FARAH I read it in one sitting. The book is dense and archaic and takes all of my concentration to navigate, the language formal and layered in the way of texts written by people who believed that clarity was a form of condescension. But I read it slowly and carefully and I cross reference it against everything I have already found in the other texts and the picture that assembles itself over the course of the evening is both exactly what I expected and nothing like it. The curse was not designed to punish forever. I sit with this for a long time after I’ve read the relevant passages three times to make sure I am finding what is actually there.
