Penny's books lay on the coffee table in front of her, beckoning her to enter the written world of fiction. She tried to ignore them and pay attention to the crime show Pierre had on the television. She and Pierre both liked mysteries, thrillers, and cop shows. Now that it was summer, all the shows were in reruns until the seasons started up again. She resisted the impulse to pick up a book.
