the SUV. Zane let out the most guttural growl I'd ever heard in my life. It almost made my wolf crawl to the back of my mind. He let out his Alpha aurora. It shocked me he doesn’t do this often, so the fact that he did this just because of her literally made me want to rip her f*****g face off. Alfie quickly bowed his head with respect and followed closely behind as they approached the van. Why was he so possessive over this witch b***h? Did she do some kind of magic on him? A spell of some sort? I had no clue what everyone’s obsession was with her, but I would find out! I waited until the SUV pulled off, then shifted into my wolf and followed it. Hopefully, he was taking her back to her coven so that I could see where she lived.

Zane

I tried to calm myself down by inhaling her scent as I got into the car. When Alfie offered to carry her, the possessive side of me came out. I didn’t want anyone next to her or touching her. I knew he meant well and was just trying to help, but with the current situation I couldn’t control my anger. I mind-linked him an apology right after I did it. I knew I over reacted. He quickly bowed his head and followed us as we made our way into the car. I held her close to me as we took the short ride to the pack house. The head chef mind-linked me that my room was in perfect shape and that my breakfast was already in my room. When we arrived at the pack house, all eyes were on me or, to be more precise, Elle. I am sure they were wondering who this mysterious woman was in my arms. They all looked on worriedly as I made my way to the elevators and the door closed. I pushed the button for my floor and inpatiently waited. I wanted her to be comfortable and I also wanted to get her settled in quickly so that I could get Dr. Albert over her. When I got into my room, I gently lowered her to the bed. Making sure that her head and neck were comfortable.

I was about to mindlink Dr. Albert when there was a knock on my door. Who the f**k was that I thought to myself as I made my way towards the door. My mind immediately thought of Katie. I swear if it was her I wouldn’t even need Knight present to rip her apart. I opened the door angrily. I was surprised to see that Alfie was holding a cell phone in his hand. I looked at him questioningly.

Alfie

Alpha, I know that you don’t want to be disturbed right now, but I wanted to bring this. It belongs to Elle. She left it in the helicopter yesterday when she left in a rush to get to you. It made a sound earlier so I think maybe someone was trying to contact her. Anyway, I just wanted you to have it for when she wakes up.

Zane

Thank you Alfie, I said as he took the phone out of his hand. I still felt bad about my outburst earlier. Alfie has always been a great friend and a loyal guard; he definitely didn’t deserve it . He would understand in the future when he found out that she was my mate. We wolves know how possessive we get over our mates, especially when another man tries to get close to them. It didn’t justify what I did because it was wrong, but I knew he would understand. Alfie nodded and then walked away. I closed the door and turned towards Elle to make sure she was still okay. Then I looked at her phone. I hoped that there wasn't a password or I wouldn’t be able to let her friends know what was going on. I know she didn’t have any parents and they were the closest family that she had. I tapped the screen and felt relieved when it lit up and there were no locks on it. I saw a message from someone named Arie. Yes, I remember her telling me about her friends Talia and Arie. I clicked on the message and then hit the phone icon. I figured that it should be a phone conversation, not a text. It rang a few times and then a somewhat familiar voice answered.

If I had to guess, I would say this is Talia. It sounded just like the girl on the roof the other night. By the way she answered, teasing Elle, I was sure it was her now. When she heard my voice instead of Elle’s, she immediately got quiet. I explained to her that she needed to come to my pack. I didn't want to explain in detail what happened. I figured it would be a better conversation to have in person. She asked for me to put Elle on the phone and when I told her I couldn’t, she lost it. She threatened to burn my pack to the ground. I didn’t take kindly to threats, but considering the circumstances and that she was Elle’s best friend, I let it slide. If I were in their shoes, I would be angry too, especially not knowing exactly what was going on. After I hung up, I texted them the address. It would take them some time to get here, considering they are probably still at the hotel from the summit. I mind-link Dr. Albert telling him that Elle was settled and that he could come and place the IV and the feeding tube whenever he was ready. He replied saying that he would be there as soon as possible. I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. I looked over at the breakfast plates that were on the dining room table in the other room. I had no appetite but I knew it was best to eat to keep my strength. I didn’t know if it made a difference, but I wanted to make sure that I was at my best if me being around Elle would heal her. I mind-inked the guards at the gate that there would be two visitors from another pack coming soon and to let them in. I walked over to the table, staring at the plates. One was piled high with bacon and eggs, the others had various sides. I looked over at the fruit plate and it had mangoes on it, one of my favorite fruits. I picked up a slice and started to eat. Usually, food always makes me happy, but today I was eating not for enjoyment but out of necessity.

