“Henry and I are married.”
“What? Married? How did that happen?” he shouts at my revelation.
“Keep your voice down, Pedro,” I whisper to him.
“Okay, so tell me how this happened.”
“My parents died when I was 16.” I pause. “And my father’s will stated that I had to marry my guardian until I finished college.” At that moment, my eyes are already filling with tears.
“Whoa, Liz!” Pedro is surprised by my revelation.
“So my guardian is Henry, and I didn’t know him, only from a photo Sandra showed me once.”
“What kind of parents do that to their daughter?”
“I know, but I don’t judge them. I think they were afraid I would get lost after their departure.”
“And Henry didn’t know you were his supposed wife?”
“No, he found out the day he came to my house to talk about the divorce.”
