Chapter 11

1383 Words
I didn’t know what to do.  A guy has never asked me for dance before, probably because I’ve never stayed long enough for them to ask me.  I looked up into his midnight eyes, and I felt so captivated.  Without even thinking about it, I reached my hand out for his, and he took it.  He led me to the dance floor, not in the center of it of course, he swung me around so I could face him.  And naturally, my hand was on his shoulder while the other was still in his hand.  His hand went to my waist.  He started swaying both of us to the beat of the music.  Oh my gosh, he is a natural, but how is that possible no one on this island is a good dancer. As we swayed to the music, I kept my eyes fixated on him.  My legs were very stiff, I couldn’t even bend my knees.  He smirked and leaned close to my ear,” Relax.  I won’t bite.” Immediately, I relaxed with his soothing, silky voice.  The song feels like it went on forever, but I didn’t mind.  It just feels natural to be in his arms like this.  I wanted to carry a conversation since the music was soft enough to hear each other, but I didn’t know where to start.  I guess I’ll start with the obvious question,” Are you and your friends from this island?” He immediately tensed up. “I’m sorry, it’s just I know every boy on this island, except for you and your friends,” I asked, trying to help him relax. “I think you know the answer to that question, Kresla,” he said in a soft voice. “Okay, then. Where are you really from?” I looked at him with a suspicious look. “I can’t tell you that,” he said, and as if he could read my thoughts,” And I can’t tell you why we’re here, either.” I can’t believe it, an outsider, on our island hiding in plain sight.  How were they able to get past the sirens?  Then I remember what my siren friend said.  “So, I can’t really ask you questions, huh?” He silently nodded.  “My turn.  Where are we exactly?  This island isn’t on any of our maps.” I can’t get answers from him, but he expects to get answers from me? Unbelievable! I think I had a look on my face that expressed what I was thinking,” I don’t expect you to answer my questions, but we really want to get out of here and want to get back home.” “How can I trust you? I don’t even know you,” I disgustingly say, and his eyes became filled with hurt.  I feel bad for them, I really do, but the dream I had has me shaken with outsiders. “Please, if you tell me, I promise that no harm will come to you or your friends.” His eyes pleaded. “You’re on an island called Siren Scale.  We used to be a part of the Main Kingdom, but after the war, our ancestors moved this island, and created a mirage that erased our existence from the world and to keep us safe from the corruption of the Main Kingdom.” His eyes went wide with shock.  When he opened his mouth to ask another question, the music began to get soft.  As the song started to die down, I could feel people staring at us.  I took my hand off of his shoulder, but when I tried to take my hand out of his, his hand got tighter. I look at him incredulously, desperately trying to make him let go, but he wouldn’t.  As we left the dance floor to join our friends, I saw Liera and Jet staring at us with wide eyes.  I could feel my face getting heated. And it’s not from embarrassment or because I was in the center of attention.  People are noticing something off about Alaric and they think I’m trying to associate with someone I don’t know.  I coughed a little, trying to hint Alaric about our hands, but he just won’t. Let. Go! I look over at Eiress and Sirene, and they are giving me double thumbs up, while the boys had this huge smirk on their faces. We immediately separated our hands, but when we did my hand and body felt very cold. Before I could ask Alaric a question,“ Well, it was nice to meet you guys, but we should be going back now,” said Sirene hurriedly. “See you guys around,” said Eiress. I just waved at them, and quickly followed them back to the festival.  When we reached the food table, they crowded me and brought me to the other side of the food table.  “So what did you think of those guys?” asked Eiress. “I thought they were really nice.” I saud with boredom.   “What about Alaric?” cooed Sirene. I ignored her question. “They didn’t show off their muscles or tattoos like the other boys. Basically, they are different from all the boys here.” Because they’re from the outside world. “Yeah, no kidding,” said Sirene,” they are a lot more gentleman-like than all the boys, even Jet.” I looked at her and even exchanged glances with Eiress.  Her expression agrees with Sirene.  “Since when were you guys over him?” I ask, confused. “Well, after you left to talk with Chief Sander, Liera came over and actually started to make out with him in front of everyone. And everyone actually thought it was cute and everything.  The adults especially.” “Um, ew,” I said, all grossed out.  “In that dress of hers? How does anyone find that cute?” I said that a lot louder than I wanted to, but no one didn’t care, since the music cancelled out my comment.  My friends tapped my shoulder and I saw my parents approach me.  And Chief Sander right behind them.  They began to tell me that the Chief wanted me to give the stone or I will be banished from the island.  I looked at the Chief and his little entourage and they looked like they were ready to take the stone by force. The music stopped and now everyone’s eyes were on us.  I looked at the Chief with a huge disappointed look.  “You just had to go and make this public, didn’t you?” I asked. My friends put my parents behind us.  Liera and Jet were also a part of his entourage.  “You should have just handed it over when he asked the first time,” said Liera with a cocky voice. “Spoiled brat,” I spat.  “Exactly why do you want the siren stone so badly?” “Because you don’t understand how to use its power and Liera is more than capable of handling it,” said Chief Xander. The air began to freeze all around us and I felt the moon’s power shine on me. The air crystallized into ice shards and they pointed right at them.  Liera, Chief Xander, and their bodyguards were frightened.  I looked at them with a cold look.  “I feel like I am getting the hang of this,” I said with a voice I didn’t recognize.  The shards grew bigger and sharper by the second.  I looked at them and they were truly frightened.  They actually started backing up but I followed them.  With each step I took, I felt my power grow tremendously and the shards were so long, I could stab their fragile bodies with just a snap of my fingers. I heard Eiress and Sirene call my name and I turned around.  My parents and friends had the look of true terror in their eyes.  I started to calm down a bit and the shards shrank until they were gone.  The marks slowly dimmed, and I saw the crowd was sitting on the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next.  I felt like I was going to throw up. The bodyguards wrestled me to the ground and searched me for the stone.  They gave the Chief a look of confusion.  Chief Xander’s face turned red and ordered the guards to search everywhere for it after the festival was over.  The crowd whispered in the background and exchanged confused glances.  When the guards got off me, my friends helped me up.  My dress was all dirty and my hair was disarrayed.  The Chief began to calm the crowd, I couldn’t make out the words and I felt unconsciousness take over.
