I started breathing heavily as I stared down at her.
I was aware of the way that the water flowed down my skin. My energy was slowly coming back and I had only her to thank for it.
I contemplated telling her the reason why I did this to myself. I imagined surrendering in her arms.
My lips began to quiver and my brows furrowed as I watched her but that other part of me— the coward in me wanted to push her away— to keep her out of this.
I parted my shaky lips to tell her to forget it when she suddenly held my face in her palms. I saw the way she shuddered under the water and I asked myself when things became this complicated. When did things start to hurt this bad and in that moment, I felt all of my resolve weaken.
Her warmth brought me peace and I could no longer resist.