Arie

We all loaded into the car, Talia screaming curses at the top of her lungs and threatening to cut Zanes d**k off if he rejected Elle or caused her harm. Usually, I don't agree with Talia about many things because she can be dramatic sometimes, but I am right on board with her. If he purposely hurt Elle, I would drown him. It’s the one special power that I have other than being a wolf, being part Mermaid allows me to have control of water. I was always addicted to water as a child. I didn't know why. I was the fastest swimmer on my high school swim team. Our parents were really good at hiding what we were. They all left letters for us in case something happened to them. In my letter I found out that my mom wasn’t just a human but a mermaid. She saw my father when he was swimming one day and felt an instant attraction she just couldn’t shake. She transformed herself into human form, as mermaids can switch between both quite easily; she pretended to bump into him one day when he went for a swim. What she hadn’t realized was that he was a wolf and they were fated mates from that day forward. My mom very rarely visited the sea. She would go for swims occasionally to visit family but always returned to my father. To say I was shocked when I found out was an understatement. It all made sense, my attraction to water, my almost inhuman ability to beat swimming records with ease. I was even more shocked to see that I had a few powers when it came to water. Though I didn’t have anyone to teach me, I practiced as much as I could and even with Elle, since water was also one of the elements she could control. I became better and better. If Zane caused any harm to my sister I would not hesitate to use them.

I was jolted out of my thoughts when I realized that we had already snapped an alleyway. I sat quietly listening to Talia and Alex. Talia was out for blood. I am not one for confrontation unless absolutely necessary. This was definitely a necessity. I planned on listening to what he had to say first but he had better have a good reason for all of this. We drove for about ten minutes to the entrance of the crimson moon pack. There were patrols and guards everywhere. This place was more secure than Fort Knox. We pulled up to the entrance and to our surprise they nodded and opened the gate. We drove up the pathway. This pack was way bigger than ours. It took us another ten minutes to even make it to the pack house. When we arrived at the pack house we all got out anxiously, anticipating what state Elle would be in. We knocked on the door and were pleasantly welcomed in. We were told to follow the same guy who was at Elle’s door that day at the summit. He led us to the elevator and we all waited in awkward silence while it approached the floor we needed. Talia stared at him but instead of lust it was a death glare. If looks could kill, he would be dead. The elevator pinged and we all stepped off. The guy walks us up to a massive door. He then stopped and we followed suit. He knocked and we waited for an answer. The door opened and Zane stepped out and invited us in. He stepped out of the way and we all walked into the room. We all saw Elle in bed and ran over to her. Talia was calling her name and trying to wake her up, but there was no answer. It was as if she was in a deep sleep. What did you do to her, I shouted? Zane's face looked pained, he answered.

Zane

Her wolf had retreated. She healed four of my high-ranking pack members from the brink of death. They are all alive. She collapsed in my arms last night and hasn’t awakened since.

Talia

Are you crazy? You made her heal not one but four people all at the same time? Elle hasn’t healed anything more than minor injuries; the closest thing to a major injury that Elle has healed is a C-Section cut. I can’t believe you made her do this! You are her mate, you are supposed to protect her.

Zane

She was right. I was supposed to protect her and I failed.

Talia

Why is she even in your room? Why isn’t she in the hospital receiving treatment?

Zane

The doctor recommended that she stay close to me so that she recovers faster. He will be here soon to check on her. She doesn't have to be connected to monitors; they already ran all the tests yesterday. I know you are mad right now, Talia, and justifiably so, but I promise I would never do anything to hurt Elle.

Arie

Talia was very hot-headed. It was her werebear side she couldn’t help it and sometimes it made her irrational. I looked up at Zane. I could tell he genuinely cared for Elle. I answered him before Talia could. We believe you, Zane, we know you wouldn’t hurt her. Talia huffed but I didn’t care. If Zane didn’t care about Elle, he wouldn’t be by her side at all. He probably wouldn’t even have called us to begin with. Zane’s phone rang, he pulled it out of his pocket and looked at it. He hit the ignore button and then apologized.

