Chapter 6

I ran and didn’t stop until I reached my secret spot.  My secret spot had a meadow of moon flowers and a little pond in the middle.  This is where I always go whenever I need to think to myself for a little or when I really want to be left alone.  The smell of the ready-to-bud moon flowers always helps me calm down.  Near the pond, there is a big rock that I would always sit or lean on.  I dipped my feet into the pond, feeling refreshed. I just couldn’t believe that I got angry like that, and where did that power even come from?  Ever since I touched that stupid siren stone, I have been acting strange and Elixa has already noticed it. And after my little scene in the hut, the chief, Liera, and my parents know about it. I swear I wanted to bind my feet together, tie a rock to the end of the rope and sink to the bottom of the ocean. I looked at my reflection and saw that my hair was all messy from the running and the moon flowers in my hair were about to fall out.  I took my hair out and let my hair down. I didn’t realize how long my hair was until now. I calmly combed my hair with my fingers and kept on thinking how I am going to explain my new anger management issues to my parents.  Behind me, I heard footsteps and found Eiress and Sirene behind me. “How did you guys find me?” I asked, disappointed I couldn’t be alone longer than I had hoped. “Our friendship bond,” said Eiress sarcastically.  “Don’t think we don’t know where you go whenever you feel down or pissed off.” “Sorry,” I said, “I was just hoping I could be alone a little longer, but I guess having people to talk to is a lot better.” “You got that right,” cooed Sirene.  “Can you tell us what happened back there?” I was reluctant to tell them what happened.  I mean, after that little show, what else could go wrong.  It’s not like things could get worse this time around. “I got mad at the village chief and went on a little rampage at his house, freezing everything that was in his hut.” “Was he going to tell you the results of your trial before the rest of us?” asked Eiress. “No,” I said, hesitant to tell them what happened in the trial,” I found a special object for my trial and he wanted me to trade with him so that the chief lineage can continue with Liera and not have the village look down on him and his family.” “Special object?” asked Sirene, then gasped at her realization,” Did you find the siren stone?” I nodded my head in response not wanting to say, trying to give them the hint I don’t want to talk about it. ”You found the siren stone during  the trial, and he wanted you to give it up?” I nodded my head again, and I decided to let them know a little more about what happened,” Not only that, going off of what Elixa told me, he and Liera tried to pry the stone out of my hands when they found me unconscious.”  “What a jerk! Only caring about the chief lineage instead of the village.  I would have punched him in the face.” “No you wouldn’t, you’re way too nice for that kind of thing,” said Eiress. “But I would have done it.” “Of course,” I said. We burst out laughing. “Wait, didn’t you say you actually started freezing the furniture in his hut?” Sirene asked.  My moment of silence answered the question for her. “How is that possible? You’ve never been able to use any other magic other than Weaving.” “I don’t know.” “So how are you going to explain this to your parents?” they asked. “I don’t know.  That’s what I am trying to figure out now.” “Well, you can worry about that when you get home, your parents are worried about you since you’ve been gone for a few hours already,” said Eiress. I sighed and we went back to the village.  My parents were waiting outside our hut for me.  When they saw me in their view, my mom ran up to me and hugged me really tight and my dad came up to me with a little cough.  They thanked my friends before we went inside.  My dad gave me a huge lecture in sign language about my behavior in front of the chief and rampage with all of the ice.  While my dad lectured me, my mom braided my hair and put fresh moon flowers in.   As punishment for how I acted today, I wasn’t allowed to have dinner and not go out until tomorrow morning.  I thought they were going to give me a harsher punishment since they didn’t know I was acting strange until they got to the hut.  But, I went to my room and just went to sleep.  Being angry like that and using a power I don’t even know I had or controlled made me feel so exhausted, that I didn’t care if I was hungry. The siren was there again and it looked a little pleased.  I wonder why so I made a little gesture to it.  Of course, it just answered me with a puzzled expression and then splashed water at me. I splashed back and it became all fun.  When I sat down on the rocks to dry myself, the siren slithered out of the water and coiled itself next to me, shrinking so it could be on the rock too.  It looked more like a snake than anything else.  When I stroked its body, the image of that nightmare popped into my head. Everything was burned and many people were dead on the streets, including my parents and friends. I immediately took my hand away from its body.  