As I sat in the hospital, I couldn't help but replay the tragic events that had unfolded. My four best friends and I had attempted to save a woman, only to become victims of a heinous crime we knew nothing about. The consequences were devastating: I was crippled, and my friends were gone.

We had been inseparable, living together on the military base as recruit students. Kojo, Kwame, Emmanuel, Eboo, and I, Danso, were more than just friends - we were brothers. Our ages ranged from 21 to 23, and we shared a deep bond. We resided in a spacious apartment, each with our own room, and we would often cook and eat together.

Every Friday night, we would venture out to unwind and have a good time. Eboo owned a car, which made our outings even more enjoyable. But one fateful Friday, as we were preparing for our usual night out, something unexpected happened...

That fateful Friday, as we prepared for our usual night out, an unexpected disturbance shattered the calm. As we were about to leave our apartment, we heard a heated exchange of insults and a woman's scream from the neighboring apartment. We rushed outside and caught a glimpse of a soldier hastily departing the scene, unaware of our presence.

A debate ensued among us. Three of my friends were adamant that we should investigate what had happened, while Eboo and I were more cautious. However, after a brief discussion, we collectively decided to check on the situation...