Talia

Look, I am sorry Zane, it’s just that Elle means so much to us. Seeing her like this isn’t easy. We appreciate you letting us come to see her. When will the Doctor be here?

Zane

Even though I would never tolerate anyone talking to me the way Talia did, especially in my territory, I let it slide. I could tell she genuinely was frightened about what was happening to her best friend and I couldn’t blame her. Sometimes things like this bring out the worst in people. The doctor should be here any minute. I stated they all nodded with understanding.

Talia

Zane, would it be too much to ask for us to have a few moments alone with her?

Zane

I hesitated for a bit. I promised not to let Elle out of my sight, but after all, they were her closest friends, practically family. I didn’t want to leave her, but I guess a few minutes away from her shouldn’t be too bad. Besides, my father called just a few minutes ago and I needed to tell him about everything that happened, especially since they were all fine, so I didn't have to break the sad news to them. I decided to withhold information about Elle until they got home. If my mom found out I had not only found my mate but now she is in the state that she was in, she would never let me live it down and I just didn’t need the extra stress right now. I looked up at Talia and answered. I have to make a quick phone call. I will be right down the hall for a few minutes. She smiled a genuine smile and muttered a thank you. I took another glance at Elle and then I headed towards the door, pulling the phone out of my pocket to make my phone call.

Talia

Guys we need to brainstorm here.

Arie

Brainstorm about what? Talia. I think Zane is doing everything he can for her. She is in great hands. Maybe we can ask to stay here for a while until she awakes.

Talia

No, Arie, she can’t stay like this the whole time. She needs nutrition and at least some hydration. God knows how long it’s going to take her to wake up but we have to get her better help. Alex, what do you think?

Alex

Maybe I can bring my grandmother here. Maybe she can help her to heal faster with her healing herbs?

Talia

I got a better idea.

Zane

I was standing in the hall talking to my father. He was not happy to hear about the events that unfolded. Fortunately, I was able to reassure him that everything was fixed now. I looked over to the stairs and saw Dr. Albert approaching. I nodded to him and pointed towards my suite, telling him it was okay for him to enter. Dr. Albert smiled and made his way down the hall. He knocked on the door and walked in. I was about to wrap things up with my dad when I heard his voice filled with sheer panic as he ran back down the hall.

Dr. Albert

Alpha Where is Elle?

Zane

I instantly hung up the phone without even saying goodbye! What do you mean where is Elle? She is in there with her friends, I shouted. He looked at me puzzled. I ran towards the room in sheer panic. She wasn’t there, none of them were! I couldn’t feel Knight reemerging from the depths of my mind. A loud growl left my throat so loud the glass shattered and Dr. Albert hovered in the corner. Where the f**k were they? How did they leave? I needed to be around her or her to heal! If she died, I would never forgive them.

I thought about the whole scenario. Then I realized that the guy that was with them was the same one who was with them at the club that night before she disappeared. He did this. He must have the ability to teleport or something, no wonder why they got here so fast! How could I be so stupid to leave her? My mind was racing. Knight wanted to tear everything apart. I needed to find her. There was only one person who could help me. I looked over on the bed and thankfully they left her phone there. I grabbed it and quickly ran to grab my laptop, then I rushed out of the pack house straight to the hospital. I needed Allen’s help.

When I got there, I handed him the laptop and I asked all the nurses to leave the room. When I was sure they were gone, I told Allen I needed his help. I know you aren’t one hundred percent, but I need you to help me save my mate. Without me, she might never recover. Allen looked at me and immediately went to work.

Allen

Do you have any idea where she might be?

Zane

Yes, her pack and her friends took her back there, I am sure of that.

Allen

Do you know where it was located?

Zane

No, but I was hoping that you could track her best friends' number and we would be able to get a general location. I handed him the phone. He picked it up and looked at the two phone numbers he placed in the tracking software and within minutes he found the location.

Allen

I found it. It's two hours away.

Zane

Thank you man. I don’t know how I would ever repay you

Allen

There’s nothing to repay you and your mate saved our lives and for that we will forever be grateful.