I was hardly breathing since everything it has shown me has been coming true.  I looked at the siren again and its eyes were wide open.  And they were a different color. They were glowing blue and it’s eyes made it look like a snake.  It looked like it was smiling at me with evil intent.  I wanted to break free of its gaze but it had already lured me in and it had no intention of letting me go free. I slowly felt my body freezing in ice and pulling me into the darkness. The farther I go, the more the ice froze my body.  In the far distance, I saw a light and it was getting warmer and warmer as I got closer. When I finally got close enough to it, I saw my village on fire.  So much smoke, it turned the sky black. Bodies covered the streets with their blood spilling.  Women and children crying as they were forced onto huge ships made of metal in chains.  I screamed but it felt like I couldn’t be heard.  Then the nightmare stopped and I was left in darkness. I woke up panting.  I ran over to the window and puked.  I have never seen so much blood in my life.  Was that a prediction? When will this happen?  Why this village?  More and more questions filled my head, but what I want are answers.  Dawn nearly broke as I went to the beach. There was no sign of the siren anywhere.  I screamed at the water in frustration.  I even started kicking and throwing huge rocks.  I mean how long am I going to have these stupid dreams?  And why is everything going to hell when the trial just finished? I thought everything was going to get better after it was over. When I was out of breath from screaming and throwing rocks.  Soon enough a shadow loomed over me and the siren had finally arrived. The scarlet eyes were filled with fiery anger along with an icy glare.  Funny how it’s angry at me while I am the one who is angry.  “Why do I keep having these dreams?  Are they visions of the future?” The siren only stared at me. What am I thinking? I’m talking to a siren and feel like I’m about to go insane.  “Right, as if you would be able to understand me.” “Of course, I can understand you, i***t!” said the siren.  “Now will you stop your little tantrum, before you wake the entire village?” Wake the entire village, my ass.  I screamed for the whole day on this beach and no one came to help me until sunset.  I stood there with my mouth wide open.  I am actually talking to a siren.  A creature that can crush any boat with one squeeze of its body.  The voice that came out sounded a lot like a teenage boy.  “How long have you been able to talk?” I asked. “Um, forever?” said the siren in a tone that would make me sound stupid. “How is it that I don’t know about this?” “Maybe because you hardly pay attention to creatures like me?” “What the hell is that supposed to mean? And I thought it would be the other way around, since superior creatures like you don’t associate with us.” “Humans,” it scoffed,” You think you know everything.” I scoffed back. “You still haven’t answered my question.” The siren ignored me and continued with what he was saying. “You humans hardly pay attention to people, or things, who are of lower status than you.” “It’s not that we don’t pay attention to you, it’s more like, you’re too boring to learn about.  Plus you hardly come this close to the island.” “Unbelievable,” said the siren,” You’re the ones who are too boring to learn about, much less, pay attention to.” I rolled my eyes at the comment. ”So are you going to answer my question or not?” Hoping that he  wouldn’t ignore my question this time. “You keep having those dreams because I sent them to you as a warning.  My pod saw a huge ship made of iron coming this way.  Those ships are somehow able to withstand the storms outside the fog, and we can’t crush them. I’m the last of my pod that tried to stop them, but we were able to put a lot of damage on the ship without crushing it.” “By the gods,” I said. “But the village, are they really going to destroy it?” “I don’t know, I haven’t seen them since they killed my pod with those hideous weapons. They may already be here.” He said with a growl.  Anger almost taking over. “I guess we have plenty of time to evacuate, don’t we?” I said with a sigh of relief. “For now, but tomorrow is the trial festival.  They will be announcing the results of your trial and you will become full-fledged members of the village.” “I guess so,” I said with a little uncertainty.  I don’t even know if I will even become a member of this village since I got angry at our chief and basically put his home in an ice cube.  I am pretty sure he will be afraid of me tomorrow, and look at me like I am some threat to the village. “Whatever you do, don’t let that stone out of your sight.  You and I are connected through it.  If it ends up in the wrong hands, it would definitely bring a lot of trouble.” I nodded. I looked at the horizon and finally realized that the sun was almost up.  “I should head back.  I don’t want my parents to worry again and give me another round of lectures and punishment.”  He nodded in agreement, and before I could ask one more question, he glides back under without a ripple or bubble in sight.
