Sandra and I had just gotten back from downtown. I decided to take a shower; it was unbearably hot, and the heat was making me feel nauseous. Stepping into the shower, I let the cold water cascade over my body. I needed to cool down. As I stood there, I felt a slight cramp—confirmation that I wasn’t pregnant. I sighed.