Zane

I was thankful that they were alive. I couldn't imagine life without them. Without time to waste, I told Allen that I would come back to see them later after I got Elle. To my surprise, Allen got up out of bed.

Allen

I am coming with you, Zane. You don’t have to do this alone. I owe you that much.

Zane

Are you sure you are up for it?

Allen

Did you think a little wolf’s bane could take me out?

Zane

We both laughed and we started heading out when Luca, Kieara and Owen all stood up.

Luca

We are fully healed Zane Dr. Albert is just paranoid. You go and get your mate. We will take care of everything back here and if you need back up we will be right there.

Kieara

Hurry up and bring her home. I am tired of being the only girl in the group.

Owen

Yes, hurry up and bring another girl here. Maybe she will finally get off my ass about when I am going to find my mate.

Zane

God, I missed these guys and I have them all back because of my angel. I needed to go get her. I took one last glance at them and then headed out the door. We all loaded up in the helicopter as it would be much faster, forty-five minutes or so instead of two hours, we headed to the Sapphire Pack.

When I realized what Talia wanted to do, I tried to talk her out of it. Talia, I don’t think it is a good idea. We should just bring Mrs. Rose here. You heard what Zane said she needed to be with him to recover.

Talia

I think he is just saying that to prevent us from taking her. She needs to be at home and with someone who has a wealth of knowledge on how to treat illnesses. Mrs. Rose is the best chance of survival at this point.

Arie

I shook my head in annoyance. This was ridiculous, but I was outnumbered. It was two against one, so they were going to do it regardless. I made sure to leave Elle’s phone behind so that, hopefully, Zane was smart enough to track it and would be able to find our pack. I heard that being without your mate could literally drive you insane and I couldn’t imagine how he was going to take this all, especially knowing that Elle is not well. I sighed when Alex popped us all out of there. I knew it was only a matter of time before all hell broke loose. Alex snapped us straight to the pack hospital. Mrs. Rose was already waiting. She took one look at Elle and burst into tears. She then ran over to the table and started mixing her healing herbs. It took her about thirty minutes or so to get her mixture correct. She placed it into a syringe and then injected Elle with it. Elle’s body jolted and her breathing was now stronger and less shallow. What was that I asked?

Mrs. Rose

It is the fairy version of human epinephrine. It should slowly jolt her body into consciousness. Though I do believe her mate is correct, she may need him to fully awaken. She will awake but we need to call her mate and get him here.

Arie

I looked at Talia with annoyance. This could have all been avoided if we had just brought Mrs. Rose to the Crimson Moon pack instead. Now we didn’t have Zanes' number and I am sure he wouldn’t be too happy to see one of us right now.

Talia

Zane’s number should be on Elle’s phone; we can just use it to call him.

Arie

We forgot it there, I said sarcastically. Though I intentionally left it there, I wouldn’t tell her that I wanted her to feel guilty for her impulsiveness. She couldn’t just keep doing what she wanted without thinking about the consequences. For the first time since this whole ordeal, I saw her face and it looked defeated. I felt kind of bad for her. I knew she just wanted Elle safe.

Talia

I’ll have Alex snap me back and explain everything, then I will bring him back here. Come on Alex, let’s get going….

Arie

Before she could finish her sentence, we all got a mind link that there was a strange helicopter spotted that was getting closer to pack territory. Alex bolted out first. We all followed. There were now warrior wolves and fairies lining up the center of the courtyard as this helicopter tried to land. I knew immediately it had to be Zane. I mind-linked my thoughts to Talia and she agreed. Talia started rushing over and I followed suit. We ordered the warriors to stand down. As the helicopter landed, we waited for Zane to step out. When he got out you could tell he was livid. Who could blame him? His eyes were red. It was very unsettling, to say the least. He was fighting hard to control his wolf at that point.

Zane

Where is Elle??!! I am here to take her with me!

Talia

Listen here. Zane doesn't come to our pack making demands! She is staying here. You are more than welcome to stay here with her but she isn’t….

Arie

Before Talia could finish her statement, there was a wolf rushing out behind Zane. It all happened so fast it caught us all off guard at how fast he was and then I heard the words MATE!!!
